Budget Babe Sneak Peek: The Macy’s Spring Lookbook!

imageThe Macy’s Spring 2010 Lookbook is out, showcasing some of top trends we can expect to see in their ready-to-wear collection. Sequins are back, as are oversized pieces paired with skinny elements. Stripes, florals and what they’re calling Afrique-Chic prints all make appearances on tops, skirts and dresses. I’m loving Rachel Roy’s khaki coat paired with a bright blue top as well as that delicious embellished abstract-floral dress from DKNY. The return of canary yellow is also a welcome sign that spring is in the air (somewhere). I’m also impressed by the sophisticated styling, looks more Neiman Marcus than Macy’s to me! But of course, with Macy’s comes the affordable pricing we prefer. What say you? Make sure to click over to The Budget Babe for more spring looks for less!

Precious Cargo: The Pocketed Pants Are Slim And Sexy For Spring

imageCargo pants were great back in high school when you needed a place to stash candy wrappers and lunch money, and then just like that, they were nowhere to be found, except maybe in the men’s section at American Eagle. Not that there’s anything wrong with that (we love you AE!), but as we became more style-conscious, cargo pants only became more unflattering. Until now! J.Crew, Sanctuary, and Juicy Couture have given the pocketed pants a slim new look that’s just begging to be paired with feminine tops and strappy sandals. Cropped or full-length, they’re a casual, urban alternative to boyfriend jeans or your usual weekend fare. Look for pairs with ripstop details and of course, take into account pocket placement- no one needs extra baggage. Victoria’s Secret skinny cargo pant in stretch twill is affordable, and totally sexy too. Cargo pants… who knew? See the slideshow for our favorites!

Look For Less: Chanel Spring 2010 Clogs

imageThe last time I even thought about clogs, I was 8 years old and only thought they were cool because they were Dutch and made clacking sounds when I walked, meaning they sounded like the high heels I wasn’t yet allowed to wear (which obviously made them even cooler). Fast forward to now, where Chanel‘s reinterpretation of the classic shoe has catapulted it into chic must-have territory thanks to pearly white leather, round studs, and of course, a platform heel. But seeing as a four-figure price tag is too much for what is really a case of sartorial nostalgia exacerbated by a chronic addiction to platforms, I set out to find a suitable doppelganger. Jeffrey Campbell’s “Charli” clogs ($178) are pretty close and even feature a convertible buckle strap so you can wear them as slingbacks. I can see them paired with floaty lace dresses and light wash denim jackets… how would you wear them?

Impure T-Shirts

impure-obama.jpg impure-einstein.jpg

In just a few short years, the small t-shirt brand Impure has become immensely popular among Italians and collectors alike. The graphic concepts revolve around living and imaginary icons, but the treatment of them speaks to the belief that no cultural phenomenon is pure anymore—an idea clearly underlined by the slogan, “pure clothes for impure people”.

Impure (also to be intended as “I’m pure”) finds motivation in everyday heroes who mirror change and embody the most authentic challenge to contemporary culture.

Indicated by their website (by the Rome-based agency Xister) and shirt design, Impure embraces paradoxes and subtle controversies. As a result, their tees generate surreal and memorable images, such as Obama as the best DJ, Gandhi as a fighter, or Einstein as sex symbol.

The complete collection today includes fleeces, hoodies, button-downs and denim. The label is also certified environmentally friendly through Impatto Zero, meaning that it compensates what it pollutes through the seeding and care of trees in Costa Rica’. Both men and women’s tees sell online starting at €49.

Pro-Keds Spring 2010 Video

Promoting their Spring line,

Pro-Keds recently debuted a short video telling the story of a shoe-based mission. With settings that will look familiar to NYC residents and a Bond-esque soundtrack, the playfully inventive piece follows a cast of characters who at various points throw shoes over a fence, trade them, pluck pairs from lamp posts, and steal them from sleeping subway riders. The madcap upshot, with its saturated colors highlighting the rich hues of the kicks, is one of the more fun examples of branded content we’ve come across lately.

Shred Optics

While many try to imitate the exemplary ski style of Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety, his panache off the slopes is also noteworthy and even more easily attainable. Shred Optics—Ligety’s line of sunglasses, goggles and helmets—are engineered for seriously pushing the limits and fashioned to reflect a buoyant sense of humor.

Inspired and designed entirely by athletes, the whole collection is great for hitting the slopes—but when Ligety stopped by Cool Hunting a few months ago we fell for the classic shape of his Akroid frames. The aptly titled series of sunglasses are made with the highest quality Italian plastic and scratch resistant lenses.

Known for shredding in pink goggles, Ligety is as freespirited as he is committed to his sport and his line of optics perfectly illustrates that. The Akroid sunglasses offer 100% UVA/UVB/UVC protection in four spirited colorways. They can be found at stores worldwide for $159.

For his fifth collection of menswear, rising fashion designer Richard Chai paired his deconstructed classic looks with Timberland‘s similarly futuristic take on traditional boots earlier today in a runway presentation.

The move comes a few seasons into Timberland’s bid for a corner of the fashion market with the “Boot Company” line touting their heritage, using higher-end materials and construction techniques, and recently collaborating with Opening Ceremony on a collection.

Chai, a former Marc Jacobs design director and 2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award finalist, chose Timberland’s Wodehouse Cap Toe Oxford and Tackhead Winter 8” Boot as well as the Colrain Reissue 8” Boot, mixing high and low cuts to match the layered ensembles.

Laura Lobdell Jewelry

For Valentine’s Day jewelery designer Laura Lobdell, known for casting found objects like champagne corks and matchsticks in silver, created four new pieces, which each come accompanied by hand-painted cards.

A more gritty version of Margiela’s hospital bracelet, the Four Letter Love Cuff says “I found you and you have made a big impression on me!” An immortalized cigarette butt reads “You are the one, no ifs ands or butts about it.” Another favorite, the candy heart with a bite taken out of it, becomes a sweetly abstract charm.

Video Style Steal: Taylor Swift’s “Our Song” Is A Cute V-Day Throwback!

imageTaylor Swift may be the current reigning Queen of the Grammys, but since I’ve been in the nostalgic mood, I have to say I miss the old Taylor. Of course, by “old” I mean only a couple years ago, but a small passage of time can do wonders in turning a guitar-strumming Nashville gal into a multi-platinum superstar. Back in her “Our Song” days, she was still the gorgeous yet endearingly humble Cinderella next-door, but had a little more of that hopeless romantic flair that I guess you start to lose after a Jonas brother dumps you over the phone. In one of her first videos ever, she Taylor-izes the classic Audrey Hepburn-style LBD with cowgirl boots and fingerless gloves, creating a look that’s both down-to-earth and date-ready at the same time (Valentine’s Day, anyone?). Watch the video for a little “retro” Swifty, then look through the slideshow to see how you can cop her cowgirl-gone-glam look! Photo Credit: Vh1.com
