Hot In The Hive: Professional Stud Setter

imageOkay, I think it’s officially time to call off that search for the perfect studded handbag. Now you can custom-make it yourself with this Professional Stud Setter! Portable and super-easy to use, this crafty tool allows you to attach your own grommets, studs, snaps, and other embellishments to your favorite clothes and accessories. It’s the ultimate way to spice up your wardrobe and salvage boring old pieces that were once destined to end up at the thrift store. And at the reasonable price of $68, think of all the shoes, shirts, jackets, and bags you can bedazzle just the way you want them, without having to sift through all the heavily-blinged out merchandise on the sale rack that never perfectly suits your fancy. Now, if you see a girl on the street wearing seriously studded duds from head to toe in the next couple of days, it’s not an overzealous wannabe biker chick… it’s probably just me, taking a break from my fun new fashion toy.

Price: $68

Forever Young: John Hughes Film Fashion

imageJohn Hughes can pretty much be credited for the creation of the archetypal American high school, and his classic films popularized the style and feel of teens in the ’80s. What he brought to the screen didn’t just influence trends at the time– it continues to trickle into fashion movements. Here, a look at the quintessential looks from Hughes’ movies, some of which are totally relevant today thanks to the ’80s being back in a big way.

The bucket hat and blazer: In 1986’s “Pretty In Pink,” Molly Ringwald plays heroine Andie. She isn’t the most popular girl in school, but she loves fashion and shows off her creative personal style. With a nod to “Annie Hall,” Ringwald modeled the menswear-inspired look, but added a feminine edge with floral scarves, which eventually gave way to the “Blossom” craze.

Designers Love Hand-Made Textile Pieces

imageWe recently fell in love with Fancy Picnic, a hot new company on the DIY scene. UK Designer Charlotte creates multi-textural pieces that will help you add those finishing touches to your favorite outfits. Charlotte loves working with gorgeous textiles, silken threads, luscious braids, vintage buttons and sparkly beads as she creates a variety of wearable jewelry. And the bright colors will spice up your late summer and fall outfits. We’ve also found some of our other favorite designers dishing up some tempting textile eye candy. Check out gorgeous necklaces by 7thMagpie, Shagpile, and Kirev8. And if you need an elegant neutral piece, All Things Pretty’s “Once Upon A Time” necklace for $195 is a must see. Miley, Britney, & The “Twilight” Gang Sink Their Teeth Into The Teen Choice Awards

imageForget “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” “Dating in the Dark” or any of the other “quality” television programming you have scheduled on your TiVo for tonight — the 2009 Teen Choice Awards on Fox is where it’s at. If you’re still a teen at heart (or are literally still a teen) and are dying to see the “Twilight” gang take home another dozen awards for their angst-ridden bloodsucking antics or witness Megan Fox nab a couple decorative surfboards basically just for looking hot, the event is a must-see. Despite the actual award-winnings and acceptance speeches, the Teen Choice Awards (which took place last night but air this evening at 8) are still worth a gander if you’re looking for a break from your mindless channel-surfing, since the red carpet boasted an impressive parade of celebrities — those in their teen years and beyond. Aside from the fact that so many stars were actually in attendance, what was even more impressive was just how skimpy some of the red carpet ensembles were (ahem Miley Cyrus). Check out the slideshow for some of the red carpet highlights before the event even airs!

Miley Cyrus to Auction Off Wardrobe

imageNo matter what your age, it’s hard to deny that Miley Cyrus is a good dresser. We only wish we could dress as well as she does and we’re way older than her 16 years. But now is your chance to score the clothes in her closet. Yes, her actual clothes. Miley is auctioning them off! We can’t even imagine how many clothes Miley owns. Things she’s probably only worn once and then put them away. You could go to Walmart and get some super cheap items from Miley and Max Azria’s new clothing line. Or you could participate in the auction for Miley’s actual clothes. And one item up for auction is the chance for you and your friends to go on the road with Miley! Miley is partnering with Ebay to put her clothes up for auction and she’s not even keeping the proceeds. All the money made will go to the Pappy Cyrus Foundation, the Cyrus family’s personal charity that helps children in need. So, whether you just want to score one of Miley’s outfits or you want to bid on the chance for a meet-and-greet with her, head over to the auction and start bidding! It starts today and will run until August 13. Want to do more than just dress like Miley Cyrus? Want to wear her actual clothes? Click on over to our friends at Limelife!

Hot In The Hive: Dominic Jones Jewelry

imageWith stars like Rihanna leading the gothic, punk style trend and edgy vampires popping up as sex symbols everywhere from Twilight to True Blood, it’s no surprise that designers have taken clothing and accessories to the next level. We’re seeing metallic studs and points and shiny materials like patent leather and finished georgettes as added details of choice. Reds, blacks and greys are the new backdrops and blood red lips and pale, pale complexions are gracing the runways. One designer to jump on the “sexy-vampire” band-wagon? Dominic Jones. Jones’ designs are right on with the current edgy, rocker, “don’t get too close or I’ll suck your blood” craze, but still makes it his own. Take his black and gold “fangs belt” for example. Black belts are nothing new, but the gold fangs meeting in the middle definitely make it different! The great thing about this belt is that you can wear it to amp up a simple sheath dress and add some attitude into your look, and then lend it to your crazy, over-the-top, super-trendy younger sister to wear over her slashed leggings and oversized tees.

Male Fashions That Must Be Stopped!

imageMen don’t have nearly the wide array of fashion options that we ladies do — yet they still manage to wear some pretty weird stuff. What’s worse, dudes will keep stuff in their closet FOREVER, and recycle bad and played-out trends from the dawn of the dinosaurs — unless you tell them to stop it. That’s why we’ve put together this list of terrible guy accessories that need to go. Guys, we’re putting a stop to these terrible accoutrement for your own good, because nobody — and we mean nobody — should ever wear Tevas again. Need some more help on what mancessories are a fashion faux-pas? Click on over to our friends at Lemondrop to see what other male fashions need to go and why!

OMFG: Rodarte To Design For Target!

imageRodarte is designing a line for Target’s Go International project, allowing us to die happy after purchasing, well, everything the day it’s available on December 20. Because, really, what else is there to live for once you’ve filled your closet with Rodarte for $60 instead of $4,000? We’d sort of resigned ourselves to the idea that Rodarte would always just be a little too cool to be at all accessible, but the 55 piece Target collection plans have proven us wrong and caused us to hold our collective breathe in anticipation. Rather focusing on any one specific type of the clothing, the line is said to range from knee highs to party dresses and jackets, meaning we could potentially make endless combinations in our online shopping carts as a means of entertaining ourselves. And because Rodarte is Rodarte and, thus, known for their over-the-top-awesome details, you can count on a semi-scaled back interpretation of the same sort of intensity you see in their regular runway shows.
