Stylehive’s Stylescopes Show That Accessorizing Is A Cinch!

imageIt’s no news that nowadays belts are more about fashion than function. Gone are the days that belts should only be discreet and embellishment-free for maximum waistband-cinching without the buckle bulges. Now they’re all about accessorizing, bedazzling, shaping looser ensembles, or even adding pops of color to otherwise drab monochrome outfits. So with all the stylish choices in the realm of belts, how does a girl choose? Look no further than Stylehive’s Stylescopes to see what kind of waist-hugger is written in your fashion future! Geminis can ditch the chunky jewelry and dress up an LBD with a hammered gold belt for some flash, and the Virgo gals can hop on the chain trend and toughen up a girly dress with this multi-strand silver belt. Take a look at the slideshow to see what kind of belt will make your sign’s next outfit!

Embrace the ’90s With A Drawstring Bag!

imageEver since Alexander Wang came out with his handbag line, the too-cool totes have been seen on celebs from Mary-Kate Olsen to Kristin Cavallari, blogged about to death, and coveted by yours truly. One of my favorites was the ‘Diego’ bag– a drawstring bucket bag that would have been perfect with any outfit! Alas, it’s been long sold out everywhere so I’ve been on the hunt ever since. Drawstring bags always remind me of the purses my mother had in the 90s, so while their modern cousins have retro roots, they’re totally current and fashion-forward. Drawstring closures are handy when you need to pack a whole day’s worth of stuff without jamming a zipper. Best of all, they come in all different styles from totes to hobo bags! I’ve been eyeing the Classic Parina Bag by Gustto in bright yellow. Urban Outfitters offers an affordable alternative to the famed Alexander Wang bag with the Deux Lux Drawstring Bucket Bag. Check out my slideshow for more drawstring bags!

Work It Out In AW77, The Greatest Sport Hoodie From Nike

imageYou work hard- so should your clothes. The Nike AW77 hoodie, named for Athletics West (Nike’s elite track and field club that year) is Nike’s hardest working hoodie yet. Crafted from water-resistant French looped cotton, it’s supremely comfortable and durable. The head cushioning, fully lined multi-paneled scuba hood zips up to your chin to block out the elements. Day after day, wear after wear, the ribbed cuffs and waistband hold their shape, and the body and hood will keep their form– they’re designed by athletes, for athletes, after all. Not one detail has been spared, from the windproof zippers to the top-shelf pockets and drawcords. It’s quilted with insulation for warmth where you need it, and not where you don’t. The interior of the hoodie is clean, with no exposed edges, so it’s all about comfort. Meet your new favorite hoodie at Nike, and show it what you’re made of.

Bib Necklaces: Definitely Not Child’s Play

imageBib necklaces have been around for many seasons now, but it seemed like the Fall 2009 runways like Marni, Marc Jacobs, and Dior were filled with these eye catching necklaces. And who could forget the amazing Fred Leighton bib necklace Amy Adams wore at the 2009 Academy Awards! Bib necklaces can be found in all shapes and sizes so it’s easy to find one that can match your mood or personality. While I’ve found some in the $800 range at Saks, there are plenty of under $100 options that make this trend totally accessible. The Stellae Necklace is a subtle and bling-less take on the bib necklace, or you can go all out with the Jet/Crystal Bib Necklace. Wear your bib necklace when it’s just a jeans and t-shirt day for a touch of glamour or with a strapless gown for maximum impact. Take a look at my slideshow for more showstopping bib necklaces, and remember, these won’t help when you’re enjoying your lobster!

Flirt Shamelessly This Season With Fall’s Spiky Lashes

imageI’ve always been a serious eyeliner girl, collecting everything from smoky kohl pencils in every color to budge-proof creme liner pots to liquid glitter liner. But my most recent beauty obsession? Spiky lashes — either blacked-out versions of your natural lashes, or a little added help from a handy set of falsies like Kim Kardashian’s. Unlike thick, showgirl-esque, llama-looking lashes that focus on heavy volume, fall’s take on the lash trend gives you dramatic length without verging on unnatural. In other words, you’ll have people commenting on how jealous they are of your flirty peepers instead of asking if you just walked off a Vegas stage. Take a look at the slideshow to browse some products that’ll help you get your lashes long and spiky! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Nelly Furtado Explores Her Fashion Mishaps On MTV’s “What Were U Thinking?”

imageWe all have a few outfits we’ve worn in the past that, when confronted with the pictures, makes us want to burn every piece that went into the outfit along with all the photos in a big evidence-ridding bonfire. Who hasn’t scrolled through photos of themselves on Facebook and with a quick click of the “remove tag” button thought, “What was I thinking?!” Luckily for us non-famous folk, our fashion mishaps and momentary lapses of judgment aren’t printed on every newsstand tabloid, paraded on national television, or discussed in Twitter trending topics. On MTV’s web series, “What Were U Thinking?” famous fashionistas like Kim Kardashian and Kristin Cavallari get a chance to defend their style choices, give praise to designers, make fun of their own faux pas, and provide us insight into some of their biggest “WWUT?” moments (for example, was Nelly’s “I’m Like a Bird” get-up for real?!). Click “See Video” to watch the show’s most recent guest, Nelly Furtado, dish on her favorite funky wardrobe highs and lows, then click over to the show’s official site to see past guests’ episodes and the show’s October 12th finale with “Twilight’s” Ashley Greene.

Gotta Getaway On A Budget? Stay In Style At The Ace Hotel In Palm Springs!

imageImagine if a group of artistically minded and communal living skateboarders renovated an old hotel and decided to make it the hippest place to stay. The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, California would be something like what you’d get. Known throughout the Pacific Northwest, The Ace is renowned for their stylish yet budget friendly boutique hotels in Portland and Seattle so when they decided to revamp an old hotel in Palm Springs, I was intrigued. Palm Springs always reminds me of retirement communities and golf courses, but the Ace Hotel definitely dispels all those preconceived notions. The interior walls are covered in a tent canvas for the illusion that you’re camping somewhere far far away (but with hot water showers!). The theme extends to the rest of the room with antique steamer trunks that store extra pillows and plenty of vintage National Geographic magazines that can help you plan your next getaway. Dine at the King’s Highway, formerly a Denny’s, where they serve roadside diner food with local and organic ingredients. Lastly, relax at their spa, by the pool, the stargazing deck or on your private patio. With rates starting at under $150 per night, it’s easy to get away from it all. Spaced Out: 10 Finds Inspired By The Moon, Stars, And Beyond

imageThere’s water on the moon! Or, well… there’s molecular evidence of its presence. Which doesn’t sound nearly as exciting as “water on the moon,” but still somehow caused me to launch (ha) into a frenzied search for things trendy, wearable, and above all, covered in rockets. And stars. And planets! Interestingly enough, there were plenty of pieces to suit my craving. Tsumori Chisato’s bespeckled tights in cream are so whimsical with their teensy rockets and astronauts, I want to gaze at them all night (instead of staring out of my window). Leifsdottir’s silk sky print skirt is adorned with planets and a single ruffle, and would be so perfect with tights and a wool jacket. And the ‘Stellae’ necklace from Anthropologie satisfies my need for both a statement piece and something out of this world. Not so sure about wearing a galactic getup? Swipe some of Too Faced’s Galaxy Glam eyeshadow (Super Nova is my favorite) on your eyelids and take your smoky eye routine from smudged to stellar. See more space-inspired picks in my slideshow!
