Get Blake Lively’s Sophisticated, Demure Look

imageBlake Lively definitely has her wardrobe personality down pat… she’s the “sexy” girl. She likes to show off her smokin’ bod in tight designer mini dresses with slits up to here and necklines down to there. But when she stepped out for the CHANEL Fete d’Hiver Gala she showed a different, more covered up side, and looked stunning as ever. She paired a high neck, gathered black dress with a large obi belt and a silver broach necklace. Get the look with a similar dress like the Zero + Maria Cornejo Noori dress, with a draped cowl neckline and cap sleeved shoulders. Blake’s jewelry was a mix of minimal and statement; she wore just one large necklace. To mimic her large silver flower try the broach necklace from Banana Republic. Echo the same flower detail with some black patent pumps with a ruffled rosette detail and a sleek little silver clutch. Get Blake’s pretty make-up look with some classic black liner and shimmery nude lipstick. Check out the slideshow to shop it all!

Bag Of The Week: B. Makowksy Tie-Dye Leather Shopper

imageI knew the second I opened the latest Nordstrom catalog that I was in some serious trouble. It was like a colorful page-after-page party dedicated to the premature welcome back to spring. Bright teal-framed sunglasses, lightweight scarves in every saturated shade of the rainbow… and a tie-dyed leather bag?! Since I already bought the first two on that list (my wallet is crying), I had to give a shout-out to this B. Makowsky Leather Ball Shopper that I just can’t allow myself to buy. There’s something about it that’s just so reminiscent of the perfect weather day (or maybe I’m just nostalgic of my own tie-dying experience in summer camp), plus the cool-toned pastel pattern looks nowhere like the sloppy creations we used to make in buckets on our backyard lawn. And I can personally vouch that the leather really is “butter soft” — I won’t deny that I’ve loitered in the handbag department just to cradle it lovingly. Someone buy it so I can enjoy it vicariously!

What: the B. Makowsky Slouchy Leather Ball Shopper in Mist Multi
Price: $228
Where to Buy: Nordstrom
Who Found It: xgalexy was the first to add the B. Makowsky Slouchy Leather Ball Shopper to the Hive.

Label Love: Australia’s Ellery Is Racy Yet Restrained

imageWhen I think of Australia, fashion isn’t one of the first thing that pops into my mind. Obviously there are people down under who are looking to change that mindset. Australian designer Kym Ellery may have launched her eponymous line in 2007, but she’s more than experienced in the world of fashion. In fact, she studied fashion illustration at the famed Central Saint Martins and was the Market Director for Australian fashion magazine RUSSH. Her latest collection, titled “A Tribute To Dr. Strange” sets the stage for a good girl gone bad look. Body baring pieces are tempered with structured jackets and neutral colors. The aggressively sexy yet glamorous looks are amplified with the use of ostrich feathers, sequins, and leather. Kym Ellery has been making waves in the Australian fashion scene and I won’t be surprised if she conquers the rest of the world too. Take a look at my slideshow to see her Fall 2010 collection.

Rosa Cha Debuts Their Fall/Winter 2010 Collection During Sao Paulo Fashion Week

imageRosa Cha designs are usually associated with unique swimsuits and bikinis that are fun and sexy, but what happens when it’s not summer anymore? Rosa Cha has transformed their designs seamlessly to light and breezy to more appropriate for the colder weather. This was the label’s first time showing in Brazil since new creative director and designer Alexandre Herchcovitch took over, and the new runway collection did not disappoint. Models strutted the catwalk in retro lingerie-inspired swimsuits and separates, as well as tailored skirts and blazers featuring expert draping and lace overlays. The pieces celebrated the female form, showing curves, but still staying sophisticated and original. Sexy cutouts, strategic paneling and bare midriffs in black, neutrals and multi-color patterns were given even more of an edge with exposed zippers and straps. The collection featured everything from lacy lingerie, innovative separates and colorfully modern diving suits while keeping with a common look and theme. Says Herchcovitch, “This is a fundamental moment for us to be able to use the brand’s DNA in a larger number of pieces that go from fitness, spa, and the beach, to outwear,” and the new F/W 2010 Rosa Cha collection does just that. 10 Red Carpet-Ready Vintage Dresses

imageHollywood’s Award Season has officially begun and while umbrellas were the most popular accessory at this year’s Golden Globes, it takes more than a little rain to stop the glitz and glamour. Of course, only a few celebrities dared to wear vintage at the Globes–most notably Julia Roberts in vintage YSL and Penelope Cruz in vintage Armani–but a vintage fashionista can hold out hope that we’ll see more smashing vintage evening wear strutting down red carpets in the week’s ahead. Of course, donning a vintage evening gown doesn’t guarantee that you’ll end up on a best-dressed list—you still need a discerning eye!—but reaching back to the early era of Hollywood glamour can certainly give you a fashion edge. Just take a look at this little collection of vintage evening gowns that are Red Carpet-ready! Click the slideshow to see the selection.

Shine On With Kartell’s Cindy Table Lamp

imageWhat do you get when you combine a table lamp with ’70s retro appeal with a sheen of shimmery metallic finish? The Cindy Lamp from Kartell. I’m not sure if I love these lamps or am repulsed. I am drawn to their teardrop base shape and fun metallic chrome-like finish radiating an iridescent glow. I could see these paired with a minimalist room on an all black matte night stand that would make these babies pop. What do you think of these extremely shiny lamps? This Cindy lamp by Kartell comes in three colors: Platinum, Bronze and Violet. $273 at Barneys New York.

10 Candy Colored Accessories To Satisfy Your Stylish Sweet Tooth!

imageIt doesn’t make sense when someone tries to apply the saying, “Like a kid in a candy store…”, when referring to me because I still get very excited over jellybeans and gummy bears, but unlike a kid, I’m old enough to care about the empty calories that candy brings. Candy is essentially just flavored sugar, so what is it that makes it so appealing and fun to eat, as opposed to just downing packets of refined sugar at the local coffee shop for a sweet fix? It’s the fun and eye-catching colors on gumballs and jujubes that make us turn our heads, puts a smile on our faces and has us gravitating towards the Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe window. Now they’ve taken this same childhood charm and translated it into something just as bright and cheerful, but with much more style (and a lot less calories!) to make it perfect for adults! Bright beads on necklaces and earrings and sweetly colored bracelets and sunglasses add fun focal points into any ensemble, and would also look perfect for Spring. So gather your weekly pocket money and click on the slideshow to see my favorite candy-colored jewelry that will leave you like a kid in a candy store!

Undressed: Lingerie-Inspired Looks That Go Beyond The Morning After

imageAlexander Wang seems to favor the undressed/dressed down look, so it was no surprise when a hint of boudoir styling made its way into his recent collections. Christian Dior, never hesitating to push the fashion envelope while maintaining an exceptional level of elegance, presented a more intentional, more seductive lingerie-inspired collection at this past fall’s ready-to-wear shows. And Marc Jacobs took the trend to new levels when he showed satin bralettes worn outside of tops at his most recent Spring show. Fans of these design houses know by now that extreme runway trends like these aren’t always meant for the streets, but can certainly be adapted into looks that are appropriately alluring enough to see the light of day. Instead of letting that lacy slip work overtime with heels and a coat, try the silk pieced dress from Banana Republic’s Monogram collection. LnA’s garter leggings, though not for the faint of heart, are ideal for those who want to play peek-a-boo without getting caught (though we make no guarantees.) The idea here is to temper the racy statement piece with casual additions, like a bustier-inspired top with a chunky cardigan or a slip dress with rugged flat boots. Done right, the result is unexpectedly put-together, one we’d like to call “morning after-chic”… minus last night’s makeup, of course. Click my slideshow for 10 ways to get the look.

Coquette Presents The 2010 Golden Globes: Best Dressed!

imageI know everyone has their own top choice but to me, best dressed went to Kate Hudson. Her Marchesa strapless silk crepe gown with sculptured band bodice and bottom flared skirt was modern, architectural, and looked simply stunning on her. Paired with her Stephen Russell tassel earrings (see my earrings post here), the girl looked impeccable! Kate gets my vote, but others, like Halle Berry and Marion Cotillard, were also sheathed in jaw-dropping ensembles and sparkling accessories. Interested in seeing other stars’ red carpet ensembles?
