Functional Sculpture of Caffeinated Bliss!

No matter what time of year, there’s only one way I like my coffee… ICE COLD! But making a good iced coffee yourself is difficult given that a fresh brew is always hot, watering down the ice before you have a chance to enjoy. That was then, this is now! The Coffee Extract Tower is a sculptural, functional slow-drip coffee system that works overnight to create a concentrated coffee with an entirely different chemical profile than hot coffee that’s perfect for throwing over ice! When something smells funny…

One way we naturally determine the quality of our food is to give it a quick smell. But even our noses get it wrong sometimes! The Smeller works much in the same way, but with enhanced sensitivity. It picks up on the most minute of scents and compares them to a vast library to let the user know the exact condition of produce, meat and other foods. You can even share your smells on social media with just a click of a button!

The Farm 432 project explores growing the other white meat: BUGS! Named 432 for the number of hours it takes 1 gram of black soldier fly eggs to turn into 2.4 kilograms of delicious larvae protein, the device makes it possible to harvest up to 500kg of larvae per week (roughly two meals) for those who can stomach it!  Hit the jump to see how it works and watch designer Katharina Unger fry up some bugs!
