Meet Manolo, Mingle With The Olsens, And Party With Opening Ceremony At Fashion’s Night Out!

imageAny fashion week brings with it a slew of star-studded parties, but next month’s spring 2010 shows in NYC will be ushered in by an absolute extravaganza- Fashion’s Night Out. The September 10th event will feature everything from model and celebrity appearances to in-store events and meet and greets, and of course, shopping! It’s being put on by Vogue, the CFDA, NYC & Company, and the City of New York, with the idea that engaging the city in the fun and excitement of fashion and shopping will restore consumer confidence once again. So what can we expect? For starters, Anna Wintour will appear at Macy’s in Queens (wow, who would’ve thought) to sign t-shirts (again, wow), Andre Leon Talley will host a game at Bergdorf’s. Coco Rocha will be doing a special performance at DKNY, Sasha Pivovarova will be showing her art at Henri Bendel, and it-girls like Harley Viera-Newton and Alexandra and Theodora Richards will be DJ-ing about town. Want more? Manolo Blahnik will hold a meet-and-greet, Oscar de la Renta will sing, Opening Ceremony is having a block party, and Chanel will have a customized handbag studio! Still not excited? Mark your calendars: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will be bartending at Barneys– is it bad that I want someone to order a black and Tanner? This Season’s Hottest Shoes Mix Leather And Lace

imageAs if you need any new additions to your “Shoes I Must Have NOW” list, the latest invasion of sexy footwear is more flirty than ever. Lace details, cut-outs, and overlays are popping up everywhere, in both high-end and affordable brands, from demure J. Crew ballet flats to seriously fierce peep-toe booties by Stuart Weitzman. While lace and leather may more commonly conjure up visions of risque lingerie, and let’s face it — those see-through excuses for lace pants are better suited as a doily than on an actual person (unless you’re Lady GaGa), lace-embellished shoes are hot because they bring a certain sexiness without making you feel exposed. After all, a little peep-toe peepshow never hurt anyone! Check out the slideshow for some of the my favorite lacy shoes!

Hot Leggings For Fall’s Cold Weather

imageWhy not add a whole new meaning to the term “hot pants?” Most of the time, all we ask of our leggings is that they’re comfortable and versatile enough to throw underneath our favorite tops. When the colder weather strikes, however, we need a lil’ something extra if we plan on leaving the house. The blustery winds can be enough to make you want to wear nothing but sweats, but the change of season doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice looking cute in order to stay warm. Whether you’re sick of them or not, leggings aren’t going anywhere soon, so while that’s more than we can say about summer, we’ve got some cold-weather safe picks to add to your legging collection Heavier fabrics from jeans and sweater materials to velvet and suede are one way to keep your tush toasty. And don’t underestimate simple additions such as patches, zips and buttons to give your garment just a little something extra when facing the fall. Regardless of temperature, any of this season’s takes on the now-staple, skin-tight classic are bound to make you look hot: it’s not about the warmth your leggings will bring you this upcoming season — it’s about the heat the new season will bring to your leggings to make you look hotter than ever!

Get Ready For Fall With Rad Motorcycle Jackets

imageYou know all those pretty little floral sundresses we’ve been advocating lately? Well, we wouldn’t want to leave you high and dry with a closet full of unwearable clothing come fall, so we’ve rounded up a handful of motorcycle jackets and vests to take those prints well into the cooler season, and possibly even winter (with black leather boots and opaque tights, of course). Some of the options veer towards the splurge-y side, but nice leather is one of those things worth spending on. We like the perforated leather (look really closely and you can see the tiny holes punched into it), on this jacket from Topshop. Click on over to The Frisky to see more motorcycle jackets fit for fall!

Don’t You Dare Call These Tees Basic!

imageWe love our basics, we really do… but we’d be lying if we said they were the most exciting things in our closets. Sure, that American Apparel v-neck goes with 18 other outfits (and that’s just the grey one) but honestly, it’s kind of boring on its own, right? Why not swap out those boring basics with tees that have just a little something extra? Tiny embellishments transform plain tees from reliable standbys to fashionable favorites in their own right, and they’re just as versatile as ever. Take this jersey tank from Casual Couture by Green Envelope- from the front, it’s a simple, well-cut top, but the back features an exposed zipper that will add a little edge to any outfit. The pearl tee from Sauce is a girly spin on everyone’s favorite slouchy pocket tee, and J. Crew’s jeweled tissue tee practically has a statement necklace built in and would look perfect paired with everything from scruffy boyfriend jeans to a polished skirt and blazer. See the slideshow for your new favorite basics!

Babes In Boo-land: Halloween Costumes For Little Ones!

imageAt age one, I was a mouse, and front-page news for winning my small town’s Halloween costume contest. While my fifteen minutes of fame has come and gone, there may be a little one in your life who has a winning future too. Yes, sometimes toddlers don’t like costumes — or clothes in general, for that matter — but wrestling them into an over-sized, plush lobster may just be worth the hassle. It’s probably true that junior won’t remember his or her first anything let alone the first October 31st, but the pictures will live to tell the story of a good costume. The best thing about these costumes is that they’re timeless, and certainly reusable for the next little nugget that will fit into them. Don’t make them too scary though — the thought of getting a toddler into a costume is frightening enough. Click through the slideshow for some adorable Halloween costumes for babies!

Vintage Fashionistas Prepare Their Thanksgiving Feasts in Style

imageSo Turkey Day is a just a few weeks away, and maybe your family allows you to wear Uggs to the dinner table. But maybe not. Maybe you’re going to be meeting his parents for the first time this year. Or maybe it’s your turn to channel Martha Stewart and host all the relatives at your place for the first time. Maybe you want to be thankful while feeling confident and looking great. (And certainly looking great will help you feel more confident!) If so, then you’ll love this selection of dresses for the Thanksgiving Hostess-with-the-Mostest. After consuming waaaaay too many calories, these knit and jersey beauties will still be comfortable. And, if you do happen to dribble a bit of cranberry sauce on their deep, rich prints, no one will notice. And that makes them perfect Thanksgiving Day dresses for vintage fashionistas. Now just click the slideshow to see the selection.

Cold Weather, Short Shorts?

imageYes, it may seem rather silly to wear shorts in winter, yet it’s so brilliant! I think it’s especially funny since I don’t particularly like wearing shorts in summer, yet there is something about layering the shorts over tights and wearing them with boots that make the seem more modest and less beach-bound teenybopper. But to do this trend right, you can’t just simply throw on your lightweight summer shorts over tights and expect it to work. Choose a winter weight fabric that’s appropriate for the season like wool or tweed for day or silk, leather or sequins for night. The one pair of shorts that can make the cross over? denim cut offs. They have a great rock and roll Erin Wasson feel when layered with legwear and cozy sweaters. Once you have your shorts picked out pick out a base layer like opaque tights, or get try some of this season’s patterned or embellished tights for a little something extra. On top, the more layering the better, and definitely play with proportions. A micro mini short looks great with a looser sweater or top while a more fitted knee length trouser short needs something a little more fitted like a sharp little jacket or coat (extra style points for a blazer with strong shoulders). Check out the slideshow to see some of our top picks that will show off your legs even when temperatures drop.
