Hot In The Hive: PowerCup Charging Port

imageLet’s face it — we live in a technology-dependent world in which our daily routine is shattered when our PDA battery depletes to empty. But while we make the necessary room in our budget to get all the latest electronic gadgets, that old jalopy you’ve been driving may not have the modern accommodations to keep you wired on the go. Welcome PowerCup, a 200-watt outlet inverter for your car, complete with a USB hub to charge your phone, iPod, PDA, laptop — whatever your techie heart desires! And the coolest thing? It’s shaped like a coffee cup to fit perfectly in your car’s cup holder! How genius is that? You can finally call off the search for separate car chargers for all your gadgets!

Hot In The Hive: Food Print Bowls

imageHave you ever been tricked by a mirror? No, I’m not talking about those dressing room mirrors that make anyone look like Gisele. I’m talking about mirrored walls that make rooms look bigger or half-filled mirrored bowls that make it seem like it’s filled with endless treats. Yup, I’ve definitely gotten tricked by mirrors! This time, it’s not a mirror that has tricked me, but trompe l’oeil print instead. I found these food print bowls from Dutch by Design and was instantly charmed by them. The outside of the bowls look quite ordinary, but once you peek inside, a convincing print of popcorn, chips, salad greens, french fries, and more can be seen. I can imagine filling the popcorn bowl with popcorn and watching my friends try and get the last kernel only to be tricked! The hard part is deciding which one to get!

Hot In The Hive: Revo Heritage Table Radio

imageSure, retro “gadgets” may look cool in a stylishly old-fashioned sort of way, but when it comes to actually using them, our geeky reliance on modern-day tech has us too cyber-spoiled and impatient to put any effort in something that can’t keep up with our 3G speediness. The solution? A techie piece of equipment that just looks vintage, but packs all the convenient specs and capabilities of the most recent releases in the gadget world. The Revo Heritage Table Radio has the 60s-style walnut veneer surface, but boasts some seriously modern features in that retro-looking package: an iPod dock, WiFi for all your favorite internet stations, wireless streaming from your laptop, a remote control for maximum laziness, and even an alarm clock in case you doze off while listening to your tunes. It’s the perfect device for the music lover who may have an old soul… but secretly can’t live without a healthy dose of modern tech!

Hot In The Hive: Purse Flats!

imageWho says you need to sacrifice quality for comfort? Purse Flats are comfy portable shoes that fold up neatly into a cute accompanying clutch to salvage stiletto-sore feet on the dance floor, out on the town, or even during long meetings at work. Since they’ve been spotted on Mya during her “Dancing With The Stars” rehearsals, you gotta figure they must be pretty comfortable, not to mention sturdy! Sure, they’re not as affordable as the vending machine Rollasole version, but a portion of the proceeds is donated to support underprivileged youth! Plus, since I have yet to find a shoe dispenser at any club I’ve been to, Purse Flats sound like a pretty dependable alternative on the go!

Price: $240, includes purse & flats

Hot In The Hive: Alessi ‘Carlo’ Ghost Bottle Cap

imageYou’re never too old to celebrate Halloween! While you may not be looking for a crazy costume party to go crash, a ghoulish get-together with friends may be just the thing for some Halloween fun. The decor is done, the scarily tasty menu has been decided and your outfit for your Halloween night is appropriately black and orange. A few bottles of wine to pop open and you’re all set. Don’t forget to grab Carlo! He’s a ghostly little guy that is too cute to be scary and loves to sit on top or your wine bottles as a festive bottle cap (if, for some reason, you don’t finish all the wine in one night). Designed by Alessi, the Carlo bottle cap comes in a variety of colors and is cheap enough so you can buy a few to add to your Halloween fun. You did finish all the wine? They’re just as cute and festive sitting around the table and mingling with the guests!

Hot In The Hive: Clinique BCA “Great Lips, Great Cause” Keychain

imageIn honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month , Clinique, among a variety of other supportive beauty brands, is doing their part to spread awareness and benefit the cause with limited edition products sold exclusively at Sephora. Their BCA “Great Lips, Great Cause” Keychain is a pink ribboned product that actually does give back (because we’ve seen too many items for sale this month that don’t donate any proceeds!); in fact, $10 of the $19 price tag is donated to BCRF! And if the sake of the great cause isn’t enough motivation to buy, the keychain itself is totally cute and comes equipped with three of Clinique’s top-selling Long Last Glosswear shades! You can’t go wrong with a good bargain that’s also a good deed! Grab one quick while it’s still October!

Hot In The Hive: Michael Kors Very Hollywood Solid Perfume Cocktail Ring

imageOk, I can’t be the only person who’s ecstatic about the return of Michael Kors as a judge on Project Runway, right? I didn’t know I could miss his clever and biting quips (“slutty slutty slutty” and “insane crotch” come to mind) more than Heidi Klum misses being pregnant. Michael Kors has the American sportswear market cornered with his sophisticated yet effortlessly styled clothing. So I wasn’t surprised when browsing through Sephora that he’s lent his name to various fragrances too. Of course, Michael understands the value of having something with multiple functions. His Very Hollywood Solid Perfume Cocktail Ring definitely fits the bill because it may look like a showstopping cocktail ring, but if you slide the gem over, it’s also a solid perfume. The Very Hollywood perfume has notes of sparkling mandarin, gardenia, and vetiver for a fresh yet distinctive scent. Go ahead, dab some on at your pulse points and get ready to steal the show!

Hot In The Hive: Alexis Bittar Skinny Lucite Bangle!

imageWe all know what lucite is, although many of us don’t yet own anything made from this material. Lucite is an acrylic, fiber-glass, plastic type that gained popularity through furniture designers trying to capture a more modern, space-age feel in their home designs. Poor lucite has always been seen as the cheap and easy cousin to other more sophisticated substances and causes most of us to immediately picture acrylic nails and the generously clunky and high heels of exotic dancers. However, lucite is actually a material that can be manipulated easily into something beautiful and unique. Jewelry designer Alexis Bittar puts a new spin on this misunderstood material and takes it from visions of trashy to visions of classy. His lucite bangles come in a range of translucent colors and varying widths, simple and chic or embellished with gorgeous glittering accents, and can all be seen at the Alexis Bittar website!

Hot In The Hive: Witches’ Kitchen Casserole Cauldron

imageDouble, double, toil and trouble! Concoct the perfect witches’ brew (or a totally harmless casserole that’s just frighteningly festive) this Halloween season with the Witches’ Kitchen Casserole Bowl from Unica. The black ceramic bowl can also be used as a regular serving bowl (snacks, candy, spooky side dishes — you name it!) and is part of a sustainable line of limited-edition goods produced from eco-friendly materials. Sure, it’s a little costly, but it’s not so garishly Halloween-ish that you’d be forced to hide it in the cupboard until next year. It’s universally sleek and stylish for kitchenware, but with the right seasonal decor and the perfect pointed hat, it’s potion-ready!
