Don’t Be Afraid To Pop Those Colors!

We’ve already gone over neutral colors, but what about those colors that pop and have vivid personality? Bold colors like blue, red, yellow and their vibrant counterparts add character to a man€™s outfit when used wisely. I know there are many men who are afraid of color, mainly because they don€™t want to compromise their masculinity. It takes someone like Kanye West to make it cool to wear pink polos. Nonetheless, guys shouldn’t dive in head first when dabbling in electrifying colors. For novices, I recommend going for neckwear like the Prada paprika tie or the Polo Ralph Lauren navy regimental stripe tie that jumps off your chest with dapper charm. When you are ready to get more sartorially savvy, don a Ralph Lauren cashmere V-neck or look like a ray of handsome sunlight with the BR Monogram silk/cashmere cardigan. And when you’re feeling even more ambitious, slip into a pair of Gucci jeans in orange– but be very cautious when choosing pants in Crayola colors. Do what works for you and don’t do it just because you saw an emo rocker wearing them. Check out some of these colored confections in the slideshow.

Super Sexy Spy Shades

Peek-A-Boo. But, think again if you’re trying to look for any games here. You mean business, and ain’t nobody gonna call your bluff. If you’ve got the means to go incognito like the spies of the newly released movie Duplicity with Clive Owen and Julia Roberts, then you’re in the market for some serious shades. Sunglasses for this type of mission follow the prototype of sleek, dark, and inconspicuous. Frames of this fit can set you back as little as a few bucks, or as much as a bill, but either way, if you’ve got some cards up your sleeve you don’t want others seeing, your investment will be a good one with some spy-like sun protection. Sure, beach season is on the way and all, but fully clothed, sharp lookin’ spies have eyes in need as well. Take a look at this slideshow featuring styles for men and women alike who have an eye for going unnoticed. How’s that for some super sexy spy swag.

All The Nu Rave

Fashion can start onstage and make its way down to create its own culture. In early 2007 neon leggings and bright colored t-shirts started to dot the runways, club scenes, and raves. Starting in London, this Nu Rave fashion spread throughout Europe from clubs like The End to Yelle’s latest video. Clothing labels such as Ice Cream and Genetic Denim have given way to these fashion trends in New York and LA. Nu Rave is a term derived from a similar fashion style of the late eighties and early nineties that was brought from the club scene and pop icons to the catwalks and fashion magazines by designers like Stephen Sprouse (who was among the first to bring a street art/graffiti look to his clothing). The sparkle headbands and oversized neon glasses with matching leggings was first noticed in the underground clubs of London. It then hit the streets of Paris where artists and musicians started to embody the Nu Rave image. Today, musicians such as Yelle, Ed Banger Records, New Young Pony Club, Uffie, LMFAO and New York native Lady Gaga are beginning to deck themselves out in designers such as Jeremy Scott, House of Holland, and Cassette Playa. Even Kanye and M.I.A. have started their own labels bringing this edgy, rocker, rave look to the their fans. This aesthetically attention-grabbing look not only embraces individual creativity, but embodies a culture. Nu Rave is a counter part to a lifestyle inspired by urban music and art. It captures a feeling and a lifestyle. Take a look at WhatsWear.com for more spring trends, fashion movements, and style news!

Hot In The Hive: The Motorola AURA, A Luxury Watch-Inspired Mobile Phone

Is your mobile service contract up and in your search for a new phone, you just can’t bring yourself to buy into all the iPhone hype? Are you perhaps looking for something a bit more — oh, I don’t know — stylish? Expensive?! Well, lucky for you, Motorola has just released the most exorbitant phone buy you’ll be able to find! At a lavish $1,999.99, the Motorola AURA fuses the worlds of top-of-the-line technology and that of designer timepieces to bring you the first circular display mobile phone (a 62-carat sapphire crystal circular display at that!) to provide the luxury of fine jewelry with the crystal-clear yakking capabilities of a mobile phone. Does it have a full keyboard? No. Does it come with cool apps? No. Does it have a touch-screen? Of course not, but it is about as heavy as a brick (so you can literally “feel the richness,” it says) so it can weigh down your pocket after it burns a hole in your wallet. Perf! Hopefully you still remember how to read an analog clock, ’cause this baby is already a whopper of a waste of money as it is!

Price: $1,999.99

Mixing Hip And Retro With Stud Embellished Staples!

Lately, I’ve been noticing a particular trend going around today: studs. Whether they are on bags, shoes, apparel or accessories, studs are a timeless accent that can be worn on virtually anything. Studs are chic, retro and bad-ass. Even if you’re not into the whole punk rock scene, you can be reassured that studs have become a very popular staple in the fashion world. Following this trend, I have found some of my favorite studded products on Karmaloop.com. Perfect on shoes, studs add that extra detail that make your feet look hip and fly. Keep it simple and dainty with The Hayley Stud Flat in Pewter by Jeffrey Campbell, a buttery leather ballet flat with studded bow detail on toe. For a chic, feminine look, try The Iman Shoe in Gray Suede by Shoes for Lovely People, a suede studded strappy sandal. If you’re going for a sexier style, check out The Mel Shoe by Jeffrey Campbell, a strappy leather platform heel with silver metal stud details on criss-cross straps. If you want to expand your stud collection, adorn yourself with all the studs you can imagine! Check out the slideshow for more of my top studded finds!

Vintage Fashionistas Mean Business: Ten Suits for the Upwardly Mobile

It’s been over a decade since I traded the Fortune 500 lifestyle for that of an entrepreneur, but I still remember the best piece of advice I ever received while in the corporate world: Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. It’s so much more empowering to own and wear only five suits that make you look (and feel) like a CEO than it is to have a closet full of clothes that just won’t pass muster in a boardroom. And in today’s economy, with people in every tax bracket minding their P’s and Q’s (pennies and quarters), it’s a good time to remember that quality never goes out of style. Sure today’s selection of vintage suits carry higher price-tags than their shoddily made cousins, but their cost-per-wear can make your morning latte seem like the more expensive luxury. The Top 5 Trendy Jumpsuits For Your Spring Wardrobe!

Unless you have been living under a rock the past few months, you probably have noticed that jumpsuits are the key piece for your spring/summer wardrobe. Once relegated to construction workers, Studio 54 mavens and small children, the jumpsuit has broken out once again. While this trend has been brewing for a while, it’s finally hit fever pitch. I was an early adopter of the trend, rocking vintage jumpsuits and a great little linen romper from Uniqlo last summer; I am so incredibly happy that one-piece ensembles, long and short, are everywhere now! My search for these one-piece wonders used to be confined to vintage stores and a few specialty stores, and it’s like my options have quadrupled. There€™s nothing easier than one piece dressing! Throw on a casual short romper with some flats and a cardigan for day. By night, your options are limitless! Menswear-inspired tuxedo jumpsuits are subtly sexy with some heels for a night out. Embellished jumpsuits with the right jewelry and attitude can totally replace your cocktail dress. Check out the slideshow for my top 5 jumpsuits to get you set for the season and beyond!

Steal Your Boyfriend’s Look With The Must-Have Cardigan For Spring

The boyfriend cardigan is a great transition item from cooler to warmer temps. It’s the perfect sweater to throw on as an afterthought when you need something to keep you a bit warmer, and it’s great as a staple top, too. Okay, so none of my boyfriends have ever worn cardigans (I tried to get one to try the look, actually, and he would have none of it!), so it may not be aptly named. But who cares what it’s called as long as it looks cute?! The idea is that it’s a bit over-sized, slouchy, comfy and cozy, and that’s all that matters! The opportunities with this piece are endless. It can be thrown over a spring-y dress, or paired with a t-shirt and jeans. It’s a great way to add a warmer layer to a shift dress, and it goes well with tights, denim, boots, flats, even heels. Try the look with a more winter-themed outfit, or go for something lighter. There are all different colors and patterns to suit your whim, but even one or two staple colors will work just fine. You’ll find yourself wondering how you ever managed without it! Check out more spring style staples from our friends at TheFind!

Influential International Style: Daphne Guinness

Daphne Guinness, heiress to the Guinness family fortune, sure seems to know what she’s doing. Quite simply, she’s a haute couturier’s dream. She’s open to all sorts of eclectic, wacky, detailed styling – and has the collection to prove it. Although she seems to prefer a simple color palette of blacks, whites and creams, they never appear the same way. Whether it’s a kerchief neckline, Jetson-esque cap sleeves or leopard print detailing, Guinness can pull it off in spades. As one of the world’s most prolific collectors of haute couture (what wouldn’t you give to also hold that title?), she’s a risk-taker, and often a winner of the fashion set. Rather than sticking to any rules, she simply has fun. Think Alexander McQueen meets Karl Lagerfeld meets Vivienne Westwood. Check out my slideshow for a sampling of Daphne Guinness’ style! So with the recession in mind, Haute Mimi thought we would give you a few tips on where to spend and where to save. Feel free to SPEND on… a navy blue suit. There is nothing more sexy and important in a man’s closet than his suit. If one were only able to purchase a single suit, we would recommend a good navy blue.
