Blending With Tempo

I like designer Fu Chun Wan’s thought process that music and cooking go hand in hand. When its soul comforting food cooked with love, it makes the whole process much easier and appealing. And surely aids like the Tempo Blender help a lot! The machine not only tells you how much of the ingredients you need to add, to make the perfect glass of slush or cocktail; but also blends in sync with the tempo beat belted out. In short you end up having fun and attempting tricks like how Tom Cruise performs in the movie ‘Cocktail.’

Electrolux Tempo Blender is a 2012 Electrolux Design Lab Top 30 entry.

Just Like Mom’s Cooking

The Motherspoon concept allows families to connect together and share family recipes even though distances may keep them apart. The concept of storing and sharing recipes has changed over the years and this appliance integrates the internet, a dedicated exchange platform and sensors to get it working.

Basically what happens is that you and your mom buy your own pair of Motherspoon and register onto a dedicated platform for file sharing. So when you mom cooks her recipe and uses the spoon to taste her food, the sensor laden spoon picks up the ingredients and deciphers the recipe. When put on its cradle, the spoon loads the recipe to the sharing platform so that you can access it, even if you live miles apart.

Essentially your cooking gets to be just like your mom’s, or like any other person who you add to your online group. As simple as that!

The Magic of Flambé

Inspired the 1815 creation, the Davy lamp, Fiery sets a new standard in restaurant styled cooking at home. Encouraging one to discover new tastes and flavors, Fiery actually allows you to flambé food without the worry of the fire. The appliance uses a wire mesh to isolate flame, making it easy to use and impress family and friends. Simply pour the liquor in a pan or a plate, press the button to ignite the fire, and then remove it when the flame turns off. Exciting!

Fiery is a 2012 Electrolux Design Lab entry.

Twist and Clean

The Hula Washer promises to keep you fit and svelte as you wash your clothes. Not only do you save time and money, but the concept also keeps your waistline under control. The energy you use to spin the Hula Washer, like a Hula Hoop is used to clean the clothes loaded into the washer segment. Add clothes and washing liquid to the hollow centre of the ring and then start to spin. The only thing problem I see it that it looks convenient for small clothes like socks and hankies, nothing more.

Hula is a 2012 Electrolux Design Lab Entry.

Perfectly Tipsy

The Hurricane is a fun way to blend and mix your cocktails. Unless you are Bond who likes his Martini shaken not stirred, you can expect this appliance to blend you a mean mojito or a spectacular rum punch. All you need to do is choose your poison and then add in the ingredients as directed. A step-by-step guide is displayed on the screen and it sets the ball rolling for you. Concoct classics like Tom Collins or something new and exotic; just don’t get too carried away with the drinks…that’s all!

Chef-approved Cooking

Although they may have the accurate recipe in hand, professional chefs know that the perfect stew or soup is always seasoned using approximations. It’s got to do with gut instincts I suppose, and unfortunately not all of us are blessed with that. So if you are looking for professional chef quality food at home, then you need the help of Ingressure.

Ingressure is an appliance that accurately measures the ingredients of your soup, sauce or stew. It is intuitive enough to let you know how much salt, pepper or spice you need for the dish. It uses advanced sensors and comes with multiple attachments to suit your purpose.

Ingressure is a 2012 Electrolux Design Lab Shortlisted entry.

The Cube by Electrolux

A pop-up restaurant high above Milan’s Piazza del Duomo offers unparalleled views and award winning food

Electrolux_The-Cube_Milano.jpg

Beginning in 2009, Electrolux embarked on a new venture to bring the innovation of its appliances to life in the form of a traveling temporary restaurant. Now, after its debut as part of Nomiya, a project by Laurent Grasso on the rooftop of Palais de Tokyo in Paris, and a run in Brussels, The Cube by Electrolux has just “landed” on the top of an old building in Piazza del Duomo in Milan. This amazing temporary restaurant is designed by Park Associati and can host 18 guest around a single large table. The 150-square-meter space, appointed in wood, glass, iron and Corian, marries Scandinavian design tradition of the company with innovative updates like a moving table and open-view kitchen that provides a veritable stage for the chefs.

Electrolux_The-Cube.jpg

We got an exclusive preview of The Cube in Milan, taking in the breathtaking view of the rooftops of Duomo and beyond, the entire city and surrounding Alps. The contrast with the antiquity of the city around it couldn’t be stronger. The Cube, which is visible from every corner, stands out like a spaceship landed atop the square. Though during the construction the locals were concerned about the final effect—the city of Milan was involved in every step of the process to approve each detail—even the most skeptical seem to have been won over by the interesting experiment.

Cube-square.jpg

This time around, the food is prepared by award-winning Italian chefs and members of the Jeunes Restaurateurs d’Europe including Marco and Vittorio Colleoni from Ristorante San Martino, Andrea Sarri from Agrodolce and Christian and Manuel Costardi from Ristornate Cinzia.

Cube-view-.jpg

The Cube will be in Milan until the 26th April 2012, before relocating to Stockholm, London, Switzerland and Russia.
Prices for lunch and dinner range from €200 to €275.
