Workspace of the Week: Small living, organized office

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Callum Chapman’s bedroom/office/living space:

Living with a roommate or in a dorm or at home with your parents can be difficult for an unclutterer because your bedroom functions pretty much like a studio apartment. Therefore, when someone manages to pull off the arrangement in an extremely organized way, I am quick to give praise. Reader Callum’s bedroom/office/living space is a perfect example of doing a lot in just a little bit of room. The Expedit bookshelves from Ikea provide storage and display options. The work surface is large enough to hold all of the equipment and still have room to spread out a book or two. Also, I like that the room is full, but not overflowing or cluttered. It appears that Callum really lives in this space and uses it well. Thank you, Callum, for submitting your space to our Flickr pool.

Workspace of the Week: Freeing up floor space

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Psleda’s home office:

This workspace is nice for many reasons — I like the vertically stored laptop, the filing cabinet on wheels that expands the work surface (or slides under the desk), and the overhead storage that doesn’t eat up any floor space. In an alternate photo in the set, it also appears that there are portraits affixed to the front of the cabinets. If done well (with screws or very strong velcro), it is a good way to keep frames off the work surface but still personalizes the office. Thank you, Psleda, for submitting your office to our Flickr pool.

Workspace of the Week: Wonderful workspace

This week’s Workspace of the Week is ATypical Type A’s crisp home office:

The white background with the yellow and red accents makes this office a wonderfully decorated workspace. Additionally, the three yellow boxes and the three white baskets provide stylish but functional storage. The desk has ample storage space, the filing cabinet is easily accessible, and the bookshelf has fashionable form and function. Check out the additional five pictures of her home office in the Flickr Pool.

Workspace of the Week: Wherever you wander

This week’s Workspace of the Week is KillYourCar’s temporary workspace:

One of the nicest things about working with a laptop is you can take it wherever you want. If you want to sit at a tall table next to a bay window on a drizzling Saturday morning and do some work — you can! I don’t think I could work from this setup every day (I enjoy back support), but I’d definitely enjoy working from this spot a few mornings a week. Its simplicity is inspiring. Thank you, KillYourCar, for submitting your workspace to our Flickr pool.

Workspace of the Week: Home office haven

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Mandi’s office, her way:

The first thing that jumped out at me in Mandi’s office is the wonderful cable control. A simple cable tube groups all the cables together and reduces their visual clutter. I also like how she uses matching frames, all along one shelf, to group photographs. The coffee station located where she uses it — in her office — is also a great idea.

In the comment section to Mandi’s office image, she linked to her website, so I followed the link. On her site I found a wonderful page of free downloadable Christmas planning worksheets. If you celebrate Christmas, you should definitely check out the planning worksheets to help reduce the stress of the holiday.

Thank you, Mandi, for submitting your inspiring office to our Flickr pool.

Workspace of the Week: Working and collecting

This week’s Workspace of the Week is CLSasse’s super space:

CLSasse’s space is fun because it highlights two different collections — a cornucopia of computers and a small Superman collection. What’s impressive is that everything has a home, and everything is in its place. Additionally, it looks like all of the computers can be used without CLSasse having to sit in an awkward position. The shelving and storage perfectly fit their user’s needs. An impressive setup all around, and the two collections definitely fall within the bounds of uncluttered collections. Thank you, CLSasse, for submitting your workspace to our Flickr pool.

Workspace of the Week: New setup with old hardware

This week’s Workspace of the Week is David Bosman’s desk.

Here’s how David describes it:

New setup, with old hardware: a 2006 MacPro (+SSD) and a SSD MacBook Air (2009), paper and a pen. Barely visible on the right side, one of my most important tool: A A5 Finsbury Filofax.

We like the amount of space available for writing, which is especially important given the fact that David chooses to rely on a Filofax to keep himself organized.

Workspace of the Week: Color coordinated

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Kimba714′s happy office:

Kimba714 used a little spray paint on the shelf brackets, colorful organizing supplies, pastel wall paint, and a handful of decorative items to create a bright and cheerful small home office. In this photograph, there doesn’t appear to be a computer (unless what I think is a desk blotter is actually a closed, thin laptop), however one could easily be set up between the two candlesticks. Switching out the knobs on the desk drawers was also a nice design touch. With an office this inviting, it would be easy to be productive when taking care of the business of the home. Thank you, Kimba714, for submitting your joyful workspace to our Flickr pool.

Workspace of the Week: No-mayhem mudroom

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Michelle Smyth’s hallway mudroom:

Now that it’s fall, I’ve set near our front door the plastic tray we put snowy, wet, and muddy shoes on during the colder months. Our home doesn’t have a mudroom, but that doesn’t alleviate our need for one. As a result, I was inspired when I came across Michelle Smyth’s solution. In her photograph’s description:

This is a narrow hallway in our cottage that we’ve turned into a mudroom of sorts. The shoe racks are from Ikea and the baskets from Home Outfitters. Really inexpensive way to make the most of what would otherwise have been kind of useless space.

Michelle also shared a picture of the wall that faces the coat and shoe racks:

It’s her family’s wall of fame, which is certainly a fun way to decide where to put diplomas and awards.

And, I know this isn’t a traditional workspace, but it’s still an inspiring space … so this time I made an exception. Thank you, Michelle, for sharing your space with us.

Workspace of the Week: A room where kids can get things done

This week’s Workspace of the Week is GkCake’s homework room:

I am really impressed by GkCake’s School and Craft Room. The wonderful work surface for her children, the beautifully organized storage shelves, the amazing gift wrap station, and the parent home office in the corner make this room superbly useful. GkCake also explains in the comments that all of the furniture is from Ikea and that this extremely well-lit room is in the basement! Thank you, GkCake, for sharing this uncluttered and inspiring space with us.
