Gotta Getaway? Edinburgh’s Missoni Hotel Brings Knitwear To The Next Level

imageNow fashionistas have a place to stay in Edinburgh! Hotel Missoni has finally opened on the Royal Mile and there are more of them to come all over the world. At 74, Rosita Missoni, the doyenne of the Italian knitwear dynasty, has set out to start a chain of boutique hotels. Each hotel is the expression of her creative and artistic vision and sets out to bring out the warmth and color of an Italian family home but with a twist. In signature Missoni style, you’re bound to find plenty of bright saturated colors, stripes, and of course, tons of Missoni zig zags. The hotel promises “the warmth and passion of an Italian home,” and no Italian home would be complete without a great restaurant serving modern Italian fare. At the Edinburgh location the waiters even wear Missoni kilts while they provide stellar service at Cucina Missoni. Now if only the closet came stocked with Missoni’s newest collection… that would make it pure heaven! Not planning on being in Edinburgh anytime soon? You can check out their hotels opening soon in Kuwait, Cape Town and Oman! Check out some of the gorgeous rooms in the slideshow.

Nifty Nautical Finds For Vintage Fashionistas

imageYou may remember from elementary school history that Magellan was the first person to circumnavigate the globe and it was quite the feat. He started his voyage with 280 men and five ships on September 1519 and arrived back in port almost three years later with only one ship and 18 crew members remaining. But does anyone know the name of the first woman to circumnavigate the globe? That distinction belongs to Krystyna Chojnowska-Liskiewicz, who completed her journey in 1976 in only 401 days. Oh, and she did it solo! Of course, not all of us have the drive for adventure and the bravery required for such daring-do. But if you don’t see a personal yacht in your future, don’t despair. You can still embrace the spirit of sailing with these nifty nautical finds. Just click the slideshow to see the selection!

New Clutch Helps Celebs Beat Paparazzi At Their Own Game

imageMost of us insignificant peons have no idea what it’s like to be hounded by the paps. And I on occasion have thought celebs should just suck it up because if no one cares about you, then your celebrity is over. But they can soon mount a counter defense against the paparazzi: Adam Harvey is the genius behind the Anti-Paparazzi Clutch that gives off a bright flash when it detects a flash from a camera. The result is an obscured photo, which for the paps means no check. The clutch will have a limited release in early Spring 2010. Until then, annoyed celebrities will continue to scowl and hide behind a hood or bodyguard. Or they could just render paparazzi photos useless by hiring a photog to follow them, and then give the photos to the tabloids.

Catch A Sneak Peek Ofn The Latest Wedding Styles From “One Life To Live”

imageWe’re going to be upfront with you. We’re much like Blair, Todd, Marty, Tea, the Professor, and Mary-Ann in thinking that Starr and Cole should not be getting married next week on “One Life to Live.” She’s only 17! Cole’s heading to the slammer! There are so many reasons this marriage seems doomed from the beginning — though perhaps that is why these two crazy kids just might make it after all. But no matter our feelings about Starr and Cole’s impending nuptials, we simply adore wedding fashion! We always renew our subscription to Martha Stewart Weddings magazine even though we’ve never been engaged and don’t know if we will be any time soon. But it’s never wrong to keep up on wedding fashion because you just never know what’s around the corner. Look at Starr and Cole — they got engaged one day and are getting married the next! Beauty Buzz: The Latest Offerings From Tarte

imageTarte is by far one of the best beauty brands out there. I adore tarte for many reasons including the silky smooth texture of their products, the vibrant hip colors and also the fabulous staying power. Here are our new favorite products for the summer.

Tarte Lip Couture t5 super fruit infused lipstick set
This is a fabulous lipstick kit that allows you to pair the perfect pout for every makeup look you choose to do. The kit comes with a nude lip liner and four fabulous shades. My favorite shade is called Eden, a beautiful beige that completes my smokey eye look. I also find the box it comes in to be ultra luxe. After the lipsticks finish, use it to keep your jewelry in during your next trip to Cannes.

Spring Greening limited-edition reusable straw palette
A great palette that offers six vibrant eyeshadows, three vivacious t5 infused lipglosses and a bamboo eyeshadow brush. My favorite part of this palette has to be the eyeshadows. They are finely milled and go on amazingly smooth. I use the gold shadow almost daily it’s just so gorgeous paired with black liner and Dior Show mascara.

Beyonce, Keri Hilson or Alicia Keys: Which BET Beauty Stole The Show?

imageThe BET Awards were just held at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and it was a bittersweet show this year due to the sudden passing of Michael Jackson. Personally, the most poignant moment was Beyonce performing “Arms Of An Angel” in remembrance, but you also had other knock-out performers like as Jay-Z, gospel duo Mary Mary, Keri Hilson and Monica. Some favorites won: Beyonce for Best Female R&B Artist, Ne-Yo for Best Male R&B, Keri Hilson walked away with ‘Best New Artist’ and Lil’ Wayne is still on top with a ‘Best Male Hip-Hop Artist win. Great, but no real surprises there! Aside from the big celeb names, fist-pumping performances and musical memories, stars were also lighting up the red carpet and showing it off pre-show! Many of the men cleaned up nicely, but it was the women that did the real show-stopping and head-turning. Beyonce showed some leg in a marbled Balmain dress, Alicia Keys looked confident and sexy in a sari-inspired tunic, and Keri Hilson made a bold statement in a pop-art, mosaic strapless sheath dress. Which BET bombshell do you think was the most daring songstress on the red carpet?

KTG Vintage Shirts Would Make Betsey Ross Jealous!

imageWith less than a week left to shop, many are scrambling to find the perfect Fourth of July outfit. The fourth of July is almost like Halloween; you want to find a look that everyone will love (and compliment), but you don’t want to spend a million bucks on something you will probably wear once. After careful researching, we may have the answer to a cheap-but-chic Independence Day outfit with Kiss the Girl. Kiss the Girl, aka KTG, has been selling vintage-style tees since 2006. The idea came after the founders noticed how many California girls live in their worn-out, well-fitted, and, most important, one-of-a-kind tees. Instantly, KTG set out on a mission to satisfy the demand. The result? Unique pieces made out of quality materials that get better and softer with every wash. All their pieces are embroidered with some sort of design ranging from big peace signs to smaller images of anchors and swallows. They are so confident in their pieces they event stated this: “Kiss the Girl’s unique patchwork designs [on our tees] would make the great Betsy Ross jealous.” Plus in addition to their already reasonable prices, KTG is offering 20% off of your entire order– just enter this promo code when you make your purchase on their website – SUMMER09. For more fashion and style stories, check out www.whatswear.com! Happy Fourth of July!

Rock A Hot Pink Frock Like Blake Lively

imageAt this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards, the beautiful Blake Lively made a show-stopping splash wearing a hot pink strapless dress by Michael Kors. Given the bright hue of the dress, Blake kept the rest of her ensemble on the subtle side with a pair of nude Christian Louboutin pumps, and some stunning jewelry pieces from Lorraine Schwartz including blackened gold and diamond hoops, a black jade and diamond ring and a blackened gold diamond mesh ring. Hot pink was without a doubt the shade du jour on the Spring 2009 runways, as seen at Badgley Mischka, Matthew Williamson, Doo. ri, Christian Dior, and many more, and the neon-color trend will be even more potent with the eighties revival on the horizon for Fall. Blake’s strapless style is both fashion-forward and classically chic, definitely perfect for summer soirees! Check out my SLIDESHOW for 5 styles similar to the one she sported.
