A Smarter Smart-watch

Unlike many other smart-watch concepts, the Echo doesn’t stray from the familiar watch form. Instead, it merges the most essential smartphone apps into a simplistic touch-screen circular face. Access your email, calendar, map, fitness and music apps all from the convenience of your wrist! Check out the vid to see its near-perfect interface —>

Ignore Mom! Play with your food!

Pixelate is a Guitar-Hero-style eating game in which players compete in a one-minute showdown to see who can eat the most food in the correct order. (Yes, fo’ real!) A digital interface built into a custom dining table shows players which foods to eat and when, while the game detects whether they’ve eaten the correct food by measuring the food’s resistance on the fork. Pixelate gameifies the act of eating, challenging players to consider whether they think before they eat, or eat before they think! Video after the jump!

Open Your Mouth And Say… Ah!

The non-fuss E-spatula is a primary examination device that a doctor uses to depress your tongue and peek inside your throat. This clever gadget integrates the spatula, light, and thermometer and takes the patient’s temperature in just one procedure. The device includes a disposable tip, which is a single-use transparent silicone shell. This helps maintain hygine.

  • Traditionally the spatula needs to be used with a separate light, which is troublesome.
  • The central light on the spatula activates automatically when the spatula is pressed on the tongue.
  • The detecting point at the tip tells the temperature automatically, and the value is shown on the LED screen synchronously.
  • The replaceable shell is thin for sensitivity to temperature, and it is elastic to facilitate easy replacement.
  • It can be recycled.
  • A storage base for the implement contains replacement shells.
  • A new shell is put on the spatula when it is inserted into the base.
  • It slides out from the side.

E-spatula is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.

Direct Power

The Parenting-Battery is a twist to the numerous battery concepts we have seen here on Yanko Design. It basically houses two pencil cells that can be collectively used as one battery. Moreover you can directly recharge the cell thanks to the embedded socket plug. Looks to be a bit complicated to function, but you get the drift, right? The idea is to prolong the useful life of the battery and stay within the eco-friendly parameters.

Stealth Chic

The Stealth light’s simplistic form is achieved by laser-cutting and folding a single sheet of super-strong and lightweight perspex. Mountable on the wall or ceiling, its sleek, barely-there aesthetic will garner compliments without overpowering a room.

A simple way to make crushed ice

Fine crushed ice is reserved for those with a fancy in-door refrigerator dispenser, right? Wrong! This hand-held ice crusher works by manually twisting each end to activate the internal crushing components. Small enough to throw in a drawer, now anyone can have flaky ice to add an aesthetic and textural effect to beverages!

Sweet Noise

Can noise ever be sweet? Yes, only if it’s routed through the Music Yue – noise converter device. The idea behind this project is to transform everyday noise pollution to something more soothing. Imagine living near the railway tracks or on a busy street and having to live with those track noises and blaring horns! The Music Yue simply detects a recurring rhythm and transforms it into a pleasing tune. Imginative and something we urbanites could do with!

Music Yue is a 2013 Electrolux Design Lab semi finalist.

Visible Keys

Wow Clear is a keyboard cover that magnifies the letterings and also provides OLED backlighting. The concept germinated from the thought process that as we age our eyesight gets weaker and we resort to vision corrections. This keyboard cover helps you view the keys better and customizes the colors according to your fancy! What quirky fun!

Wow Clear is a 2012 TISDC finalist.

Fire Away!

I’m a little embarrassed to admit I have no idea how to use a common fire extinguisher… but I know I’m not the only one! While I’m sure it’s somewhat basic, compared to the SafeHome extinguisher, it’s way more complicated. Just pull the pin to release the trigger, point in the direction of the fire, and let ‘er rip!

Easy and light enough for kids to use, this compact extinguisher was designed for mounting in areas of the home that are most vulnerable to fire. With one quick grab, it slips out of the holder with your hand already in position to use!
