Stockholm designer Axel Bjurström will present a collection of furniture including these wheeled side tables as part of the Greenhouse exhibition of work by young designers at Stockholm Furniture Fair next week.

Furniture by Axel Bjurström

Above and top: Dolly. The dolly side table takes care of the pile of magazines often found on the bottom shelf or on the floor next to the sofa. It uses the weight of the magazines to gain stability and the small wheels on the backside make it possible to move your pile around just like a hand dolly.

Called Dolly, the tables incorporate a bar to hold magazines, which in turn weight the piece.

Other products in Bjurström’s collection include a combined vase and candlestick, a tray in the shape of a wedding ring, makeup mirror and two chair designs.

Above: Flora. Flora gives you the possibility to use your candlestick as a vase or combining candles and flowers in your candelabra. It is made of high quality laboratorial glass and has a conic silicone joint in the bottom to sit steady in almost all sorts of candlestick.

Stockholm Furniture Fair takes place 8-12 February.

Above: Piga. Piga is a remake of the old fashion swedish “pigtittare”, a mini cabinet with an adjustable mirror to use when applying make-up. Behind the mirror i t has a partition to hold bottles and bigger tubes behind the mirror.

Clients are companies such as the Swedish fashion brand Filippa K, outdoor furniture company Nola, Panasonic etc. Exhibiting at Sthlm Furniture Fair is a first step towards focusing more on furniture and product design.

Above: Hammock Chair. The hammock chair is a simple tube rack with a more sophisticated free hanging textile. The seat is form sewed just like the knee on a pair of skipants that will adapt to your body and follow your movements just like a hammock.

The ambition is to find interesting companies for long term collaborations.

Above: Trinity. The Trinity lounge chair is a small simple lounge chair. It uses the advantages of the three materials; a wooden structure to keep it light and to get natural feel, a steel frame to achieve a stiff, thin curvy back and textile in seat and back get a smooth and comfortable feel.

Serpentine is an armchair designed for sitting outside all year long. The delicate metallic structure reminds one of winter vegetation. When Summer comes back, Serpentine is dressed with long colored cushions that entwine the backrest and armrests supports.

Entailles by Philippe Nigro for Ligne Roset

Here’s a bit of text from Ligne Roset:

ENTAILLES
“Viewing everyday life through the prism of objects which are surprising, yet sensible.”

Entailles by Philippe Nigro for Ligne Roset

Since 1999, Philippe Nigro has worked as a freelance designer; he is also an associate of the De Lucchi studio in Milan, where he works on numerous projects in the fields of product design, furniture and lighting design, interior architecture, promotional events and scenography.
Entailles by Philippe Nigro for Ligne Roset

To use the exact words of Philippe Nigro, these divans are ‘quasi-articulated’ by means of ‘functional notches’ which can accommodate small pedestal tables (for reading, writing, working, drinking, eating…).

These simple details confer on the divans a whole new aesthetic totally at odds with conventional images, whilst making it possible to obtain different seat depths and back heights. In order to fully respond to the original idea, it is possible to have the notches in a different colour and/or fabric. The end result is a ‘living’ divan, which seems to be in constant movement.

Sealed Chair by François Dumas

Sealed Chair by Francois Dumas

Cologne 2011: designer François Dumas of the Netherlands presented this collection of chairs made from bent plastic rods as part of [D3] Design Talents at imm cologne in Germany.

Sealed Chair by Francois Dumas

Called Sealed Chair, the design is made by heating plastic rods to make them flexible then setting in wooden moulds – much like the production of bent wood furniture.

Sealed Chair by Francois Dumas

Whilst the rods cool, the connection points are melted and the moulds joined together, pressing the melted areas against one another to form a seal and the joints of the chairs.

Sealed Chair by Francois Dumas

Three rods are required to make an armchair while only two are needed to make a chair.

Sealed Chair by Francois Dumas

Dumas has also created a more durable version of the seat using a stronger thermoplastic and screws.

Sealed Chair by Francois Dumas

Here’s some information from the designer:

Sealed Chair François Dumas 2010.

Sealed Chair results from the research and development of an accessible and affordable serial production process. The chair’s structure consists of three extruded plastic rods made flexible by heating in an oven.

Sealed Chair by Francois Dumas

After having been formed in wooden templates, the parts are connected using a welding technique that emphasises the melting of the plastic: a seal. Those seals are made by imbricating the templates together as a puzzle. Depending of puzzling two or tree templates, the outcome of this mould is either a chair or an armchair.

Sealed Chair by Francois Dumas

The construction of the chair results from drawing with these bending and welding techniques. Each part works in synergy with the others, stabilizing the ensemble.

Österlen by Inga Sempé for Gärsnäs

Osterlen by Inga Sempe for Garsnas

French designer Inga Sempé will present this ash chair and table for Swedish brand Gärsnäs at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in Sweden next week.

Osterlen by Inga Sempe for Garsnas

Called Österlen, the chair has slices cut out of the bent back and round legs to make a comfortable backrest, create neat joints with the square plywood seat and sharpen the line of the legs.

Osterlen by Inga Sempe for Garsnas

Corresponding cuts in the table legs soften its corners.

Osterlen by Inga Sempe for Garsnas

The text below is from Inga Sempé:

The name of the chair and table is Österlen, to support the fact that this collection is built in this historically strong part of south Sweden called Österlen and designed by an even more southern person. Working with Gärsnäs was a great opportunity for me to design wooden furniture, – a thing that is not possible to do in France where no wood factory would ask contemporary designer to work for them. I knew that it would be nicely built with the high knowledge of this historical company.

Osterlen by Inga Sempe for Garsnas

I wanted to mix the typical bent technics and high skills for fine assemblies of Gärsnäs. My aim was to create a simple, light and quiet – but not minimalist- chair and table, that would be nice in contemporay homes or in older ones, good for domestic purposes as well as for contracts.

Osterlen by Inga Sempe for Garsnas

The main characteristic of the chair is the U cuts made into the legs and bent parts. These cuts flatten the curves of the round legs so the light hits the pieces in a different way, which gives a soft rythm to the chair with shadowed or enlightened reliefs.

Osterlen by Inga Sempe for Garsnas

The bent back’s cuts are made to bring confort by increasing the angle with the seat. In the back support, those cuts allow it to be assembled with the the bent back part.

The front legs are cut and flattened to join the seat in a nice diagonal assembly. On their lower parts, the cuts sharpen the shape of the legs and give lightness to the Österlen chair and table and a kind of an elan.

Chair, h83 × w43 × d49, seat : h49 cm. Natural ash, veneer seat.
Table, h73 × 70 × 70. Natural ash.

SP-7 Dining Table by Schwab/Panther

The same concept is used for the SP-7 dining table. It has 5 pieces and is bent in 12mm steel wire.

The information below is from Kandel:

Pylône is a project inspired by the aesthetic of electric towers, the many ways their lines and structures interact with each other.

The interpretation of these constructions became a series of side tables on which tinted glass trays rest to let assembled structures appear.

They are made out of square, powder coated metal profiles.
