The Elegant Simplicity Of Growing Plants

Like many, I tend to bury my green-thumb aspirations because I don’t have the time or the expertise to manage houseplants. I was looking for tools that could help people like me grow more than just those good-luck bamboo plants when I found the OPUS GARTEN. Michael Good, the man behind the successful Kickstarter BIGrootcup Campaign is out with this new line of indoor gardening products that promise to make indoor gardening fun and easy. Let’s look at in-depth.

Designer: Micheal Good of good3studio [ Buy it Here ]

I agree with Good that indoor gardening should be a fun process and if we add a dash of aesthetic creation, then I guess we have a winner! With the OPUS GARTEN launch line, Good has brought forth three products; all of which are included in the IndoorGardenKit: The OPUS GARTEN WallPlanter, PottingTray and Handworktoy.

OPUS GARTEN WallPlanter

The WallPlanter is as easy to hang as a picture. It’s held in place with the help of a marine grade cord and die-cast aluminum hardware, which makes for a very clean installation.

  • Plants are potted in an insert that has weeping holes in the bottom, that can help to drain soil, or wick up moisture.
  • The outer housing is completely water proof, WallPlanter won’t drip, sweat or mold.

PottingTray

To keep the entire setup clean, the Potting Tray comes into action. It protects tables and counters when taking on indoor gardening projects.

  • A lip surrounds the durable flexible tray to capture spills.
  • Easy to clean in a sink and it’s dishwasher safe.

Handworktoy

A set of handtools that are inspired by Japanese classics with size and material suitable for indoor use. Included in the the kit are:

  • A versatile hori-hori whichi is a big help with repotting plants, breaking up soil and planting cuttings.
  • Tweezer helps to grab rotten or prickly material; think french manicure!.
  • Soil scoop is the right size to reach into a bag of potting soil and very comfortable to hold. A flattened opening edge prevents the scoop from rolling.

OPUS GARTEN IndoorGardenKit by good3studio is a novel indoor gardening set. It’s the kind I’d use for its simplicity and aesthetic approach. The line is easy on the eye and functional. Get your kit here today.

The Dry Wave

The Wave Dry is an innovative concept that looks at drying clothes faster and in a cost-effective way. It basically is this solar device that can be charged via the windows of the house. The soaked up solar goodness is used to power the drying UV lights and hot air. Although it looks to be a bit bulky for now, I think a couple of refinements down the line, this idea can do some great good!

New Kinda Spy Cam

The Zipper is a flying indoor camera and recording device that can be used in a number of scenarios. The device uses the principle of gas balloons and combines it with the wit of propellers driven by a precision electric motor. Basically the hovering camera moves around a room very fast and silently and doesn’t consume much energy.

Application fields:

  • Film productions: unrestricted camera work
  • Surveillance: flexible monitoring of public locations like department stores, train stations, etc.
  • Security: video inspection in hard to access places like cable chutes and sewers
  • Private: webcam, babysitting, etc. or as a toy
  • Further recording options (sound, heat and radio activity) are possible with the matching sensors

Two precision electric motors with propellers that are controlled via a processor allow horizontal movements. The alignment angle of the electric motors can also be controlled magnetically via the processor so that the Zipper is able to change its height flexibly and fast with these motors. The camera can be panned by 270 degrees, which allows different perspective also in standstill. Zipper can design recordings through different camera perspectives very dynamically and flexibly, which results in completely new possibilities in camera work. This means that the director can determine the motion path and speed of the camera beforehand three-dimensionally without having to deal with any restrictions or obstacles in the room. This allows novel and free design when changing scenes and perspectives. The motion path and speed can be set either beforehand in a 3D program or in realtime and interactively via joystick or remote control. The recorded images and further information are transmitted parallel, directly and wireless to other devices like computers or smartphones.

Function mode:

Zipper uses hydrogen as gas in order to float in the air like a balloon. The required gas quantity is controlled exactly via a processor using measurement and control technology so that the Zipper is always located at the desired height.

Water Electrolysis:

A charging station supplies the Zipper with energy and hydrogen. In doing so, water molecules are split into oxygen and hydrogen by means of electrolysis. The additionally generated oxygen is released into the air and ensures a good room climate. The charging station is supplied via low-voltage direct current and must only be refilled with water occasionally.

Zipper is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.

Gates

Romain Lagrange’s beautifully crafted set for indoor croquet

RomainLagrange_Gates_1.jpg

Nearly 300 years after King Louis XIV of France banned the game of croquet because it couldn’t be played during winter, French-born designer Romain Lagrange brings the royal pass-time inside from the fields with Gates. This simplified interior adaptation neatly bundles two mallets, six gates and two stakes in one clean, portable package. And although it’s been around the web as of recent we love the beautiful combination of wood, cork and leather and wanted to share in case you missed it.

RomainLagrange_Gates_2.jpg RomainLagrange_Gates_3.jpg

All materials used were specifically chosen to realize the project in its ideal form, as Lagrange told CH, “the cork absorbs the blows and will not damage the floor of the house, while the resistance of the leather elevates all parts of the game.” When asked about their aesthetic properties he explained that the uniquely beautiful grain of Maple made it a perfect fit for all pieces in the game. Adding that the wood’s sturdy weight was key in designing the gate’s unique shape as well—as to keep it upright even after being hit with the ball.

For those outdoor devotes that fear the physical experience may be lost by playing indoors Lagrange swears the sound produced when the ball hits the gates is something unique to the materials that cannot be imitated elsewhere. This, combined with the expert combination of essential materials is sure to bring croquet inside from the depths of dark garages everywhere.

Although not if full production yet, Lagrange is currently in negotiations to bring this gem to the masses soon. For now head over to his personal site to learn more about Gates and other projects.
