Hot In The Hive: Meringue Rings

imageI have to admit that while I work in the notoriously food phobic fashion industry, I love all aspects of food. If you’re ever a fly on the wall of the Stylehive office, you can hear most of us gab about the latest cheap eats or restaurants we’ve been to. So of course, I’ve got to have some fashion accessories that look like food like my Ritz Cracker earrings and gum drop necklace. My fingers have been feeling lonely from the lack of food related goodies, but today’s the day! I found these super charming Meringue Rings that look good enough to eat. These realistic treats may look like they’re made of sugar and egg whites, but it’s actually silicone. They come in three sizes and inexpensive enough to buy as stocking stuffers for all your food loving fashionista friends. Just don’t be tempted to nibble on them!

Price: $22
Who Found It: facadeindreams was first to add the Meringue Rings to the Hive.

Beauty.Com Partners With Zero + Cornejo Maria On An Exclusive Travel Case

This time around, they collaborated with the award-winning fashion label Zero + Maria Cornejo in creating a super chic travel bag stuffed with 16 deluxe hair, makeup, and skincare samples. The travel bag trio features zippered compartments in three shapes that can be carried individually or as a set. “This bag is based on the three shapes that always inspire the collection — a circle, a square, and a triangle,” says Cornejo. “When I was designing the bag, I was thinking of busy women like myself who, when they travel, need maximum flexibility. Nelly Furtado Explores Her Fashion Mishaps On MTV’s “What Were U Thinking?”

imageWe all have a few outfits we’ve worn in the past that, when confronted with the pictures, makes us want to burn every piece that went into the outfit along with all the photos in a big evidence-ridding bonfire. Who hasn’t scrolled through photos of themselves on Facebook and with a quick click of the “remove tag” button thought, “What was I thinking?!” Luckily for us non-famous folk, our fashion mishaps and momentary lapses of judgment aren’t printed on every newsstand tabloid, paraded on national television, or discussed in Twitter trending topics. On MTV’s web series, “What Were U Thinking?” famous fashionistas like Kim Kardashian and Kristin Cavallari get a chance to defend their style choices, give praise to designers, make fun of their own faux pas, and provide us insight into some of their biggest “WWUT?” moments (for example, was Nelly’s “I’m Like a Bird” get-up for real?!). Click “See Video” to watch the show’s most recent guest, Nelly Furtado, dish on her favorite funky wardrobe highs and lows, then click over to the show’s official site to see past guests’ episodes and the show’s October 12th finale with “Twilight’s” Ashley Greene.

Start The New Year By Spoiling Yourself At The Royal Hawaiian Resort!

imageHow do you say luxury in Hawaiian? Mae e ho’ohiwahiwa ai ka noho ‘na. But while that may be a mouthful, finding a Hawaiian example of luxury is simple — just look to The Royal Hawaiian Resort. Located on Waikiki Beach, Starwood’s 529-room “Pink Palace of the Pacific” takes its cues from its luscious natural surroundings, as well as the history and culture of the island. Marvel at the property’s 1920s Moorish architecture, lounge in a beachfront cabana, sip a tropical cocktail at its oceanside Mai Tai Bar, or try an alfresco massage in the garden, courtesy of the on-site Abhasa Spa. And don’t miss ‘Ah ‘Aina, the Royal Hawaiian’s weekly dinner and show featuring local cuisine along with dancers and musicians telling the story of Waikiki. Aloha, indeed! Click “See Video” for a virtual tour, then check out what else the islands have to offer at Modern Luxury!

Recession Chic: 10 Must-Have Messenger Bags Under $75!

imageIf your lengthy list of resolutions has so far only amounted to a big 2010 FAIL, it may not be entirely your fault. Sometimes when you get too ambitious with your start-of-the-year goals, your plans can contradict each other. For example, it’s hard to spend more quality time with your family while still leaving sufficient time for the gym. And it’s nearly impossible to be stylish, stay organized, and keep yourself on a budget all at the same time. Or is it? I’m here to let you know that you can confidently throw that beat-up old backpack in the trash — there are more fashionable alternatives for staying neat and organized on the go for work or school. Keep your laptop safe and close at hand with a messenger bag from Target (only $24.99!), or if you’d prefer something a little more versatile, this messenger backpack from Urban Outfitters can be used for anything from school to a celebratory post-work happy hour (yes, you can still go out on a budget too!). Channel Your Inner Monster This Halloween With “Where The Wild Things Are”

imageFor a book with only 9 sentences, Where the Wild Things Are sure is making a splash in the fashion world and beyond. Published in 1963, the book has been read by generations and now we get to enjoy a live action feature length movie directed by Spike Jonze this week. Needless to say, the book and movie provides some great inspiration for a Halloween costume. Between the furry monster suit Max wears and the other frightening (yet cute) monsters, it’s easy to channel your inner “wild thing.” Even my favorite boutique Opening Ceremony created a capsule collection based on the characters of the movie. But chances are you’ve already got a fur vest or even some furry boots, so a costume fit for any wild monster is already lurking in your closet! Just add a fur skirt or find some faux fur at a craft store, add a homemade gold crown, and you’re ready to go. Take a look at my slideshow that will have you ready for a “wild rumpus” this Halloween!

Rock A Casual-Chic Safari Style Like Sophia Bush

imageTo celebrate the OPen Campus Launch Party in LA, “One Tree Hill” star Sophia Bush rocked a casual-chic summer style. Sophia paired a variety of neutral-hued items together including a lightweight brown cardigan, plaid white tank, army green short, and tan criss-cross strap Miu Miu platform sandals. She gave this safari-inspired style an updated twist with a standout multi-chain necklace and sleek metallic clutch. Neutrals have been one of the strongest summer trends and will continue to dominate well into the fall. Sophia’s look was fuss-free, wearable, and casual but still incredibly chic and can easily transition from day to night. Check out my SLIDESHOW to get the look!

Back-To-School Beauty: 10 Products To Keep In Your Locker

imageYup, it’s that time of year again. The dreaded first day of school is fast approaching. And what better way to soften the blow of having to kiss your summer freedom goodbye than makeup shopping? After all, three-ring binders and dorm room decor aren’t the only things you need to stock up on when it comes to preparing to hit the books again. In order to really be ready for the semester ahead (and treat yourself in the process), you ought to look at some portable locker loot that you can keep on-hand for mid-day makeup emergencies and touch-ups during passing periods. For example, imagine how much sweeter the day would be if you could stop by your locker for a quick spritz of your favorite fragrance or a swipe of blush to add some color to your just-saw-your-test-grade ghostly complexion! Even if you’re way past your locker days, check out the slideshow for some handy to-go products you can keep in your schoolbag, desk, or car for the long and studious days ahead!

Shoe Of The Week: Elizabeth & James ‘Alisha’ Thong Ballet Flats

imageBack in college, I remember slipping on my trusty Rainbows to go to class (or any time I left my dorm room, for that matter) — rain or shine. Of course, in Los Angeles, it’s almost always weather-appropriate for sandals… but looking back I probably could have taken the extra 5 seconds to rummage in my closet for a nice pair of flats when the outing called for slightly fancier footwear. I think it’s that “slip ’em on and bounce” mentality of mine that has me drawn to these thong ballet flats by Elizabeth & James. A flip-flop/flat hybrid, this pair still has the warm-weather friendliness of sandals, while the metallic leather gives them a versatile yet slightly dressier feel for the times when your go-to flip-flops won’t do.
