Rock A Sexy Sequined Minidress Like Nicole Richie!

imageFrom day to night, from one season to the next, sequins are the new fool-proof go-to look. I am so fond of a gold sequined mini dress- it’s such a versatile option that always looks amazing and can be teamed with any color under the sun. Gold is totally the new black! Fashion trendsetter Nicole Richie demonstrated the fabulousness of the sequined mini to ring in the New Year at Tao and Lavo in Las Vegas. Nicole is always one to pile on the accessories but given the standout nature of this style, she left the glitzy pieces at home, finishing off her look with black tights and black Yves Saint Laurent pumps. A relaxed, slouchy style like Nicole’s is highly wearable and can be toned down with a sharp blazer, vest, or cozy knit and vamped up with killer heels or sexy booties. Either way, this style is a winner! Check out my slideshow for 5 sequined frocks similar to Nicole’s!

Scarlett Johansson Designs Mango Bag for Haiti

imageIt’s so great to see celebrities helping Haiti in any way they can. If you’re John Travolta, you can privately fly a whole bunch of people to Haiti. If you’re Miley Cyrus, you can auction off your Grammy Awards dress. and if you’re Scarlett Johansson you can design a purse for the designer you work for. And that’s just what Scarlett is doing! When you purchase Scarlett Johansson’s Haiti bag from Mango, everyone will know you’re supporting a good cause. You’ll have to wait a little bit since the bag won’t be available until March, but it will be worth the wait. The bag features a black and white map of ancient Haiti with the words, “Support the people of Haiti. Designed by Scarlett Johansson. Mango.” The bag, exclusively sold at Mango, will only cost $29.90 and all profits will go to Oxfam’s Haiti Earthquake Response Fund. Scarlett had this to say about the bag: “I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Mango to promote conscious consumerism and to benefit Oxfam’s Haiti Earthquake Response Fund… By purchasing this bag, which I specially designed, you are helping to provide life saving assistance like clean water to the people of Haiti.”

I love seeing celebrities do all they can to help the cause. And by designing such an affordable, cute bag, Scarlett must know people are going to be running to Mango to buy her new tote!

Video Style Steal: We’re Nostalgic Over The Old Britney In “Not Yet A Woman”

imageEver since we caught a glimpse of the Grammy get-up that Britney Spears unwisely chose to wear this year (if you haven’t seen it, you’ve officially been warned), we at the Hive have been really missing Brit’s good ol’ days. We’re talkin’ Britney circa 2001 — you know, “I’m A Slave 4 U,” her movie debut in Crossroads, and the wise-beyond-her-years “I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman.” In fact, speaking of that particular video, while watching it we can’t help but think that she had way more fashion sense ten years ago than she did now, even by today’s standards. I mean, swap those 70’s-style flares for a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans and trade her crop top for one that’s… well, not cropped, and she’s practically wearing an outfit straight out of the latest Free People catalogue. And wait — are those desert boots she’s wearing under those humongous bell bottoms?! Dear far-more-stylish-Britney-of-the-past: if you’re still in there somewhere, come back and save yourself before you do something else drastic like wear another see-through lace dress in public. Anyway, while we’re waiting for that futile message to be delivered, watch the video for a fun Britney flashback, then take a look at the slideshow for current pieces that pay homage to vintage Britney! Get Blake Lively’s Sophisticated, Demure Look

imageBlake Lively definitely has her wardrobe personality down pat… she’s the “sexy” girl. She likes to show off her smokin’ bod in tight designer mini dresses with slits up to here and necklines down to there. But when she stepped out for the CHANEL Fete d’Hiver Gala she showed a different, more covered up side, and looked stunning as ever. She paired a high neck, gathered black dress with a large obi belt and a silver broach necklace. Get the look with a similar dress like the Zero + Maria Cornejo Noori dress, with a draped cowl neckline and cap sleeved shoulders. Blake’s jewelry was a mix of minimal and statement; she wore just one large necklace. To mimic her large silver flower try the broach necklace from Banana Republic. Echo the same flower detail with some black patent pumps with a ruffled rosette detail and a sleek little silver clutch. Get Blake’s pretty make-up look with some classic black liner and shimmery nude lipstick. Check out the slideshow to shop it all!

Which Celeb Fashion Collaboration Are You Excited About?

imageThese days, it’s no surprise when our favorite brands announce the latest celebrity who will be collaborating with them. It can either go really well or super disastrous (Lindsay Lohan for Emanuel Ungaro, anyone?). In the past few weeks there have been a bevy of announcements regarding some of our favorite fashionable celebrities collaborating with brands like Halston and Longchamp. Take Alexa Chung, British “it” girl whose quirky style has landed her a deal to design a line for J.Crew’s sister line Madewell, set to launch August. Another fashionable Brit, Emma Watson took the role of creative director for eco-friendly line People Tree which launches next month. Looking stateside, our very own Sarah Jessica Parker will be working as creative director for the Halston Heritage collection which should breathe some life back into the aging brand. Last but never least, supermodel and style icon Kate Moss has been the face for Longchamp for four years and now she’s unveiling her collection for the iconic label during Paris Couture Week! With all these fashionable celebs taking more serious roles in designing, which collection are you most excited about? Photo Credit: PR Photos

Shop Jessica Lowndes’ Electric Chic Look!

imageI am placing 90210 star Jessica Lowndes on my ‘one to watch’ list due to her undeniable flair for fashion. At the at the For Joseph’s Chic Holiday Soiree to benefit the MS Society, Jessica looked stunning and sexy with a look that managed to be simultaneously bold and restrained. Jessica brought out her beautiful baby blues with an electric blue Mara Hoffman dress which she toughened up with a vintage-looking leather jacket by For Joseph. She played up the edgy motif with an embellished Jimmy Choo fringed clutch, funky Jimmy Choo pumps, and kepy the jewelry to a minimum with a Lia Sophia cocktail ring to finish it all off. All together these pieces made for an incredible ensemble but each one individually, from the dress to the clutch, can help update your look.

LimeLife Has The Scoop On Sarah Jessica Parker’s Halston Gig!

imageIn case you haven’t heard, Sarah Jessica Parker has been named President and Chief Creative Officer of Halston and also has an equity stake in the company. Whoa, that’s a big deal! According to Sarah, “I think this is a brand new kind of business model, and it illustrates how serious I am about this position. I think it’s wonderful to feel invested in something… I tend not to just endorse something. I like feeling the stakes.” Sounds like a good plan actually. Maybe if Ungaro had made Lindsay Lohan invest in her line at the company, she would have tried a little bit harder! For all you doubters of Sarah Jessica Parker (I know you’re out there!), she understands why you’re concerned. She says, “I know I come to the company in a rather unorthodox way but I’m not the first to be president of a company without the traditional background… Others have been successful in those endeavors and I do so hope I can be as well.” To read more about SJP’s new high-stakes job and her plans for the future of the company, click over to LimeLife!

Video Style Steal: Shakira’s “Give It Up To Me”

imageI’m not embarrassed to admit that I still request “She Wolf” every time I hit the dance floor (what can I say? It’s the perfect girls-night anthem!), but Shakira is movin’ on full-steam ahead. Her latest video for the single “Give It Up To Me” is a little more collaborative (hey Lil Wayne!) and a little less… well, naked (did you see that cut-up catsuit she wore last time?). While we can go ahead and skip that whole multi-armed Statue of Liberty-inspired ensemble, her other two video outfits can easily be translated from her scantily-clad step team to real-world streetwear. After all, everyone can appreciate a good pair of flat leather boots and a cute military cap to save you from bad hair days (not like Shakira herself ever experiences any of those!). Click “See Video” to watch, then check the slideshow to see how you can tame the She-Wolf’s video vixen outfits and rock them yourself! Photo Credit: MTV.com

Ladylike Nail Art Tips From Blake Lively’s Manicurist

imageBye bye black nails and ballet slipper pink pedicures- those nail colors just seem plain old boring compared to these high impact nails! With Valentine’s Day coming up, you’ll want nails that are just as sexy as the dress you plan to wear on your date. Try some sexy peek-a-boo lace nails like Blake Lively and Jennifer Lopez. I got some tips from celeb manicurist Elle for Barielle (she did both Lively’s and Lopez’s nails) on an easy way to get the look. Start with dry, clean nails, and then brush on a coat of Gel Resin like IBD 5-Second Brush-on Gel Resin (available at most beauty supply stores). Attach a thin piece of lace (you can buy this from fabric stores) or get crafty by using scraps from an old vintage slip. Spray with Glue Dry (also available at beauty supply stores) and trim down the lace with a small pair of embroidery scissors. One last coat of Gel Resin and you lace manicure is ready to go and will last till your nails grown out or till you soak it in an acetone nail polish remover. To keep your lace mani looking fresh apply Barielle Intensive Nail Renewal Oil around cuticles daily.

Will you be rocking the lace nails this Valentine’s Day? Tell us in comments!

Coquette Presents The 2010 Golden Globes: Best Dressed!

imageI know everyone has their own top choice but to me, best dressed went to Kate Hudson. Her Marchesa strapless silk crepe gown with sculptured band bodice and bottom flared skirt was modern, architectural, and looked simply stunning on her. Paired with her Stephen Russell tassel earrings (see my earrings post here), the girl looked impeccable! Kate gets my vote, but others, like Halle Berry and Marion Cotillard, were also sheathed in jaw-dropping ensembles and sparkling accessories. Interested in seeing other stars’ red carpet ensembles?
