Workspace of the Week: His and her shared office

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Jake and Lindsay’s shared office space:

I especially liked this office because we get to see it in action. It’s nice to see how people use the space, and to be reminded that these are actually places where work is accomplished. I also enjoyed the colorful bulletin boards above Lindsay’s desk, the pen storage containers, and the task lighting (which I assume is usually pointed at the task, not the bulletin board). Jake’s custom shelf for his monitor is a great touch for raising the monitor up off the work surface and providing additional storage and use space beneath it. It’s nice that both desks include the Expedit bookshelves from Ikea, so each worker has his and her matching storage. Thank you, Jake and Lindsay, for sharing your offices with us.

Workspace of the Week: Glorious green

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Substrata Studio’s wonderful workspace:

I like this desk setup because it has ample storage, a significant amount of clear work surface where Substrata can spread out materials if necessary, and that the area under the monitor is used for things he regularly needs. I also love the happy green walls, which are an uncommon color for an office. Be sure to check out other images in the Flickr pool (an alternate standing desk! a listening station!). Thank you, Substrata, for submitting your workspace to our collection.

Workspace of the Week: Purrrrfect setup

This week’s Workspace of the Week is LauraCone’s workspace at home:

This is one of the most adorable little offices I have ever seen. First of all, the artwork makes me smile immensely. The addition of what appears to be the cat’s paw print in plaster hanging below the kitty painting made me even more happy. A key to productivity is having a positive work environment, and this definitely exists here. Looking at these fun pieces while I worked would be so much fun. Second, I like the picture frame on the left that has cork board in it. This is such a stylish way to keep from sticking notes to your monitor or have them strewn about the desk. Finally, I like the narrowness of the desk (which can be better viewed in the adjacent image), which perfectly fits the needs and the space of its user. Thank you, LauraCone, for your wonderful submission to our Flickr pool.

Workspace of the Week: Duo designed

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Simplicity Bliss’ double desks:

There are a number of wonderful items about this workspace. I really like the curtain that separates the office from the rest of the room. This definition of space doesn’t hide the office, but rather acknowledge that work happens behind it and not necessarily in the entire rest of the room. The cable bundling system, which you can see better in this image, is beautifully done along the baseboards. And, I really like the shelves that face his book’s outward so their covers can provide inspiration (something spines of books aren’t so great at doing). Thank you, Simplicity Bliss, for sharing your workspace with us.

Workspace of the Week: Picture perfect

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Paul’s minimalist home office:

Photographer and designer Paul transformed an upstairs open area of his home into an unclutterer’s dream office. The streamlined office is organized, well lit, and clutter free. The cable management on the desk is also beautifully done. Be sure to check out the additional images in the series: 1, 2, 3, and 4. Thank you, Paul, for your beautiful submission to our Flickr pool.

Workspace of the Week: Standing desk in a cubicle

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Jeffrey Abbott’s reconfigured cube:

Research abounds that sitting all day isn’t good for your health. As a result, a lot of desk workers are incorporating standing desks into either part or all of their workspaces. In this week’s featured workspace, Jeffrey Abbot has transformed his cubicle desk into a standing desk with the help of a homemade riser.

I’m sticking with my traditional desk and simply making sure I get up at least once each hour and move around the office. If you’ve been thinking about a standing desk, though, but didn’t know how to make it happen in your workspace, maybe Jeffrey’s uncluttered standing hack could work for you?

Workspace of the Week: Mint condition modern

This week’s Workspace of the Week is John Megadeth’s home office:

Organized is not synonymous with new, and this week’s workspace is a perfect example of how older furniture can continue to work perfectly in the present. Using a desk from the middle of last century, John Megadeth has achieved a wonderful, stylistic look for his home office (and not a cable in sight!).

From the photo’s description:

The makeover began last summer with the purchase of the mighty tanker desk. With this piece, I began to really get into mid-century industrial furniture. With the addition of an awesome desk lamp (which we searched high and low for), and a great desk chair with matching side chair, the office is coming together well.

Unlike many of the people whose work spaces I see, I am not a computer programer. I’m a Technical Writer for a major-US airline here in North Texas, but I (unfortunately) don’t need to work from home. Our computer is mainly for everyday use.

Thank you, John, for such sharing your workspace with us.

Workspace of the Week: Stunning studio

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Little Luck Tree’s breathtaking creative workspace:

Not only is this space well organized, but it’s inspirational. I can imagine creating truly beautiful things in this office. There is dedicated space for storage, designing, painting, and sewing — and all of it is done in a way to encourage items be returned when they’re finished. You can read a full description on Little Luck Tree’s website. Thank you for your beautiful submission to our Flickr group.

Workspace of the Week: Sharing Star Wars

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Darth Cena’s shared home office:

Sharing an office space with someone can be difficult, and keeping it uncluttered and organized even harder. This week’s selection of Darth Cena’s office is a wonderful example of how to make it work well. In addition to having a place for everything, her husband’s side of the office has a similar rule. I also enjoy the personal touches that keep the room from feeling sterile and I absolutely adore the highly organized Star Wars action figure display case. Thank you, Darth Cena, for sharing your office space with us.

Workspace of the Week: Restricted colors create calm

This week’s Workspace of the Week is La Femme’s Mac-beautiful home office:

The sense of calm I feel looking at this desk is immense. The way the desk fits so perfectly in the nook is also very pleasing. The wireless keyboard and mouse help to keep cables to a minimum, and the restricted white and black color palate reduce visual clutter. Thank you, La Femme, for submitting your home office to our workspace pool.
