Workspace of the Week: Mondrian office

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Ujitso’s stylized home office:

Whether aware of it or not, Ujitso’s home office is a wonderful, minimalist homage to either Piet Mondrian and/or Roger Black. The simple color palette reduces visual distractions and also creates a calm environment for doing work. The shelves are a nice way to take advantage of vertical space for storage. And, the cable control with the black strip hiding them down the wall (look toward the middle of the desk) is amazing. Thank you, Ujitso, for sharing your workspace with us.

Workspace of the Week: An office with extensive storage space

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Elisabeth’s gorgeous graphic design space:

There are numerous things to love about Elisabeth’s space, but one of my favorite things is that the vast majority of storage is behind closed doors. If you have a job that requires a great amount of equipment, the equipment is likely not very attractive to have out on display. When you can put those items away (and, hopefully, you put them away in an organized manner) you reduce the number of visual distractions to bother you as you work. I also like the storage unit next to the desk that extends the work surface of the desk tops. This extension makes it easier to spread out all your necessary supplies and papers when in the process of working. Thank you, Elisabeth, for sharing your workspace with us.

Workspace of the Week: No need for a traditional living room

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Little Luck Tree’s living room transformed into a joint home office:

Her workspace:

His workspace:

Additional storage and music:

And, the seating area is set up directly across from her monitor, so the monitor can also serve as a television screen when watching movies:

There isn’t much I can say that the images don’t convey themselves. My only other comment would be that I really like to see useful spaces where people understand their needs and design their homes to meet those needs. This is a truly wonderful, vibrant space. Thank you, Little Luck Tree for your submission. More details about the room can be found on her site at http://littlelucktree.blogspot.com/2013/09/his-hers-office-space.html.

Workspace of the Week: Mid-century modern shared home workspace for parents and child

This week’s Workspace of the Week is localARC’s Steelcase desk-inspired home office for the family:

On the wall opposite the office desk is storage for equipment (like the printer) and supplies:

But then, on the wall to the left of the office desk, next to the door to the room, is this awesome kid’s coloring desk:

This office is full of clean lines and empty of clutter. It is a space where parents and children can work side-by-side and get things done. I find the space incredibly inspiring. Thank you, localARC, for sharing your space with us.

Workspace of the Week: Shipping department

This week’s Workspace of the Week is My_OCD’s standing desk:

There are so many things I love about this office setup that I am downright giddy. I’ll start with the Macbook Pro mounted to be standing height, which is genius. Workers in this space are on their feet when they’re working. I’m assuming they use the computer to mark orders as received, filled, and shipped, so it makes sense for the computer to be located next to where they are working but in a way that is suitable for their workflow. Secondly, the mount brings the computer up off the table that is used for wrapping, so it won’t easily get damaged or lost in packing materials. A really terrific idea. Third, and what made my heart swoon, are the shelves and shelves of well labeled and stored supplies in the back right section of the office photograph. There is a place for everything, and everything is in its place. When an order comes in, the people who work here know exactly where to find the items to fill the order.

Thank you, My_OCD, you and Spencer Aircraft are doing things beautifully. We truly appreciate you sharing your images with us.

Workspace of the Week: Basic and beautiful office

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Dion’s work table:

Dion’s new office setup is relaxing, expansive, and perfectly suited for his needs. The light colored wood against the dark wall gives the office a sleek, modern feel. The dark wall also makes it easier to focus on the monitor by offering no distractions and a clear view of the content on the screen. The side-by-side chairs allow for two workers to collaborate or one user to have a nice area to spread out during the midst of a work day. I also like the wireless keyboard and wireless trackpad, which reduce the number of cables on the desk and allow for greater flexibility in placement. Thank you, Dion, for sharing your office space with us.

Workspace of the Week: Lecture writing home workspace

This week’s Workspace of the Week is PennPal’s repurposed home office:

I have a number of praises for PennPal’s workspace, but before I delve into them I wanted to make sure everyone saw the wonderful description that accompanied the photograph in our Flickr pool:

This is where an ESL lecturer gets stuff done at home, away from the hectic classroom and the distractions of a shared office at the Uni.

I was inspired by photos of Dieter Rams home workspace and needed extra surface area for occasional co-working with my better-half. The Melltorp table is Ikea’s best lesser-known desk option. Add a flipped-over Pluggis for a monitor stand and a few candlesticks for the speakers.

I also have a phobia for visible wires.

(I’m not certain, but I think this is the inspiration PennPal used for the home office.)

I love how white is the base color, which helps a great deal with keeping distractions to a minimum. A single color of any kind could have the same effect. I also love the cable control in this office — so many items are wireless, and those with wires have them culled with hooks on the back lip of the table. The speaker stands are ingenious. There are so many things to be inspired by in this office; thank you, PennPal, for sharing your space with us.

Workspace of the Week: Expanding a desk top with additional office furniture

This week’s Workspace of the Week is My_OCD’s comfortable Ikea setup:

I really like the way this arrangement of furniture incorporates the top of the filing cabinet and the entirety of the bookshelf into the workspace of the desk. I can imagine My_OCD takes advantage of these additional surfaces when in the heart of a work project. Having a place for a drink that is off to the side but still easy to grab is nice, too, and likely keeps spills to a minimum. The layout of the equipment is well done, and I like how the subwoofer is in one of the bookshelf cubbies instead of on the floor under the desk. It could be easy to get some cable clips and put them on the back of the shelves to run cables through, but if the cables aren’t bothering My_OCD it’s certainly not a big deal. Thank you, My_OCD, for sharing your workspace with us.

Workspace of the Week: Colombian creativity

This week’s Workspace of the Week is NomadJim’s office with a mountain view:

In theory, when you telecommute for work you can do so from anywhere. I imagine working from my bed or even on my living room couch. NomadJim imagines places much more glamorous and telecommutes from workspaces with amazing and inspiring views in warm climates. This terrace that he has commandeered as his workspace is in San Jeronimo, Antioquia, Colombia.

This isn’t the first time we’ve featured NomadJim on Unclutterer. In 2010, we showcased his outdoor tropical retreat office. Then, in 2012, we highlighted his actual corporate office space. His corporate space was terrific, but this view and climate are even more desirable. Such a perfect place to set up a laptop and get some work done.

Thank you, NomadJim, for sharing your inspiring location with us.

Workspace of the Week: A comfortable place to work

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Cristina’s clean and streamlined home office:

There are numerous things I like about this office, but I think my favorite piece is the storage container for the action figures in the second photograph. Having a designated place for a collection keeps it from overtaking a room and also allows it to be enjoyed. I also like the simplicity of the desk setup in the first picture. The entire office has a serenity about it that provides a wonderful location to do work. Thanks to Cristina for sharing this workspace with us.
