The Plate Cooker is intended for busy working folks who can’t spend much time on cooking. It reflects a unique Korean culinary culture: preference for soup and rice as a breakfast, and cooking and freezing the food over weekends. This food is then heated and consumed over the upcoming week.

According to the research conducted by the designer, people tended to heat the frozen rice and other foods in the microwave to pack as lunch and if they heated all the food at once, some dishes were left cold. This Plate Cooker allows you to warm up various foods together all at once and easily cook simple meals in an efficient way.

Nowadays, we’re obsessed with storing everything in the fridges, but this isn’t always the best option for keeping foods fresh… especially fruits and veggies. Some are better kept in a slightly warmer, more humid environment… and for these there’s the OLTU system. Using the refrigerator’s own heat output, clay containers are kept at the ideal temperature and humidity for the needs of various foods.

The combination of containers and refrigerators creates a new, sustainable preservation system for a variety of veggies and fruits. The fridge produces heat which is distributed at the top through openings in the cap. This affects the three clay containers at the heart of the design. Over the containers are four trays where veggies that require room temperature will be placed. These veggies are then hydrated with the humidity produced by the evaporation of the lower containers.

The containers are positioned so that heat affects each differently to create various temperatures in different chambers. The two cold containers are placed at the back while a warmer one is located at the front. The cold-dry containers interior is metal so food is cooled, but unaffected by the humidity. All the containers have external openings to allow breathing and each is easily accessible for the user.

‘There is not much joy in frozen pizzas or eating out every other night.’ Based on his personal experience of living alone and hating to cook for a single person, designer Kim Risager brings us the alternative of the Fastronomy Cooker. Will this turnkey appliance motivate the singletons to cook a sumptuous meal or will this concept just be that – another idea; lets have a look.

Research in Scandinavia shows that since 1980, the amount of home cooked meals has dropped from 72% to approximately 50%. This is probably true for many parts of the world. Fastronomy is fast gastronomy in a product and service Essentially, the Fastronomy Cooker is a mini-kitchen that replaces cooking in the oven, frying in a pan and boiling in a pot with hot air and steam in a glass.

The system is an online Fastronomy Delivery Service where you can select the meals you would like to eat the same night. A single portion of ingredients for your meal arrives at your doorstep, and then all you need to do is combine and assemble. You may not be doing the cutting and chopping, but at least you get the satisfaction of whipping up a hot, fresh meal. When the cooking is done, the double walled cooking glasses can be taken out and cleaned in the dishwasher.
