Lily Allen Shows Off Chanel’s Coco Cocoon Collection

imageFor Fall/Winter 2009 Chanel is introducing the new Coco Cocoon Collection, a line of casual handbags and accessories made out of washed lambskin or quilted nylon. The puffy reversible bags reveal the signature quilted Chanel pattern when turned inside out. Combining style with practicality, “Coco Cocoon” handbags smoothly transition from everyday city life to relaxing weekend getaways. The line includes a range of handbags, travel bags and small leathergoods. Lily Allen, portrayed as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, is the face of the collection, and I have to say, the ads almost tempt me to splurge on the sleeping bag lookalikes! Don’t forget to check out ShopDiary for other news on the season’s new releases!

MCM Launches New York Collection At New York Fashion Week

imageIt was a glittery scene that only a luxury pairing such as MCM and Saks Fifth Avenue could draw when the iconic leather goods brand launched its New York collection at the upscale retailer’s Fifth Avenue flagship store during fashion week. Talk about stars upon stars: I spotted everyone from models (Lydia Hearst) to fashion bigwigs (Fern Mallis) to socialites (Ann Dexter-Jones, otherwise known as mom to Charlotte, Mark, and Samantha Ronson) milling about, not to mention the gorgeous handbags from the collection displayed around the room. MCM, which gained a huge following in the label-loving ’80s, has re-branded itself somewhat and evolved from its signature, logo-heavy bags to pieces that are more subtle and focused on craftsmanship rather than flash. And they’ve succeeded: they’re made from the softest, “like buttah” leather that already feels broken-in, coupled with simple, quality stitching and understated hardware. When I wasn’t gawking over the bags, I spent time chatting up a few folks, like designer (and Kanye West’s former fiancee), Alexis Phifer. She dished that she’s actually got a new line coming out in early 2010, this one a bit edgier and with more of a rocker-chic feel to it (and will include denim). No name for the label yet but more news to come towards the new year. Definitely one to look out for — and you heard it here in the Hive first! Check the slideshow for a few of the party pics!

Spotted In Hawaii: Anteprima Hello Kitty Wirebag

imageWhile on vacation in Oahu, I spotted this cute Hello Kitty wirebag from the Anteprima store in the Royal Hawaiian Center. It’s not my style but being that Anteprima doesn’t have stores in mainland USA, I was quite curious about their Wirebag. According to Anteprima, Wirebag is “hand-knitted by skilled craftsman using exclusive wire from Italy” and features a “stretchable and flexible bag shape which can be shaped or resume to original.” The Hello Kitty bags are limited edition and exclusive to the Oahu stores and are encrusted with Swarovski crystals. The “Brillante Kitty” Boston wirebag in Nero Opaco (black) is $868 (small) and $2210 (large). The Orogento (gold) bag is $961 (small). Pretty pricey, but a great addition to any couture Kitty collection!

Harajuku Lovers Makeup Cases For Your Fatal Attraction To Cuteness

imageHarajuku Lovers has adorable nylon and canvas makeup bags that have the ultimate “awww” factor. From travel bags to brush cases, these super cute bags are the perfect accessory to hold makeup and toiletries. They are easy to clean and fit perfectly into any purse or travel bag, small or large. My favorite is the Summer of Lovers Bag Collection. I also adore the I Love Ice Cream line and the Preppies bags, made especially for anyone with a preppy streak and a “fatal attraction to cuteness.” I might just have to get my hands on a travel bag for my trip to Hawaii next month! Exclusively sold at Sephora, the collections are priced from $20 for a brush case to $48 for a travel bag. Check out Shopdiary.com for more adorable accessory must-haves!

Introducing: Olivia Harris by Gryson Handbags

imageWho wouldn’t love having a hand crafted, high-end Italian leather bag with awesome hardware and practical but cool silhouettes? I know I would! Gryson has been making those exact bags for a few years now and the only problem is that pesky $900+ price tag. Good thing she now has a sister line with more reasonable prices! The line Olivia Harris (named after her daughter) offers some of the same cool designs and buttery Italian leather for hundreds less. You can get her usual super-convenient large satchels and cool clutches, but my favorite has to be the small ball bag. It combines quirkiness (its small size) and practicality (its long strap). All the bags are priced between $225 to $575 and available at saksfifthavenue.com and piperlime.com. Check out the slideshow to see the styles!

Hot In The Hive: Rick Owens x Eastpak DRKSHDW Collection

imageLong ago, I resigned myself to the fact that I’d never own anything by Rick Owens. Leather jackets priced in the area of my rent just aren’t going to happen, even if they’re supposedly comfortable enough to live in. Not buying it, literally. So back when news broke of an upcoming Rick Owens/Eastpak collaboration, I was definitely curious, even though 1) I was more of a Jansport kid and 2) I have no use for a backpack. Fast forward to now, where the much anticipated bags are available on Oki-Ni. Consisting of sleek backpacks, computer sleeves, and duffels, the collection is pure minimalism, which is what you’d expect from bags designed by a label known for its high-end essentials. It’s all in the details- instead of traditional seams, the bags are produced with a revolutionary welding technology that gives them a luxurious, uninterrupted look and feel. Basically, we’re saying don’t drag these on the pavement or leave your lunch leftovers in them overnight…

Price: $113 to $292
Who Found It: lisannebee was first to add the Rick Owens/Eastpak collection to the Hive.

Handbag To Crave: Tod’s D-Bag Bauletto

imageThere’s something alluring about Tod’s redesigned D-Bag for fall. First launched in 1997 and carried by Princess Diana, the D-Bag Bauletto is a classic handbag must have. Its rich leather design with contrast stitching has two top handles and an adjustable messenger strap. The ubiquituous Tod’s oval logo is missing here and that’s a good thing. Its simplicity and understated luxury will stand the test of time and trends. $1,445 and already sold out at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Coquette Will Attend Fashion’s Night Out At Coach!

imageI’m really excited that I’ll be a special guest of Coach attending their Fashion’s Night Out event on Thursday, September 10th at the Coach Flagship store at 595 Madison Avenue. Coach is hosting a one-of-a-kind fete that will feature famed graffiti artist Pesu and whimsical, Brooklyn-based illustrator Kiersten Essenpreis, creating completely customized and off-the-cuff creations! Both artists will be using Coach’s limited edition Fashion’s Night Out tote as their canvas and will be in store from 7pm until 10pm, with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres served. I can’t wait to see these artists work their magic on the totes! Don’t forget to check back at Coquette for my report of the evening!
