Repurposed Cardboard in Posh Chair Shapes

It’s time for some awesome application of repurposed cardboard, folks, here in a set of furniture by the name of Re-Ply. This project works with what designer Dan Goldstein assures is rather unique in both form and method, using broken-down boxes that would otherwise be tossed in a garbage heap, here using them for undeniably strong – and trendy, too.

Best of all, this project is primed for KickStarter, launched now and ready for your support! You’ve got boxes cut and laminated by you, a steel base, and two bolts – and that’s it! The bolts hold the fold in the chair and allow the whole machination to move. Felt is included as well in some cases – and the whole construction can be left with the cardboard exposed or custom printed with designs and logos galore!

The metal base is either powdercoated or zing-plated and the overall dimensions are 30” L x 23” D x 25.5” H – you can reach the KickStarter at Re-PLY Chair and note that it’s already past its funding goal – go get em!

Hand-made wooden lamp gets LED finesse

The design you’re about to look at goes by none other than the name “BOB”, and has one intention: to make you forget about how lovely it is with its simple “it just works” design sensibilities. This device works with LED bulbs, connects with one small black cord, and is made almost entirely of hand-made elements.

The Wood you see throughout the design is uniform and made of essentially the same wood material and grain while the whole design is made to be adjusted simply. Absent here are the ability to make radical adjustments and real lighting changes other than off and on. In this way, this lamp is both traditional and modern – the look is what catches one’s attention.

The Original Air

The Original Breath is a window based air purifier that brings in purified air into your room and employs a very unique way of doing this. It features a system where the external part consists of a solar panel (to power a mini suction fan), an outer glass and plants. So basically what happens is that the air enters the room only after passing through this sealed ventilation box. Regular air is sucked in with the help of the fan and the plants do their thing by absorbing the carbon dioxide and expelling oxygen. The air that is filtered into the room is much cleaner and fresher than before. Clever!

Original Breath is a 2012 iF Design Talents entry.

Huff And Puff

The Puff series is an interesting take on furniture design, where metal and wood make a raw connection. Basically the design studio commissioned a series where metal was cut and welded together to form a deflated shape. The flat-packed furniture is assembled and inflated to realize its true form. The series consists of Puff Stool, Yayu Table and Dan Bench. All of them require a quick gust from your bicycle pump and are good to go!

Metal Swan

The Serenad chair’s elegant form is inspired by the unique sleeping position of the swan with it’s head between its wings as it floats on the water. Its soft yet extravagant shape is off-set by a surprising reflective chrome finish that mirrors the colors and patterns of everything around it. Definitely not appropriate for every interior style, but place it in the right room with the right surroundings and it’s sure to make a statement!

Shade in Disguise

While it might just look like an interesting art installation set in nature, Shade by Ohad Lustgarten is actually a moveable structure for mountain tops, hiking trails, deserts, or any other place where people might seek refuge from the sun and other elements. The skeletal, spiraling shape can be adjusted by the users to cast a shadow for cooling down or to shield from harsh wind. It’s functionality at it’s most beautiful!

From Log To Chaise Lounge!

The Long 8 stems from the multi-disciplinary Swiss artist Natanel Gluska’s log creation. He saws off a huge chunk of log and transforms it into a beautifully refined lounge in a very short timeframe. This current iteration is in fiberglass and can be crafted in many colors. Have a look at the awesome video to see the sawing in action. Totally awesome!
