Adidas Originals Collection Gets Gilded And Glitzy With Jeremy Scott

I was on the edge of my seat when I heard that Jeremy Scott signed a multi-season deal with Adidas Originals. Best known for his outlandish punk-rock, avant-garde clothing and themed collections, I was excited to see what he was going to do for the Adidas capsule collection. Sneaker-heads and fashionistas everywhere are awaiting the first collection to hit the selected boutiques on February 1st, 2009, and in the following month it will be featured in Adidas Originals stores ’round the globe and online. The crazy collection features leopard print, sequins, fringe and, in true Jeremy Scott fashion, lots of gold. Highlights include some pretty fly gold-winged sneakers, a heavily sequined track jacket, and a leopard print hoodie with ears and a tail! These Adidas duds are definitely made more for the club than for your gym down the street, and are not for the fashion shy! Sneakers will range in prices of $120 to $250, while the men’s and women’s activewear will go from $45 to $450. Check out the slideshow for a preview of the fun and flashy collection!

Mad Men to Take Costume Design to Retail?

0129menretail.jpg

Enjoy the show Mad Men so much that you’d like to look exactly like your favorite hard drinking, hard living characters, without all the hassle of having to build a time machine that allows you go travel to highly fictional alternate universes? Well you might be in luck as Janie Bryant, the show’s celebrated costume designer, has hinted in this interview with Glamour‘s Slave to Fashion blog that she’s currently working on something, perhaps a line of clothing based off her work on the show:

I’m working on some things right now…I hate to be so mysterious but I can’t really say! It would have my name attached to it though.

Beyond that secret bit of secrecy, it’s also a great interview on its own, talking about where Bryant shops for the show, gets her inspiration, and anything else you might want to know about how to clothe a period piece.

Agyness Deyn And MGMT Spotted Wearing Jewish Rosaries from Carlen Altman’s (JEW)elery Collection

You don’t need to be a Torah-toter to love Jewish rosaries. These religion-inspired beads have been popping up on cool kids everywhere (including their fearless leaders Agyness Deyn and the boys from MGMT). The (JEW)elery collection was started by Carlen Altman in her Brooklyn, NY, studio when she was inspired by vintage Catholic rosaries. As a nice little Jewish girl in BK, she couldn’t bring herself to wear a cross; hence the birth of Jewish rosaries. Each necklace is adorned with shapes like Stars of David, Hamsa hands and menorah charms. You can choose from an array of styles with names like “Chai Maintenance” for the discerning Jewess or Shiksa, or just a simple one from the “Classic” collection with a Star of David. These unusual necklaces come in both gold and silver with your choice of colored beads (personally I think the Jet shade has a great 80’s Madonna feel to it). The most recent collection comes in red, black, and even in-glow-in-the-dark (coolest thing ever!!). These are so kitschy and cool, even goyem like me can sport them! Check out the slideshow to see some of the styles and then head over to the Jewish Rosaries site to claim one (or a few) of your own!

Steal Gossip Girl Star Taylor Momsen’s Edgy-Chic Look!

I never thought I would admire and actually be inspired by the style of a 15-year-old until “Gossip Girl” star Taylor Momsen burst onto the scene. Like her character “Jenny” on the hit show, Taylor has undergone a major style transformation and has been showing an affinity for edgy, rocker-chic styles. At the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Annex NYC grand opening, Taylor rocked it in an embellished dress by reigning king of disheveled cool Alexander Wang, adding a pair of elegant Balenciaga t-strap pumps. A shaggy yet sleek ‘do, silver cuff, and embellished bangle were the perfect finishing touches for this good-girl-gone-bad look. The key to this look is always remembering to balance out the rougher details with more refined pieces.

High Fashion Decides to Ignore Financial Crisis

0129highfashion.jpg

Speaking of fashion, while design houses like Burberry and Missoni have embraced the sorrowful economic climate by preparing to fill their racks with colorless street urchin apparel, the ultra-high end collections from Dior and Armani Prive have decided to thumb their noses at mankind’s fall from monetary stability by pushing ahead with as much luxury as they can get away with at their fashion shows (see: a lot). Although they have reportedly cut back on things like models to take some pressure off their well-designed wallets, there are some great “while Rome burns behind them” quotes buried in this story filed from Paris:

“If you react to the crisis, you can’t produce high fashion,” Italian designer Giorgio Armani told Reuters after the show. “High fashion is like watching a beautiful film, it belongs to a different world.”
