Pebble by KiBiSi at Dezeen Watch Store

Dezeen Watch Store: Pebble is the first watch by Danish design studio KiBiSi and is now available in four colours at Dezeen Watch Store.

Pebble designed by KiBiSi

Pebble is the result of a collaboration between Jacob Juul of Danish watch brand Bulbul and KiBiSi. The design includes a distinctive asymmetric face that was inspired by the smooth contours of the pebbles found on Scandinavian beaches.

Pebble designed by KiBiSi

“Jacob asked us ‘why are all watches round or square?’, KiBiSi’s head of design Lars Larsen told Dezeen, “and we decided to use this question as the starting point for the design.”

He continued: “When you look at the watch the asymmetry is not the first thing that catches your eye. The shape feels familiar and not radical – it’s ‘off’ in a balanced and delicate aesthetic way.”

Pebble designed by KiBiSi

The timepiece, almost two years in the making, places emphasis on high quality craftsmanship and includes a double-sided Italian leather strap. “We wanted to make the product the brand and focus more on the piece” Lars said. “The watch becomes a piece of contemporary jewellery.”

Pebble designed by KiBiSi

The dial is complemented by a minimal face and a unique injection-moulded silicone loop. “The loop functions as understated brand information but remains eye-catching,” Lars added. “A traditional leather loop tends to soften and break over time; this solution is long lasting and durable.”

Pebble designed by KiBiSi

Other features include a stainless-steel case topped with scratch resistant sapphire glass and a Ronda Swiss-made movement with a ten-year battery life.

Pebble designed by KiBiSi

Entrepreneur Jacob Juul launched Bulbul in Copenhagen this year. The brand name can be translated as nightingale in the Middle East and India, but can also refer to a small songbird with a distinctive mohawk.

Pebble is available at Dezeen Watch Store in four variations for £290.

Bulb Fiction pendant lamp by KiBiSi

Bulb Fiction pendant lamp by KiBiSi

Product news: Copenhagen design firm KiBiSi designed this low-energy pendant lamp by scaling up the shape of a classic light bulb.

KiBiSi’s Bulb Fiction pendant lamp unites the socket and bulb into one product.

The shade is made from hand-blown opal glass and the pendant’s cord incorporates a thick white silicone cover to give it extra volume. The cord can be tied in a knot for a different look and the lamps can be hung in clusters.

“The fixture creates the illusion of a classic incandescent bulb, hides the low-energy light source and ensures a comfortable, soft light,” said the designers.

Bulb Fiction is now available to buy in North America through furniture company HighTower.

KiBiSi is an industrial design firm founded in 2009 by designer Lars Holme Larsen of Kilo Design, architect Bjarke Ingels of BIG and brand consultant Jens Martin Skibsted of Skibsted Ideation.

Other KiBiSi products we’ve featured on Dezeen include an office chair that is mounted on a Y-shaped stem – allowing it to move back and forth whilst rotating, and a series of candle holders made from a compound of plastic resin and powdered stone.

Here’s a press release from HighTower:

Designed by Danish design team KiBiSi and manufactured by Lightyears, the Bulb Fiction pendant lamp is a playful take on the classic incandescent light bulb and is now available in North America through HighTower.

Bulb Fiction remains true to the iconic shape but has been scaled up and broken down, creating the illusion of a single bulb, while hiding the low energy light source, and ensuring a comfortable, soft light with its hand-blown opal glass shade.

Bulb Fiction by KiBiSi

Bulb Fiction transitions seamlessly between public and private spaces from hospitality to retail, commercial and residential environments. It works beautifully as a single lamp, but also looks fantastic when hung in a cluster, a straight line, or in staggered formations.

To further play with the design, simply tie knots in the cord or gather several lamps together to form a modern chandelier.

Here’s some more information from KiBiSi:

Weight Here is a family of candle holders featuring distinct historic references to the iconic typology of chamber candlesticks and candelabras. The designs revisit the standard candlestick appearance and dimensions, and are natural extensions of these made to fit today’s candles.

Weight Here comes in four versions: S and M for ordinary candles and L and XL for block candles. The cast iron parts acknowledge historic artisanal techniques and the Polystone references KiBiSi’s link to modern architecture. These materials provide the candlesticks with a grounded feel and a solid no-nonsense appearance.

iFlash One by KiBiSi

Product news: this magnetic bicycle light by Danish design studio KiBiSi lights up instantly when its two halves snap together.

iFlash One by KiBiSi

The iFlash One was designed by KiBiSi to meet a new Danish law requiring cyclists to attach their lights securely rather than dangling them off the frame, which had been common.

iFlash One by KiBiSi

When not in use, the front and rear lights connect magnetically into one compact object that can be kept in a pocket or bag.

iFlash One by KiBiSi

Cyclists can choose between a flashing or steady light, which lasts up to 60 hours.

iFlash One by KiBiSi

We’ve published lots of bicycle accessories on Dezeen, including a pair of jeans with a belt loop that can stow a bike lock and an inflatable helmet that folds down into a scarf.

iFlash One by KiBiSi

Other KiBiSi projects we’ve featured lately include a desk that can be wound up and down and a sofa that looks like a rolled up mattress.

Here’s some more information from the designers:

iFlash One is a bike light created for intuitive use and easy storage, accommodating modern day lifestyle on the go. iFlash One uses magnets for easy fastening, effortlessly clicking onto a magnetic base which is permanently fixed to your bikes handlebars or seat post. Once connected the light turns on automatically. When not in use the magnets pair the front and rear unit into one compact object ready for storage in your pocket or bag.

iFlash One by KiBiSi

Colour codes on the front and rear lights indicate placement and opposing magnet directions ensure correct positioning on your bike. iFlash One gives you the possibility of either a flashing or steady light, providing 60 hours of battery life in flashing mode. The integrated wide-angle lens ensures a safe ride while fulfilling the new Danish legal requirements for bicycle lights. Whether you want a perfect match or a little contrast on your two-wheeler, iFlash One has a range of colour options to choose from.

iFlash One by KiBiSi

“iFlash One is designed with a holistic approach, merging light and fitting into one object with an overall and simple DNA. I like that the magnet seems magic. Making safety fun and easy through simple everyday usability has been key in this project,” says head of design at KiBiSi, Lars Larsen.

This office desk by Danish design studio KiBiSi is a cross between an ironing board and a car jack – simply turn the handle on the corner to raise or lower the surface.

XTable by KiBiSi

Called XTable, it has mechanical parts hidden in its tabletop that connect the handle with the adjustable scissor legs.

XTable by KiBiSi

“A threaded rod connects the two top parts of the steel frame and is directed to the front via a 90 degree gear,” explained creative director Jens Martin Skibsted. ”When the handle is turned the distance between the two top points will change and the table will lift or lower.”

XTable by KiBiSi

“[It’s] a piece of office machinery that accommodates multiple working positions and daily reshuffling,” the designers added.

XTable by KiBiSi

The desk is accompanied by an optional storage box for office supplies.

XTable by KiBiSi

The XTable was launched at Orgatec trade fair in Cologne this week by Scandinavian brand Holmris.

It uses a century old principle known from carjacks, ironing boards and other iconic tools. The principle coupled with a desk is a radical redesign of the traditional office desk. XTable is designed with an optional storage solution for office supplies and other belongings.

XTable leverages the production knowhow and crafts heritage from its manufacturer, Holmris. Holmris is a Scandinavian family owned business that has delivered quality office furniture for 3 generations.

With XTable Holmris is set to redefine the office furniture market with a highly competitive, compact and efficient workspace that will be launched at Orgatec, October 23 – 27, in Cologne.

Roulade Sofa by KiBiSi for Versus

Danish design studio KiBiSi have created a sofa that looks like a rolled-up mattress for furniture company Versus.

Roulade Sofa by KiBiSi

Roulade appears to be curled up but is actually made from a fixed piece of high-density foam with oversized buttons referencing classic Chesterfield leather sofas.

Roulade Sofa by KiBiSi

“The idea was to make a roll-up and unfoldable bed,” designer Lars Larsen told Dezeen, but when that proved impossible due to cost constraints they still chose to keep the “jelly roll” shape, as it “gave us a great expression.”

Roulade Sofa by KiBiSi

Roulade is designed to complement KiBiSi’s Brick sofa of stacked cushions, also for Versus. Other projects by KiBiSi we’ve featured on Dezeen include a pair of snow-proof headphones and a colourful bicycle with a baggage rack.

Here’s some more information from the designers:

In collaboration with Versus, KiBiSi launches the Roulade as friend and family to the Iconic Brick Sofa.
Roulade is a meeting between generations and genres, a meeting between mattress and Chesterfield, chair and couch. Roulade is a Swiss Roll turned sofa – a contemporary, iconic and humorous character with a cosy and comfortable expression.

Roulade is made from High Density foam cut into a fixed shape reminiscent of a rolled up mattress. It is upholstered with top class materials such as Kvadrat fabrics, and the comfort and durability is outstanding. It is a sort of newcomer – a plump 1,5 pax sofa designed for laid back hanging out. Bespoke, oversized buttons modernise the old school Chesterfield expression.

Hang Around and Toss Around by KiBiSi for Muuto

The information below is from

Muuto’s new cooking set and salad servers combine form, function and craftsmanship. The elegant wooden tools are precisely designed and crafted for a sleek modern look and improved functionality.

The innovative extrusion cut in the back of the cooking set HANG AROUND lets you work freely in the kitchen, while your utensils hang out on your pots or pans. TOSS AROUND, the salad servers, tell the same story of craftsmanship, materials and processes used for centuries. But in Muuto and KiBiSi’s interpretation, the wooden tools have an essential contemporary look and functional ergonomics.

These are the first Muuto products by KiBiSi – a Copenhagen based idea-driven industrial design firm founded by Kilo Design / Lars Holme Larsen, BIG Architects / Bjarke Ingels and Skibsted Ideation / Jens Martin Skibsted. The recently founded design studio has numerous International awards between them and we are proud to add them to Muuto’s team of leading Scandinavian designers.

KiBiSi partner Jens Martin Skibsted explains the idea behind Hang Around and Toss Around: “We were originally inspired by Bhutanese crafts. Their wooden everyday tools seem to have layers of stories and thoughts. We combined that with our Scandinavian design heritage and our idea-lead, no fluff design philosophy – and this little invention was bread. ”

MUUTO is a Scandinavian design company that joins forces with the leading contemporary Scandinavian designers to create original products with new perspectives. The result is an innovative collection of Scandinavian furniture, lamps and accessories for modern homes all over the world.

Brick by KiBiSi

Brick by KiBiSi

This sofa by Copenhagen designers KiBiSi consists of stacked pillows with fiber concrete buttons.

Brick by KiBiSi

Called Brick, the design will be launched this month with new Danish upholstery company Versus.

Brick by KiBiSi

Here are some more details from KiBiSi:

KiBiSi launches Brick – a couch series for the new Danish design brand, VERSUS

KiBiSi has designed the Brick series for Versus. The series consists of a pouf, a chair, a two and three seater. KiBiSi set out to make a sofa with strong architectural references since KiBiSi partner Bjarke Ingels couldn’t really find the right architect’s sofa for his apartment. The point of departure was a classic brick bond forming the cushion pattern. The cushions are tied together and fixed with a tailor quality button. The button, also designed by KiBiSi, is molded of fiber concrete – Yet another architectural reference.

Bjarke Ingels of KiBiSi says: “What is a sofa but a pile of pillows for maximum comfort? Turning the habitual modularity of sofa design into a virtue, the Brick explores the tectonic of bricklaying to stack sandbag like cushions into architecture for comfort.”

A new brand with a long heritage

Versus is a new Scandinavian design brand founded by Peter Barreth. Although versus is an entirely new brand with new designs, the team has a long history of excellence within upholstery. The ambition is to mix this traditional craftsmanship with up-beat contemporary design. Brick and Versus launches October 2010
