Miss The Oscars? Check Out Stylehive’s Academy Awards Red Carpet Roundup!

imageWhile last night’s 82nd Annual Academy Awards was definitely a big night for Kathryn Bigelow and the rest of the “Hurt Locker” crew (take that, James Cameron!), the Oscars are also always a huge night for red carpet fashion. And although the night’s main winners aren’t always the event’s best dressed to boot (they can’t have it all, can they?), Best Actress winner Sandra Bullock still managed to make my list of top dresses of the night! Her shimmery platinum Marchesa dress, paired with contrasting red lipstick and sleek straight hair, suited her perfectly and fit her like a glove (unlike Kathryn Bigelow’s, which was more like a vice — she couldn’t even breathe!). Another of my personal favorites was Miley Cyrus, strangely enough, who rocked a gorgeous champagne-colored bustier gown by Jenny Packham that had just the right amount of sparkle. And as much as I love Anna Kendrick, her flowy Elie Saab gown didn’t really knock me off my feet, and Zoe Saldana’s dress was only pretty from the waist up — what was with all those ridiculous ruffles? Take a look at the slideshow for a selection of the night’s most noteworthy looks! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Taylor, Lindsay, Or Ke$ha: Who’s The Biggest Hot Mess?

imageLadies, ladies, ladies. Since when is “trashy-chic” something to aspire to? I hate to be catty, but some of our favorite peroxide-blonde starlets have been making a name for themselves in a way that provides Christian Siriano enough material to devote an entire collection to “hot messes.” While Gossip Girl gone bad Taylor Momsen isn’t quite “drowned rat in a gutter” just yet, she’s looking more and more like Courtney Love each time she sets foot on the red carpet, and the jaded sour facial expression in cahoots with all the lingerie-inspired getups are neither flattering nor age-appropriate. Newcomer Ke$ha has purposely made looking rumpled and hungover her gimmick, and it’s certainly a “look,” but do you really want to build a career being known as a “drunk Taylor Swift”…? And then there’s Lindsay. Well, there isn’t really anything that needs to be said about Lindsay, is there? Vote below on who you think looks the most like they just rolled out of bed… and not in a sexy way. Photo Credit: PR Photos

Hot In The Hive: Lady Gaga Macbook Decal

imageWhen I first bought my Macbook a few years ago, I was surely proud to be a new Apple owner, but I was already on the prowl for accessories and add-ons to make sure mine didn’t look like every other apple-emblazoned 13″ white gadget being touted to class. While I love the little bling I’ve added to mine, it probably won’t come off without help from some serious power tools. That’s why I wish I had discovered this Lady Gaga Decal from Etsy earlier! Inspired by “The Fame” album cover (or, as some would say, the Golden Age of Gaga), the vinyl decal can be customized to fit the size of your Macbook and created in your favorite color. Plus, what better way to make your laptop stand out than with a little Gaga flavor? Unless, of course, all the kids have them by now; it’s been awhile since I’ve set foot in a lecture hall…

Price: $12.99
Who Found It: xgalexy was the first to add the Lady GaGa Macbook Decal to the Hive.

Video Style Steal: Rihanna Busts Out Some Jamaican Flavor & Bold Prints For “Rude Boy”

imageRihanna isn’t a newcomer when it comes to pushing the envelope on the fashion scene, but while she has undoubtedly become a style icon over the years, she’s also pretty much the only person who could plausibly pull off those crazy outfits. I mean, she’s nearly always fierce, especially in her videos, but imagine what would happen if you tried matching her piece for piece — from the cockatoo-inspired bouffant of her current ‘do all the way down to her platforms that are always about 1/4-inch away from screaming “lady of the night.” If what you’re picturing looks ridiculously cool, then by all means, work it! However, when looking for inspiration from her latest video for “Rude Boy,” I’ll opt to tone it down just a smidge, with peep-toe lace-ups in place of those OTK Louboutin combat boots and a tiered ruffle dress instead of hers made from recycled vinyl records! Watch the video to see her wild island-inspired costumes, then check out the slideshow for some pieces that are appropriately Rihanna-esque!

Who Was Most Fashionable At The Elle Style Awards?

imageAt the annual Elle Style Awards, which took place last Monday in London, we were expecting plenty of famous faces — both in the guest list and the guests’ labels. After all, with a name like Elle and a night dedicated to a subject like style, you can’t help but expect nothing but fashion’s finest. We certainly weren’t disappointed in that respect, as the red carpet boasted the likes of Claire Danes, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, and other beautiful style icons from all over the globe. While some of the get-ups looked worthy of Lady GaGa’s next award show appearance, others played it safe yet sexy, providing a red carpet parade full of variety. Alexa Chung looked like her usual elegant yet I-just-rolled-out-of-bed self in a blue Chanel dress and messy ponytail, and Best Actress nominee Carey Mulligan was quirky in a belted top and knee-length skirt. As a pair, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen looked fashionably yin-and-yang in contrasting tulle-covered gowns, while Kristen Stewart gave off her signature awkward vibe despite the sexiness of her Pucci minidress. Vote below on which celebrity stylista really pulled out all the stops! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Limelife Can’t Wait For The Jean Paul Gaultier/Target Design Collaboration!

imageWhat’s one thing we live for? Target’s design collaborations! And now that Jean Paul Gaultier is coming out with a line for Target, all our dreams could be coming true. We never thought we would hear Jean Paul Gaultier and affordable in the same sentence, but it’s actually happening. Lots of the pieces in the collection look to be a little out there, which is exactly what we expect from Jean Paul Gaultier. And they’re still totally wearable, with a bunch of more down to Earth, for everyone, pieces. According to Gaultier, “My collection with Target pays homage to the wide range of personalities that make up the diverse styles of American women… From ingenue to rock ‘n’ roll, this collection celebrates women of all ages and a host of distinctive, iconic American styles.” The preview of the dresses I’ve seen for the Jean Paul Gaultier collection are absolutely stunning. I want all of them and they can be mine for less than $59.99, most of them for much less (like $34.99). But what I love most about the Gaultier collection the way the pieces can be paired together in so many different ways. I keep imagining purchasing the whole collection and having enough full outfits for the rest of my life (or a year at least). The khaki striped trench coat is to die for, and is only $59.99. It will definitely be a spring-time wardrobe staple. Do you get excited about Target’s designer collaborations? Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection is set to be available at Target on March 7 and i have a feeling it’s going to be selling out fast!

Video Style Steal: Fergie Kicks Cyborg Butt In Style In “Imma Be Rocking That Body”

imageThe Black Eyed Peas are known for being stylishly “different,” whether they’re rocking matching leather ensembles on the red carpet or onstage in glow-in-the-dark getups. But their latest album “The E.N.D.” has taken on a more futuristic vibe (we’re talkin’ really fashion-forward), and the fourth single “Imma Be” is no exception. In the video (really more of a mini-feature really), the gang take on a gaggle of evil Transformers-type robots, and Fergie leads the pack in a number of scanty superhero-from-the-future-inspired outfits. While I certainly don’t have a metal-embellished body suit for you to try on (complete with a long cape and silver visor), nor do I think such an outfit is battle-ready for fighting giant robots, you can take still take a page from the BEP handbook with mirror-shiny fabrics, leather gloves, and lots of studs. Watch the video to see the spectacle (it’s a long one!) then view the slideshow for some futuristic Fergie-inspired wardrobe additions!

New York Fashion Week F/W 2010: Kardashians by bebe

imageThe Kardashian sisters made their Fashion Week debut, lending their signature flirty styles to a collaboration with Bebe. Set at Stage 37, curious fashionistas braved the snow to catch a glimpse of the clothes and of course, Kim Kardashian herself. Choosing to collaborate with party apparel expert Bebe was no surprise as their aesthetics blended seamlessly. Kim Kardashian herself sat front row wearing a hooded heather grey dress with a leather bustier from her own collection (which has already sold out!). As for the show, short and skin tight dresses in black, grey and fuchsia were dominant fixtures. The side cut-outs, low necklines, and one shoulder dresses (sometimes all on one piece!) will definitely make a sultry statement at any dance club. Other looks included boyfriend blazers and leather short shorts. For those of us who aren’t exactly blessed with Kim Kardashian’s tiny waistline, there are also some sexy wrap dresses too. Best part is, you don’t have to wait until fall to grab this collection as it’s available at Bebe now. Go quickly though, because it’s selling out fast! See the slideshow for a preview of the looks, and click over to Elle to see the entire collection!.

Andre Leon Talley Joins America’s Next Top Model

imageDuring the past 13 cycles of America’s Next Top Model, the show’s had quite the impressive array of judges. Now it’s time to add Andre Leon Talley, editor-at-large of American Vogue, to the list. Before the show became a household name, Tyra Banks pitched the idea to Talley over lunch and asked him to join. Talley declined. “At that point, I said no because it was the beginning. I was thinking I wanted to see where it goes,” he said. With the 14th season about to start, Talley has agreed to join the judging panel for three cycles. What made him change his mind? “I felt maybe I could contribute something to it that had not been on the show. I just felt that it was a way to step out of the box and associate myself with a very important American success story, a very important brand – Tyra Banks,” he said. Talley and Banks were first introduced backstage during a Yves Saint Laurent show; Banks was just 16 years old. Although Talley had never seen an episode of the show, he wasn’t reluctant to take on the responsibility. Fortunately, Anna Wintour didn’t seem to mind Talley’s new gig either. When asked for a comment, her spokesman told WWD, “Andre is always onto new things on television, and I think his latest adventure sounds like a lot of fun and I look forward to watching him on the program.”

Video Style Steal: Taylor Swift’s “Our Song” Is A Cute V-Day Throwback!

imageTaylor Swift may be the current reigning Queen of the Grammys, but since I’ve been in the nostalgic mood, I have to say I miss the old Taylor. Of course, by “old” I mean only a couple years ago, but a small passage of time can do wonders in turning a guitar-strumming Nashville gal into a multi-platinum superstar. Back in her “Our Song” days, she was still the gorgeous yet endearingly humble Cinderella next-door, but had a little more of that hopeless romantic flair that I guess you start to lose after a Jonas brother dumps you over the phone. In one of her first videos ever, she Taylor-izes the classic Audrey Hepburn-style LBD with cowgirl boots and fingerless gloves, creating a look that’s both down-to-earth and date-ready at the same time (Valentine’s Day, anyone?). Watch the video for a little “retro” Swifty, then look through the slideshow to see how you can cop her cowgirl-gone-glam look! Photo Credit: Vh1.com
