Stylehive’s Stylescopes Show That Accessorizing Is A Cinch!

imageIt’s no news that nowadays belts are more about fashion than function. Gone are the days that belts should only be discreet and embellishment-free for maximum waistband-cinching without the buckle bulges. Now they’re all about accessorizing, bedazzling, shaping looser ensembles, or even adding pops of color to otherwise drab monochrome outfits. So with all the stylish choices in the realm of belts, how does a girl choose? Look no further than Stylehive’s Stylescopes to see what kind of waist-hugger is written in your fashion future! Geminis can ditch the chunky jewelry and dress up an LBD with a hammered gold belt for some flash, and the Virgo gals can hop on the chain trend and toughen up a girly dress with this multi-strand silver belt. Take a look at the slideshow to see what kind of belt will make your sign’s next outfit!

Katy Perry Interviews Karl Lagerfeld At Paris Fashion Week

imageQuirky songstress Katy Perry chats with Karl Lagerfeld after his show at Paris Fashion Week in an exclusive interview for Elle.com. It’s certainly a rare chance to peek into the personality of one of the world’s most esteemed designers. Is he intimidating? Yes, but there is a certain warmth about his demeanor, even as he corrects Katy when she expresses her adoration for the fabric, not metal embellishment on a particular dress. The two discuss music and fashion, and we learn fun facts like what he listened to as he got dressed this morning and what song he feels describes himself best (by none other than Lily Allen, of course). His response to the requisite “if you could trade places with any designer” question is a careful mix of smug satisfaction and pure respect. Oh, and he makes jokes too! Recession Chic: Statement Jewelry Under $50

imageIt’s all about making a personal statement through jewelry these days. Chunky bracelets, multi-layered necklaces and huge earrings help add character and individual style to sleek outfits, but many times, these gorgeous works of wearable art cost more than we’re willing to shell out. The great thing about statement jewelry is that it’s eye-catching and highly memorable, but the downside is also how memorable it can be. Sure, you could wear your statement piece every day, and you’d certainly get your money’s worth, but people would probably begin to notice and you might get bored of the piece yourself! Check out the slideshow for our favorite standout pieces and scoop up a few to add to your outfits- at under $50 each, you can shift your thinking to style statements, not bank statements!

Start The New Year By Spoiling Yourself At The Royal Hawaiian Resort!

imageHow do you say luxury in Hawaiian? Mae e ho’ohiwahiwa ai ka noho ‘na. But while that may be a mouthful, finding a Hawaiian example of luxury is simple — just look to The Royal Hawaiian Resort. Located on Waikiki Beach, Starwood’s 529-room “Pink Palace of the Pacific” takes its cues from its luscious natural surroundings, as well as the history and culture of the island. Marvel at the property’s 1920s Moorish architecture, lounge in a beachfront cabana, sip a tropical cocktail at its oceanside Mai Tai Bar, or try an alfresco massage in the garden, courtesy of the on-site Abhasa Spa. And don’t miss ‘Ah ‘Aina, the Royal Hawaiian’s weekly dinner and show featuring local cuisine along with dancers and musicians telling the story of Waikiki. Aloha, indeed! Camilla Belle Wears Alexander McQueen Spring 2010

imageAt the debut of the futuristic dystopian flick “2012,” Camilla Belle bravely donned an Alexander McQueen creation from his Spring 2010 collection, which premiered in Paris a few weeks ago. The entire Alexander McQueen collection featured a futuristic look and reptilian themed prints. Belle’s dress was a short dress with a puff-ball skirt and gem trim on the sleeves. She wisely accessorized this attention-grabber of a dress with a minimal theme in mind. A simple bangle, plain earrings, and nude platform heels ensured that accessories would not compete with the dress. It would be easy to overdo it with chains or diamonds or “look-at-me” shoes. Also in attendance at the movie premiere was American Idol season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert. The soundtrack to the movie features his song “Time for Miracles.” Critics describe the song as “perfect” for the movie in which the world faces a huge cataclysmic event and those left have to fight for survival. Written by Roland Emmerich and Harald Kloser, the movie’s cast includes John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Thandie Newton. Woody Harrelson and Danny Glover are also included in the cast of thousands. The film premiered November 4 in Los Angeles. This week it is scheduled for release in Belgium, France, and the UK. Rock Sexy Stripes Like Leighton Meester

imageAt the Teen Choice Awards, Leighton Meester rocked a fashion-forward look that was both sweet and sexy. The “Gossip Girl” star wore a funky striped dress from Louis Vuitton, which was accented with ruffle details adding a flirty sensibility. She gave the look a sexy kick with red Brian Atwood pumps and an edgy black cuff by Cathy Waterman and rounded out the mix with a dainty pair of earrings. Stripes are super hot right now and can work for anyone, no matter your style. When wearing graphic prints, it’s usually best to keep everything else relatively simple to avoid sensory overload. You can pair a striped frock with a few standout pieces like Leighton, go bold with piles of accessories, or keep it simple and team it with basic pumps. Shoe Of The Week: Elizabeth & James ‘Alisha’ Thong Ballet Flats

imageBack in college, I remember slipping on my trusty Rainbows to go to class (or any time I left my dorm room, for that matter) — rain or shine. Of course, in Los Angeles, it’s almost always weather-appropriate for sandals… but looking back I probably could have taken the extra 5 seconds to rummage in my closet for a nice pair of flats when the outing called for slightly fancier footwear. I think it’s that “slip ’em on and bounce” mentality of mine that has me drawn to these thong ballet flats by Elizabeth & James. A flip-flop/flat hybrid, this pair still has the warm-weather friendliness of sandals, while the metallic leather gives them a versatile yet slightly dressier feel for the times when your go-to flip-flops won’t do.

What: Elizabeth & James Alisha Thong Ballet Flats
Price: $198

Hot In The Hive: Light Pillow

imageFinally — the bookworm’s comfy, camouflaged alternative to the book light! This light-up pillow, designed by Linas Kutavicius, can be placed on the floor, on the bed, or even hung up as a unique wall lamp or chandelier! While I’m sure its inner metal frame keeps it from being quite as squishy and cuddly as the rest of your bed linens, its washable cover keeps the lamp soft and safe while you cozy up in your bedroom. Get your own at Generate Design. Just don’t get any crazy ideas about a glow-in-the-dark pillow fight; I’m not certain the fixture is quite that multifunctional…
