How To Look Cute (And Stay Dry) In The Rain!

imageLooking cute when it’s raining is no easy feat. It’s amazing how quickly you can go from looking impeccably stylish to looking like… a wet dog (and trust me, that’s not cute if you’re a human). You could brave the storm in head-to-toe rain gear, but at that point you’d probably rather be drenched and fashionable than dry and completely drab. I’ve compiled a collection of rainy day essentials that are so stylish, you might find yourself wishing for puddles! Hunter wellies are playful and easy to coordinate with your outfits, and you can seriously wade to work in them- I know I have! A cute trench coat is a must-have- I’m loving Topshop’s take on the classic topper. Kate Spade’s bow-adorned rain boots would be lovely with thick-knit tights and a felted mini, and you definitely won’t forget your umbrella when it happens to be clear and bubble-inspired! See my slideshow for the wet-weather items that’ll make your (rainy) day!

Vintage Fashionistas Are Thinking Pink in October

imageFor more than 20 years, October has been internationally known as Breast Cancer Month. It’s a time for people, organizations and businesses to rally together to raise money for this cause, without forgetting, of course, that breast cancer strikes millions of men and women each year, and not just in October. The color pink was selected as a symbol for this fight. Why? Because while the vulnerability of this color represents the fear, pain, uncertainty and loss felt by those struck by breast cancer, pink’s brightness also symbolizes the hope and strength found in each victim’s personal fight. And while you might choose to don the now-famous pink ribbon to show your support this month, you might choose to go all out in all pink, too. If that’s the case, click the slideshow for a selection of fabulous vintage finds in all some beautiful shades of pink.

Fly High This Fall With Amelia Earhart’s Style

imageAmelia Earhart was one of the first heroines I looked up to when I was growing up. As an aviatrix, she was the first to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and inspired the love for flight in generations of women. In her attempt to fly around the world in 1937, Amelia disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean and the mystery still remains on what really happened. This Fall, theater goers can see Hilary Swank in the biopic Amelia which chronicles her rise to fame. Aside from her amazing accomplishments, Amelia Earhart also has an iconic style which included aviator hats, leather jackets, jodhpurs tucked into boots and a feminine scarf to top it all off. Her style is distinctive enough to be a Halloween costume, yet casual enough to be an everyday look as well!. Check out my slideshow to see how you can be inspired by Amelia’s style!

As seen in Real Simple magazine, the Transfourmer coat is one coat that can be unzipped and worn in 4 different ways. The inside is lined with Rachel’s signature graffiti print, for an unexpected pop of color. Hot In The Hive: Alexis Bittar Skinny Lucite Bangle!

imageWe all know what lucite is, although many of us don’t yet own anything made from this material. Lucite is an acrylic, fiber-glass, plastic type that gained popularity through furniture designers trying to capture a more modern, space-age feel in their home designs. Poor lucite has always been seen as the cheap and easy cousin to other more sophisticated substances and causes most of us to immediately picture acrylic nails and the generously clunky and high heels of exotic dancers. However, lucite is actually a material that can be manipulated easily into something beautiful and unique. Jewelry designer Alexis Bittar puts a new spin on this misunderstood material and takes it from visions of trashy to visions of classy. His lucite bangles come in a range of translucent colors and varying widths, simple and chic or embellished with gorgeous glittering accents, and can all be seen at the Alexis Bittar website!

Price: $225
Who Found It: idabone was first to add the Alexis Bittar Skinny Lucite Bangle to the Hive.

Wardrobe Jackpot: Boring Stores, Reinvented!

imageThis recession totally sucks. But, if you ignore the unemployment rate and rising cost of beer, some good is definitely coming from it. And one of those positives is the fact that the plummeting sales of retail chains has caused them to re-evaluate their brand and reinvent themselves for fall. Suddenly stores that used to make me feel nauseous (boasting window displays stuffed with mom jeans and fugly tablecloth patterns), actually have some adorable stuff that us college girls would actually consider wearing. For the closets of fashionistas, this is great news. Now there are a dozen more stores that we can peruse online during class and drool over on our weekly treks to the mall. (Plus now when my mom calls and tells me she’s going to Ann Taylor to pick up a suit jacket, I can ask her to pick me up a cute skirt to add to my care package!) Sink Your Teeth Into These Seriously Scary Vampire Halloween Costumes!

imageWith the Twilight and True Blood sexy vampire phenomenon leading the way, these blood-sucking bad guys are back in full force. But even before the unruly hair and pale skin of Edward Cullen the soap opera story plot lives of those hot monsters from True Blood, vampires were still around and intriguing us regular mortals while scaring the living daylights out of us at the same time. It started with Dracula, and then there was Christopher Pike and Anne Rice who added sex appeal to their vampiric characters (who could forget Brad Pitt as a young, brunette bloodsucker?), and of course the ultra-buff Wesley Snipes in Blade. Now with Halloween fast approaching, there’s never been a better time to dress-up as these Halloween classics. Choose the usual vampire get-up with the swirling cape, fake blood and drawn-in widow’s peak, or put a modern day spin on it a la Twilight and don a cool leather jacket, lighten your skin tone by about 6 shades and pop in some fake fans. Bonus points for chiseled good looks and stubble. Check out the slideshow for what you’ll need to have an undead Halloween!

Chucks Never Go Out Of Style!

imageIt’s really strange to go out now and see that Converse Chuck Taylor high-tops are still being worn by school kids. I think of Chucks as the shoe that sort of defined Generation X, and to see that they’re still so popular is kind of nice. Chucks are great because not only do they look cool, they can be adapted to go with just about any casual outfit, and to say that they’re comfortable is the understatement of the century. You even see some people pushing the look to the limit, wearing their Chucks with formal wear. There’s really no end to what you can do with these shoes. The good thing is that these days, you can get Converse Chucks in all the standard colors, but also in some interesting new styles. So whether you’re into classic looks, or rule breaking, there will always be a pair of Chucks out there for you. Click over to our friends at TheFind for more on these cool kicks!

Easy Halloween Costume Ideas From American Apparel!

imageLove them or hate them, American Apparel is probably one of the best places to get your basics. I wear their t-shirts almost everyday but I generally stay away from their more body-conscious (and body baring!) clothes. However, I’ve found that Halloween is the best time to let loose and go for something you wouldn’t wear on the regular basis. American Apparel has a Halloween costume guide every year that includes old standbys like an aerobics getup, Grecian goddess or cabaret dancer. One idea that really stood out for me was dressing like your grandparents and then I also brought together two costume ideas that are more simple and cost-effective. Go as a figure skater with a short dress and leg warmers or as a Parisian in a striped boatneck shirt, skinny pants, and a beret that’s worthy of landing you on our favorite street style websites! Check out my slideshow to see how you can win best Halloween costume by going all American (Apparel).
