Why choose one when you can have 3?

If this chair looks familiar but you can’t quite put your finger on why, it’s because you’re seeing 3 of the most celebrated seating designs at once! Appropriately called the Masters chair, it pays homage to Eames, Saarineen and Jacobsen by incorporating the silhouettes of each of their iconic chairs into it’s seat-back. Also available in a stool version —>

Timeless Combinations

Markus Johansson’s Colibri chair transforms the inspiration from Nordic stick back chairs into a contemporary modernist expression – easy-going, yet classical. Furthermore, the design empowers its owner to take part in the construction process and choose from four different bases, four different backs, four different armrests, or even four different seats in textile or bonded leather. No matter the combination, there’s no going wrong!

Squirmable Seating

There’s something very honest and friendly about this simplistic yet inviting chair and footrest combination called Nuno. Everyone knows that when it comes to seating, true ergonomics mean you can adjust the position of your body and the chair will follow suit… not the other way around. That’s precisely what it achieves with thoughtful construction applied to otherwise basic materials. Check it out!

Studies have shown that ergonomic seating comfort is achieved through the connection between movements and changes in body position. In response to this, a simple bench offers your body the ability to sit in a way that is comfortable to you. The centerpiece of the chair is comprised of a flexible directional back made of felt. It is designed in a way that allows for varying positions and is therefore very adaptable. The adjustable backrest supports and warms the lower back, providing greater support.

Side table extends from base of Rise sofa by Note Design Studio

The wooden base of this sofa by Swedish firm Note Design Studio extends outwards to become a side table.

The low table was formed by continuing the ash wood platform out from one end of the sofa, which is part of Note‘s Rise collection designed for Swedish furniture brand Fogia.

“The integrated side table becomes a bridge between the piece of furniture and the rest of the room,” said the designers. “A surface for a still life, a favourite book, plants or whatever you choose to have close at hand.”

Rounded soft cushions covered in quilted upholstery sit on top of the base. The collection is named Rise because the seat backs are shaped to resemble the sun coming up over the horizon.

Note created the range for use in both domestic and commercial settings. The high back is designed to shield the sitters from an open-plan office space that could be situated behind.

“It’s a sofa with is own expression,” Note’s Cristiano Pigazzini told Dezeen. “We got inspired by the shape of the rising sun to create a piece of furniture that stand alone, a elegant centrepiece for both home and public spaces.”

The sofas are available with or without arms, and the range also includes a footstool with a matching base and fabric.

The series will be on show at the Stockholm Furniture and Lighting Fair and Note’s open exhibition at the Old Luma Factory during Stockholm Design Week, which starts on Monday.

Double Duty Seating

As you might guess from the name, the Octahedrons stool takes inspiration from simple yet functional geometries to form its multifunctional shape. How is it multifunctional? The support system is created using equilateral triangles that give it structural integrity whether it’s sideways or upright. Interchangeable seats adapt  to either position to accommodate one or two people depending on the user’s functional or aesthetic needs.

Tadao Ando’s Dream Chair: An imaginative ode to the classic designs by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son

Tadao Ando's Dream Chair

Founded in 1908, Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Son is largely known for using natural materials, relying on refined design and the unblemished beauty of raw wood, wicker and leather to tell each piece’s individual…

Feel Free to Fidget!

The H-Lounge was designed around the idea that a chair shouldn’t dictate how one should sit. Its gently arched corners provide just enough support to comfortably nest your bod, but not so much that it restricts being able to switch up your position completely. A simple architectural structure and fluid form mean freedom of movement and absolute comfort for active sitters!

We’ve Got Felt Fever

The Ivetta chair goes to show that simplistic design doesn’t have to be cold and uninviting! Available in both legged and rocking versions, the frame is composed of solid beech wood with seat back and arms are wrapped in soft felt. Despite its elementary geometries, it’s as cozy as can be!

A Scorpion Without the Sting

The Scorpion chair earns its title from its shape which subtly mimics the form of the creepy crawly creature by the same name… only with 3 legs instead of 8! Formed using a traditional Chinese mortise and tenon joint structure, the nail-less design falls somewhere between a chair and stool with its single extended leg that serves as a small back. Don’t be deceived by the name… it’s friendlier looking than you might think!
