Embrace the ’90s With A Drawstring Bag!

imageEver since Alexander Wang came out with his handbag line, the too-cool totes have been seen on celebs from Mary-Kate Olsen to Kristin Cavallari, blogged about to death, and coveted by yours truly. One of my favorites was the ‘Diego’ bag– a drawstring bucket bag that would have been perfect with any outfit! Alas, it’s been long sold out everywhere so I’ve been on the hunt ever since. Drawstring bags always remind me of the purses my mother had in the 90s, so while their modern cousins have retro roots, they’re totally current and fashion-forward. Drawstring closures are handy when you need to pack a whole day’s worth of stuff without jamming a zipper. Best of all, they come in all different styles from totes to hobo bags! I’ve been eyeing the Classic Parina Bag by Gustto in bright yellow. Urban Outfitters offers an affordable alternative to the famed Alexander Wang bag with the Deux Lux Drawstring Bucket Bag. And who could forget the amazing Fred Leighton bib necklace Amy Adams wore at the 2009 Academy Awards! Bib necklaces can be found in all shapes and sizes so it’s easy to find one that can match your mood or personality. While I’ve found some in the $800 range at Saks, there are plenty of under $100 options that make this trend totally accessible. The Stellae Necklace is a subtle and bling-less take on the bib necklace, or you can go all out with the Jet/Crystal Bib Necklace. Wear your bib necklace when it’s just a jeans and t-shirt day for a touch of glamour or with a strapless gown for maximum impact. Nelly Furtado Explores Her Fashion Mishaps On MTV’s “What Were U Thinking?”

imageWe all have a few outfits we’ve worn in the past that, when confronted with the pictures, makes us want to burn every piece that went into the outfit along with all the photos in a big evidence-ridding bonfire. Who hasn’t scrolled through photos of themselves on Facebook and with a quick click of the “remove tag” button thought, “What was I thinking?!” Luckily for us non-famous folk, our fashion mishaps and momentary lapses of judgment aren’t printed on every newsstand tabloid, paraded on national television, or discussed in Twitter trending topics. On MTV’s web series, “What Were U Thinking?” famous fashionistas like Kim Kardashian and Kristin Cavallari get a chance to defend their style choices, give praise to designers, make fun of their own faux pas, and provide us insight into some of their biggest “WWUT?” moments (for example, was Nelly’s “I’m Like a Bird” get-up for real?!). Gotta Getaway On A Budget? Stay In Style At The Ace Hotel In Palm Springs!

The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, California would be something like what you’d get. Known throughout the Pacific Northwest, The Ace is renowned for their stylish yet budget friendly boutique hotels in Portland and Seattle so when they decided to revamp an old hotel in Palm Springs, I was intrigued. Palm Springs always reminds me of retirement communities and golf courses, but the Ace Hotel definitely dispels all those preconceived notions. The interior walls are covered in a tent canvas for the illusion that you’re camping somewhere far far away (but with hot water showers!). The theme extends to the rest of the room with antique steamer trunks that store extra pillows and plenty of vintage National Geographic magazines that can help you plan your next getaway. Dine at the King’s Highway, formerly a Denny’s, where they serve roadside diner food with local and organic ingredients. Lastly, relax at their spa, by the pool, the stargazing deck or on your private patio. With rates starting at under $150 per night, it’s easy to get away from it all. Spaced Out: 10 Finds Inspired By The Moon, Stars, And Beyond

imageThere’s water on the moon! Or, well… there’s molecular evidence of its presence. Which doesn’t sound nearly as exciting as “water on the moon,” but still somehow caused me to launch (ha) into a frenzied search for things trendy, wearable, and above all, covered in rockets. And stars. And planets! Interestingly enough, there were plenty of pieces to suit my craving. Tsumori Chisato’s bespeckled tights in cream are so whimsical with their teensy rockets and astronauts, I want to gaze at them all night (instead of staring out of my window). Leifsdottir’s silk sky print skirt is adorned with planets and a single ruffle, and would be so perfect with tights and a wool jacket. And the ‘Stellae’ necklace from Anthropologie satisfies my need for both a statement piece and something out of this world. Not so sure about wearing a galactic getup?
