Barely-there Biffy

Iota is an ingenious solution that not only uses considerably less water than standard toilets, but even has a smaller physical footprint in the bathroom! The magic is in a folding mechanism that makes it just a third the size of a standard toilet! Watch it almost disappear!

The folding bowl houses a built-in U bend that disengages from the waste pipe whilst still maintaining an air tight seal. When closed in the flush position, the U bend reengages simultaneously when the cistern flushes. A current standard toilet uses 6 liters of water on ever flush while Iota only uses 2.5 liters. That’s more than 50% less!

Public Toilets in a Garden Escape

Toilet of Tomorrow

Let’s be frank— noone likes to touch a toilet! Maybe you’ve perfected the touchless-squat, but if not, then you’ll love the Drop toilet. The compact design unfolds automatically when it senses the user approach. Just get a little balance and do your business! Drop will then fold back up for containing and self cleaning!

Even a Toilet Can Be Cute

Old-school “water-closets” (those toilets with the reservoir mounted on the wall, suspended above the bowl) use gravity to force water into the bowl. While effective, they aren’t around much anymore because of the huge amount of space they require. The satirically-named Element Water Closet  applies entirely different physics to achieve the same amount of flushing power but with less water and while occupying even smaller space than conventional bowl toilets.  See how it works—>

Using a built-in elastic bladder system, water from the main pipeline enters and expands the bladder with its normal pressure. A release valve prevents the water from escaping the bladder. Once the release valve is opened, the pressured water in the bladder is automatically released into the bowl. Because this water is under pressure, there is no restriction as to the placement of the bladder, making the design as compact as possible!

Pretty Public Potty

As useful as porta-potties might be for concerts, festivals and other events, they have become a symbol of… well… just plain nastiness! We’re long overdue for a new standard of portable restroom and the FACETOCH is a step in the right direction. The mobile unit includes both men’s and women’s facilities and utilizes solar energy and water recovery to operate while also focusing on privacy and hygiene. If nothing else, the aesthetic is just a helluva lot more inviting!

Clogged Free Forever!

Hands up all those who have experienced clogged toilet bowls! Armed with a plunger I too have had to unclog the toilet and I know it’s a stinky job. This is why I really appreciate this PUSHit Toilet Seat Design! The seat itself acts like plunger and helps unclog the bowl. Totally Awesome!

PUSHit Toilet Seat Design is a 2012 iF Design Talents Entry.

A Cleaner Public Loo?

Oprah asks us to squat, Europeans provide you with a protective cover and the Japanese provide you with self-cleaning of the toilet seats. The question is; are the public toilets as clean as we deem them to be, especially when we do what Oprah says? To be really sure about its hygiene, Bluelarix Designworks has developed the CSM Automatic Toilet. It is an automatic toilet system, which can be mounted on any toilet.

The CSM lays a new paper automatically on the toilet seat before use, so that the user always knows that the seat is clean. After using the toilet, the piece of paper on the seat is flushed.
