NYFW – Elie Tahari F/W 2011

imageLacy, sheer, gothic romance. For Elie Tahari’s Fall/ Winter 2011 collection, it was all about luxury and drama with flowing layers of chiffon, peek-a-boo lace and high, stiff necklines.

Silhouettes of free-flowing fluid fabrics were seen in dresses and wide leg trousers and balanced out with form-fitting, intricate lace bodices.

From gauzy layers to equestrian inspired looks, Elie Tahari took classic fall and winter colors of browns and taupes, dramatic black and luxe white and infused them with a great eye for detail. Perfect draping and flattering bias cuts, plus fur trim, leather and subtle leopard prints gave the collection it’s edge.

Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment Looks for Permanent Home to House Video Game Collection

While the Smithsonian‘s American Art Museum might be
“>planning a sure-to-be-popular exhibit for next year about the art of video game
s, a group in San Francisco is attempting to build an entire museum around the subject. The Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment has recently been established with the intent of collecting pieces of digital works of art and video games and exhibiting them as a traditional, brick and mortar museum in the Bay Area (here’s their full mission statement). While they’ve received non-profit status and have assembled a large, impressive collection, the trick is now finding a space to house it in. They’ve launched a Kickstarter page, and are already nearly $8,000 into their $20,000 goal, which if they’re given, they’ll put to use for “rent and utilities associated with a ~1000 sq ft space near BART for 6 months to a year, depending on the rent we find. Additional funds will keep the space open longer.” Once you’ve sent them some cash, if you’re on the hunt for a way to break into the museum world, they’re also looking to fill a number of positions, all the way up to Chief Curator and Director of Marketing. Might sound a bit risky, the MADE doesn’t even have a location yet, but hey, even the Met and the Guggenheim started from scratch, right?

Meet the iPhone’s newest heroes: Poto and Cabenga

Poto & Cabenga – a man and his horse – are the two heroes of a new iPod app game (just launched today) that features the charming illustration work of Richard Hogg

The idea and the game play is simple, yet challenging… just by tapping the screen you can make the characters jump, either to hit point-scoring targets or to avoid angry hedgehogs, giant caterpillary things and angry boars. But within a minute of playing, the two characters become separated and you have to control both characters at the same time. Tap the screen, they both jump… but will our two heroes ever be reunited?.

Poto & Cabenga is a collaboration between artist Richard Hogg and game developers Honeyslug. Originally made last year for the Gamma 4 one-button competition, it was one of the 6 winning games and was showcased at Games Developers Conference 2010.

It launched at midnight last night on Apple’s App Store. To find out more and to get the app, visit potoandcabenga.com

NYFW – Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2011

imageThe queen of prints and the wrap dress, Diane von Furstenberg didn’t disappoint those looking for full-fledged fashion and glamour at the DVF Fall 2011 Runway Show. Fall continues spring’s theme of vibrant color and her mix of reds, blues, and greens give a wonderful pop in a sea of black.

Her gauchos are still the talk of fashion week. DVF started the show sexy with black as a key color. The gauchos paired with tall boots is going to be a fall favorite of mine!

After 10 Year Battle, Steve Jobs Begins Demolition of Historic Home

A decade-old battle has finally come to an end this week, resulting in tech guru Steve Jobs landing in even lower esteem within some preservation and restoration communities. You might recall that last fall, the Apple CEO finally won his court battle over the home he had purchased back in 1984, located in Woodside, California. Jobs had originally purchased the property with the intent of demolishing the house, constructed in 1925 and designed by George Washington Smith. Preservationists stepped in once he had started making plans to have it razed and their legal actions held up the plans (very heavily over the past six years), until the aforementioned decision was made by a judge this past September which gave Jobs the go-ahead. This week a wrecking ball brought the house down, and it’s suspected that the tear down is well underway. Friends of the Jackling House, also known as Uphold Our Heritage, the group who had fought Jobs for all those years, with help from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, issued a very somber series of statements on their site upon learning the news, highlighting in bullet points their distaste for the man and his actions. “Jobs does demolition because brains, billions and some Buddhism don’t buy wisdom or even basic respect for others,” reads one of their notes. Once the original house is completely removed, it’s believed that Jobs will construct an $8.45 million dollar home in its place, designed by the same firm who designed Apple’s Fifth Avenue store in New York and has a history of building in the neighborhood, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson.
