We live in a society that celebrates individualism and encourages people to be unique and think outside of the box. We strive to be different, and to set ourselves apart from the rest of society. What about those who never really fit in anywhere? Friends with everyone, but not really friends with anyone. Those whose ideas might be a little out there and their fashion a little “avant-garde”, and are generally beautiful and interesting people but just a little misunderstood? Allison Wells, jewelry designer at Papersnake, has designed a necklace for the “black sheep” out there who are a little strange and loving it a lot! Papersnake offers a “Black-Sheep Necklace” that features a flock of white sheep on a chain with a single black sheep dangling from the center. It’s the perfect accessory to show how wonderfully unique you are, or give it as a original gift to that special someone that you love but just don’t quite understand. Price: $110 |

Cute bathing suit? Check. Sunscreen? Check. Awesomely colorful beach bag? Hmm… maybe not yet. Well, Roxy is here to save the day with its cleverly named bag, Dandy Lion. The bag is made of durable cotton canvas, and its wide platform bottom makes storing your large beach towels a breeze. It has a back wall zip pocket and a slip pocket for your small items (so your cell phone and iPod don’t get lost in the shuffle) and a magnetic snap closure to keep everything secure. The bag is lightweight and big enough to carry your sunglasses, wallet, change of clothing, and all your other beach essentials (like, I don’t know, snacks?). Personally, I’m all about the animal print bag in black. It’s bright, striking, and screams “have fun with fashion ” It also screams “don’t worry about spilling sunscreen/margaritas all over me, because I’m totally affordable and you can throw me right into the washing machine.” More great beach days, here I come! At the start of this month, we reported on coffee chain Starbucks‘ decision to start a massive redesign program among many of their company-owned stores. Their plan was to make everything LEED-certified while simultaneously attempting to break away from the sterile, every-store-looks-the-same concept that had served them for the past decade of explosive growth. PSFK popped in when their first new store just opened in New York, called 15th Avenue E, which is almost completely devoid of any mention of being a Starbucks, save for the very bizarre sign on the door “Inspired by Starbucks” (if you’re trying to start anew or look like an independent, why on earth would you write such a thing?). While they’re nice looking digs, it certainly feels like a “if you can’t beat ’em, swipe their look and join ’em” type of move. PSFK returned to the scene just yesterday with this interview with Liz Muller, the woman in charge of the sneaky “Inspired by” project, and who says there are plans for more to come, while they test out what direction they want to go in with this big redesign.
