WhatsWear Finds Great Fall Leather Jackets For Less!

imageLeather jackets are one of the most important fall staples. They are universal, never go out of style and look great on both men and women. However, some leather jackets can run you upwards of $600! In this economy that is just way too much to spend on a jacket you can only wear in the spring and the fall. However, WhatsWear has come to the rescue and found adorable leather jackets for under $260! We scoured the web searching for cheap and chic jackets for both men and women. TopShop had the best selection of real leather and faux leather jackets. I love their fitted, cropped black jackets for women. These three jackets had more of a rock-n-roll feel, but if you are looking for something more ladylike, go no further than Forever 21’s 3/4 sleeve leather jacket in a beautiful cream. Our favorite picks for the boys included the navy bomber jacket (faux leather), the timeless black bomber jacket (all leather and machine washable!) and the super chic grey leather sweatshirt (all leather but dry clean only). Pair your desired leather jacket with just about anything from dresses to jeans to skirts and more! Head over to WhatsWear for more fall fashion that won’t cost you the whole season’s salary.

Channel Your Inner Monster This Halloween With “Where The Wild Things Are”

imageFor a book with only 9 sentences, Where the Wild Things Are sure is making a splash in the fashion world and beyond. Published in 1963, the book has been read by generations and now we get to enjoy a live action feature length movie directed by Spike Jonze this week. Needless to say, the book and movie provides some great inspiration for a Halloween costume. Between the furry monster suit Max wears and the other frightening (yet cute) monsters, it’s easy to channel your inner “wild thing.” Even my favorite boutique Opening Ceremony created a capsule collection based on the characters of the movie. But chances are you’ve already got a fur vest or even some furry boots, so a costume fit for any wild monster is already lurking in your closet! Just add a fur skirt or find some faux fur at a craft store, add a homemade gold crown, and you’re ready to go. Take a look at my slideshow that will have you ready for a “wild rumpus” this Halloween!

Recession Chic: Statement Jewelry Under $50

imageIt’s all about making a personal statement through jewelry these days. Chunky bracelets, multi-layered necklaces and huge earrings help add character and individual style to sleek outfits, but many times, these gorgeous works of wearable art cost more than we’re willing to shell out. The great thing about statement jewelry is that it’s eye-catching and highly memorable, but the downside is also how memorable it can be. Sure, you could wear your statement piece every day, and you’d certainly get your money’s worth, but people would probably begin to notice and you might get bored of the piece yourself! Check out the slideshow for our favorite standout pieces and scoop up a few to add to your outfits- at under $50 each, you can shift your thinking to style statements, not bank statements!

Cute To Boot: 10 Not Too Short, Not Too Tall Pairs!

imageWith our zillions of styles and outfits,we’ve really got to have a style of boot to pair with each: hot high heel ankle boots for mini dresses, calf boots for shorts and skirts, boots for skinny jeans, an over the knee pair for leggings and a long tee, and then cowboy boots just for the hell of it. If we’re practical about it (which I’m not– I need sweater boots to bring me from bed to breakfast) the one boot versatile enough to play whatever way we’d like is the short boot. It’s less likely to be choppy than the unforgiving cankle-flaunting ankle boot. Every boot’s different, so some may be difficult to categorize, but somewhere in between lies the short boot you’re looking for in absolutely every style imaginable. They’re hip, fun, fashionable and wardrobe workable and just a wishlist-add away from ending up under the tree on Christmas day. See my favorites in my slideshow!

Rock A Casual-Chic Safari Style Like Sophia Bush

imageTo celebrate the OPen Campus Launch Party in LA, “One Tree Hill” star Sophia Bush rocked a casual-chic summer style. Sophia paired a variety of neutral-hued items together including a lightweight brown cardigan, plaid white tank, army green short, and tan criss-cross strap Miu Miu platform sandals. She gave this safari-inspired style an updated twist with a standout multi-chain necklace and sleek metallic clutch. Neutrals have been one of the strongest summer trends and will continue to dominate well into the fall. Sophia’s look was fuss-free, wearable, and casual but still incredibly chic and can easily transition from day to night. Check out my SLIDESHOW to get the look!

Hot In The Hive: Meringue Rings

imageI have to admit that while I work in the notoriously food phobic fashion industry, I love all aspects of food. If you’re ever a fly on the wall of the Stylehive office, you can hear most of us gab about the latest cheap eats or restaurants we’ve been to. So of course, I’ve got to have some fashion accessories that look like food like my Ritz Cracker earrings and gum drop necklace. My fingers have been feeling lonely from the lack of food related goodies, but today’s the day! I found these super charming Meringue Rings that look good enough to eat. These realistic treats may look like they’re made of sugar and egg whites, but it’s actually silicone. They come in three sizes and inexpensive enough to buy as stocking stuffers for all your food loving fashionista friends. Just don’t be tempted to nibble on them!

Price: $22
Who Found It: facadeindreams was first to add the Meringue Rings to the Hive.

Cheap Thrills: Marc Jacobs “Special Items” That Are Worth The Trek To The Store!

imageAny devoted Marc Jacobs fan knows about the exclusive special items— those generally cheap, kitschy, and cute little trinkets that can be found at any Marc by Marc store (and on eBay, “MARC-ed” up of course). You can pretty much go in, scoop up a couple rhinestone rings, a tote, and a book, and walk out of the store having only spent $40. The best part of this entire scenario? You get the iconic Marc Jacobs carrier bag, so the rest of the world knows you shop at stores that garner a Yelp rating of $$$, which may lead them to believe you are a successful human being (or just connected to one). All kidding aside though, I love that the stores sell these items- it gives me a reason to wander through the racks, make a mental wishlist of everything I want but can’t have, and then drown my sorrows in $1 keychains and $3 fingerless gloves. Click on the slideshow to see the goodies worth making the trip to the store!
