Which Reality Beauty Looked The Best At The 2009 Fox Reality Channel ‘Really’ Awards?

imageYou’re amongst friends here so go ahead and admit that it’s a not-so-secret guilty pleasure that we’ll change our real lives around to fit the schedules of these “real-life” shows. They claim to be reality television, giving us a glimpse into a moment of the lives of some of our favorite (or forgettable) celebrities. What exactly are they so famous for again? And why are we paying them more than the President to sit around and live out their lives as usual? From Paris Hilton living on a farm, to the documentation of Adrianne Curry’s quickie and sudden marriage to a Brady to Kim Kardashian showing us how much she doesn’t need to work, we just can’t get enough of these pseudo-celebrity lives! But watching their lives that are so much more glamorous than our own is not enough, now we want to give them awards for it. So our favorite reality celebrities to love (and love to hate) gathered for the 2009 Fox Reality Channel ‘Really’ Awards and, unlike their oft over-the-top personalities and styles on screen, they showed up in surprisingly sophisticated looks. Who do you think looked the best at the 2009 Fox Reality Channel ‘Really’ Awards? Is it Kim Kardashian with looking stunning in a simple grey sheath dress and layered locks? Or is Adrianne Curry’s knee-length, sexy one-shoulder LBD and smoky eye that keeps your attention? Even Paris looked polished and lady-like in a one-shoulder, glittering mini and retro-inspired hair. Vote for your favorite in the poll below!

Video Style Steal: Jordin Sparks’ “S.O.S.” Is No Fashion Emergency!

imageOne thing that always seems to instill a little hope within me is seeing American Idol alumni actually making something of their temporary fame. It makes me think, “wow, maybe reality TV really does serve a purpose!” And what’s not to like about a down-to-earth gal from Arizona with a powerhouse voice making awesome music and managing to stay classy while doing it (’cause apparently that’s rare)? Jordin Sparks may only be 19, but she’s already making waves with her second studio album “Battlefield” and even has a few pre-AI modeling credits under her belt. But just because the girl has gospel roots and is most known for ballads like “Tattoo” and “No Air” with Chris Brown, it doesn’t mean she can’t go out and have a little fun. In her latest video, “S.O.S. (Let The Music Play),” Jordin shows off her sexy side… and exposes a backstabbing boyfriend while she’s at it! I recommend leaving the chain acrylic nails out of your outfit (how the heck does she text with those things on?), but you can look dance floor-ready with a shimmering sequin dress and embellished black heels like Jordin’s. Katy Perry Rocks Rupert Sanderson For Karl Lagerfeld Spring/Summer 2010

imageUK shoe designer Rupert Sanderson recently announced his second collaboration with the legendary Karl Lagerfeld, updating his popular Asteroid and Finesse heel styles for spring/summer 2010. Lagerfeld wanted a futuristic-looking shoe to coordinate with his runway show, and Sanderson obliged by adding a geometric heel, then took it to another level by altering ankle straps to loop under the sole and bolting them in place for a dominatrix-inspired detail. In colors and fabrics like white hot suede and metallic silver leather, they were a dangerously perfect complement to Lagerfeld’s futuristic ‘rock goddess’ collection. Katy Perry attended Lagerfeld’s show in a pair from Sanderson’s debut collection for Karl- what do you think of her front row look? Would you wear these shoes? (See more of them here.)

LimeLife Dubs Lindsay Lohan’s First Show A Fashion Fail

imageWhat? Too harsh? Don’t tell us… we’re not the ones judging her. After Lindsay Lohan’s first fashion show for her new line at Ungaro, the critics are weighing in. And they don’t have very many nice things to say. We knew from the start that it was probably a mistake for Emanuel Ungaro to hire Lindsay Lohan as a fashion consultant. Sure, we think Lindsay can look great from time to time, but a wardrobe full of leggings does not a fashionista make. She recently had her first fashion show with the house, and if you were to talk to her, you’d think the show was a huge success. Lindsay said it was “certainly more than I could have imagined, more than I’d ever hoped for… I couldn’t be happier.” Really? She couldn’t be happier? Because if you were to talk to fashion critics, it would seem like Lindsay could have been a whole lot happier after that first fashion show. In fact, Women’s Wear Daily called Lindsay’s line “an embarrassment.” And the Washington Post called the show “a cynical fiasco.” Everyone seems to be in agreement that the show was a disaster. The line, which consisted of a lot of fuchsia and bright orange, didn’t impress anyone. Lindsay called the fashion show “pretty much a fairytale,” but it sounds like one of those fairytales with a really bad ending to us. We wonder where this leaves Lindsay now. Will she stay on as a consultant at Ungaro or will they get rid of her fast? Let us know your thoughts in comments, then get more celebrity and fashion news from our friends at LimeLife! Who Had The Best ‘Do At The “Good Hair” Premiere?

imageFor a celebrity, it’s always vital to look your best wherever paparazzi might be present (like, uh, everywhere?)… so naturally a Los Angeles film premiere is no occasion to slack off, no matter how casual the affair. But when the film is Chris Rock’s docu-comedy “Good Hair,” the pressure is on to be more than just impeccably clothed. Last week’s Westwood debut brought forth a throng of fashionable ladies to the red carpet, including Gabrielle Union and Nia Long who both showed off bouncy curly coifs that hardly seemed as high-maintenance as the film subjects’ stressed-out tresses. And Eve and Raven-Symone were looking perfectly polished from their feet to their follicles with their shiny straightened locks that at least looked fuss-free and effortless (and that’s all that matters, right?). Vote below and tell us who you think had the best hair at the “Good Hair” premiere! Photo Credit: PR Photos

If You Haven’t Seen “The September Issue,” Here’s Why You Should

imageAnna Wintour. Just her name can cause successful designers and big-shots in the fashion industry to tremble slightly in their butter-soft Italian leather boots. The well-known, cold, and demanding character of Miranda Priestly from “The Devil Wears Prada” was said to have been based not so loosely around Anna Wintour. Of course, when they announced “The September Issue” was coming out, all fashionable females and style-savvy men were more than a little excited- a real look into the conception and making of, arguably, the world’s most famous fashion magazine, often unofficially referred to as the Bible of Fashion Magazines? At first, you’d almost almost expect the documentary to showcase Anna barking orders, tearing apart people’s hard work and making life in general miserable to all those around her, just because she can. While there are instances where she leans towards behaving much like her fictional movie counterpart, you get to see a surprisingly softer side of Anna that includes genuine smiles and sincere praises. You get a glimpse into her personal life with input from her daughter and candid comments about her family, revealing they don’t take her role in fashion quite as seriously as many of us do. You get to see that her ruthless, no-nonsense attitude comes more from a need to be efficient in a hectic, ever-changing, fast-paced world and that, despite the fact that she may eliminate many seemingly great ideas and projects born from blood, sweat and tears, there is no malicious intent behind it and that she does indeed have a great eye for what makes an issue ‘perfect.’ Most importantly, you realize that, although she is aware of her status in the fashion industry, she truly appreciates those around her that have raw talent and help make Vogue what it is today, like long-time colleague and friend, Grace Coddington, and that she believes in new talent, like her help with promoting Thakoon. So if you consider yourself a fashionably knowledgeable individual, I recommend that you hurry to see this movie and let it open your eyes!

Paris Fashion Week: Chanel RTW Spring/Summer 2010

imageKarl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais into a rustic barn setting for the Spring 2010 ready-to-wear show at Paris Fashion Week, and managed to switch out at least part of his signature uniform for- gasp- jeans– perhaps hinting at the lighthearted display to come. Models emerged from the barn dressed in springy versions of iconic Chanel tweed separates and frothy chiffon frocks paired with high heeled clogs and platform heels. Colors were subdued- black, white, and versions of taupe and cream made up the palette- and thus the focus remained on texture and form. Lagerfeld left the idea of wholesome, raised on the farm innocence far behind – the girls sported tattoos giving the illusion of thigh-high stockings, skirts were slit well through the thigh, and beehive buns were a tiny bit tousled as if to suggest a recent romp in the hay (pun not intended). Choosing such a strong theme is difficult as you run the risk of falling into a cliche, but Lagerfeld’s execution kept the focus mostly on the clothes, and everything else was an accessory whose role was to accentuate and not distract- this is the essence of ready-to-wear, after all. The overall mood was whimsical and relaxed, striking a fine balance between luxury and accessibility and reminding us why we appreciate luxury fashion in the first place. Video Style Steal: Miley Cyrus Gives “Party In The U.S.A.” A Cowgirl Kick

imageHannah or Miley? Blonde or brunette? Love her or hate her? Such questions often come to mind when the name Miley Cyrus is mentioned… and nowadays, especially with her new album on the rise, that’s quite often. And whether or not you enjoy the teen’s campy Disney roles, her musical stylings, or her knack for photo scandals, you gotta admit, “Party In The U.S.A.” is pretty damn catchy. While the video’s swing set settings and Miley’s tiny cut-off shorts and leather vest are a little unseasonably summery, I can’t help but get in the concert party mood whenever I watch it… and let’s face it — it’s never the wrong season for a dusty parking lot dance party! Click “See Video” to watch “Party In The U.S.A.” for yourself, then take a look at the slideshow to see how you can cop Miley’s cowgirl video ensemble. Photo Credit: MTV.com

Janet Jackson And Rihanna Sit Front Row At Jean Paul Gaultier’s Paris Fashion Week Show

imageJean Paul Gaultier’s spring/summer 2010 show at Paris Fashion Week was certainly star-studded, with personalities from Rihanna and Janet Jackson to Catherine Deneuve in attendance. All wore pieces from the designer’s ready to wear line, a favorite of which was Katy Perry’s taffeta halter strap dress with a sheer paneled hemline. Both Jackson and Deneuve donned Gaultier’s silk and taffeta trench coats, in rich khaki and citrus green, and Rihanna effortlessly pulled off the designer’s bondage coat, complete with straps across the front (and not much else). Other front row fans included famed photographer Patrick Demarchelier, burlesque star Dita von Teese, and Igor Vadim (Deneuve’s grandson). The Secret Life Of A Fashion & Celebrity Photographer

imageImagine that your office is a fashion show runway. Your work assignments typically go by one name (RPattz, Gisele, Brangelina), and if disagreements with your colleagues turn physical, well… hardly anyone bats an eye. Sound surreal? If you’re a successful celebrity and fashion photographer like Getty Images’ Frazer Harrison, it’s all in a day’s work. The world of celebrity and fashion photography is a rough-and-tumble one — a Wild West of cameras, competition, and confrontation that is not at all for the weak of will. “Everyday is a challenge,” shares Harrison. “You battle everything from Los Angeles traffic to overzealous security to your equipment. You’re worried about lighting, your position on the line or the runway. So many things can go wrong and it’s up to me alone to make sure that I limit the fail rate.” With such a pressure-filled job that hundreds of other photogs are doing anyway, why is it worth the stress? “Any working or amateur photographer will tell you: it’s when you see a particular picture published. Front pages are always a satisfying feeling. And really, no two days are the same, which is why after all this time it is still fresh and fun to do.” With over 25 years in the business covering fashion week shows, red carpet events, and celebrity news, Harrison would certainly know, and has stories to burn. His most memorable moments include everything from covering Michael Jackson’s infamous trial to an impromptu photo session with Paul McCartney to getting unprompted career advice from a certain “Jerry Maguire” star, who punctuated her speech with, “‘Oh, by the way, my name’s Renee.” As far as equipment, Harrison prefers a Nikon D3 camera, and his trick to getting the best shots is: “If you saw it [happen away from the viewfinder], you probably didn’t get it. Concentrate, stay focused on what’s happening around you, and try to predict what’s going to happen before it does. And add to that a bit of luck.” And what advice does the seasoned photog have for us everyday point-and-shooters? “Those mug shots of celebrities after they’ve been arrested? They are what you don€™t want! Generally speaking, there are numerous things you can do to improve your chances of taking a good pic.” Read on for tips on how to hone your own camera skills, then check the slideshow to see some examples of Frazer’s best work!
