Posted in: UncategorizedThis Just Inbox: Femke DeVries Unstated Statements 02
Posted in: UncategorizedUnstated Statements 02 is the second part of a project by fashion and jewelry designer Femke De Vries to make ambiguous statements with clothing used most commonly as a platform for expression. Unstated Statements 01 is a series of t-shirts with holes cut out of them, and 02 (pictured here) fills plastic name tag holders with a sheet of gold or silver instead of a tag.
Though one could argue these statements are the opposite of “unstated”, we do like the mix of texture, blankness and banality expressed in these projects.
The pins will be available at Design Miami at the Nektar De Stagni temporary Jewelry Salon between December 2nd and 5th.

Generational Communications
by skyarrow in general design discussion
I have taken notice lately of a trend of younger people (not just designers) relying more and more upon email for communications with others…I am sort of a “middle ground” in terms of age and I use both email and phone calls to conduct my business…I am fascinated by the difference that these two generations have in the way they do things. I don’t think it’s just a “potato / patato” thing – I suspect there is a larger cultural/psychological shift happening.
Alex Creamer: NYC Spaghetti
Posted in: Uncategorized“I created this spaghetti packaging for a university project last year. The brief was to package one of 5 difficult items i.e. eggs, a rose, custard powder, spaghetti or marbles. I chose spaghetti. The spaghetti sits on a 3d model of the Chrysler building that was modeled on CAD by my friend Ben Thorpe. And then modeled out of high density foam at uni. Creating a spaghetti model of the Chrysler building!”

Sometimes the trailer’s better than the moving
Posted in: UncategorizedI feel guilty posting things that are clearly designed only for the rich, but I saw this one and just had to have it (well, for the blog). The Opera is a wickedly collapsible mobile living thingamajiggy (they insist it’s “not a tent, not a caravan and not a motor home”) designed by Belgium’s Enthoven Associates and manufactured by hand in the Netherlands. And while it packs up small, it opens up pretty large:
The dimensions of the Opera are magical. When it has opened and levelled itself by electric power – inside 5 minutes and without tent pegs, stabilizer jacks and loose tent poles – what you see is a residence measuring 7 metres long, more than 3 metres wide and 3.5 metres high with every conceivable luxury: two first class and electrically adjustable beds that become one with a single simple movement, hot and cold water, ceramic toilet, LED lighting and a mobile hob and barbecue….
There’s also an espresso bar and a wine cabinet in case like, you get thirsty.
If you’re eccentric-rich, I suggest you buy one of these and plunk it down in the middle of an American trailer park, for one of the most assymetrical forays into Keeping Up With the Joneses ever.
