Printing Braille!

The SimCheong Printer & Scanner concept is inspired by a Korean story and the motive behind it is very simple; making computer peripherals more accessible to the visually challenged. Basically the printer is capable of printing and scanning documents in Braille. It looks easy to operate and when supporting technology is available, I am sure it will be a great help.

Crop Pics in a Jiffy

The general norm is to go back home and touch up pictures that you have clicked using a computer. Cropic Digital Camera eliminates the step by allowing you to crop pictures and remove obtrusive background elements, right on the spot, on the camera. A dedicated button for the same lets you make the adjustments and save the perfect pic!

LG Chem’s Wire-Like Battery to Usher in a New Era of Form Factors?

0lgcablebatt2.jpg

Researchers at LG Chem, an offshoot of the South Korean electronics giant that is quietly one of the largest chemical companies in the world, have developed a battery with a whole new form factor: Wire.

Their flexible, cable-like battery is just a few millimeters in diameter, yet rugged enough to be wound into tight radii and even tied into knots. The presumed next steps in the development will be shrinking the battery; during testing researchers were able to power an iPod Nano for 10 hours, but it took a battery 25 centimeters long to do it.

Scoop-getter ExtremeTech reports that LG is shooting for mass production in 2017, and that batteries like these will eventually be able to be woven into textiles. They also write that if the cable batteries were to see mass uptake, “new form factors [for devices requiring battery power] would explode onto the market.”

And what might those new form factors look like? I’d like to see shoelaces powering some type of drying mechanism in shoes for when you inadvertently get caught in the rain. But we’re hoping you Coroflotters have got more ideas than that.

Print Picture Anywhere

The Rub View Camera is quite a clever concept. It builds up on where the Polaroid camera left off. Don’t be fooled by the slim design and packaging because beneath all that glitz is a camera capable of transferring images to a blank paper in a jiffy. The designer has not elaborated on it, but the little we know is that it works on the concept of transferring the image like how you would do screen printing on cloth. It certainly adds a kitsch element to taking pictures and sharing them.

The Rub View is a 2012 if Design Talents Entry.

BlackBerry Peer

The BlackBerry Peer is a phone intended for children. More like a lifestyle accessory, considering these young consumers are initiated to the gadget world from the word go. It features a smart camera and myPeer app that comes in handy when traveling and taking photos. It even doubles up as a GPS locator, allowing parents to keep a tab on their kids in crowded tourist spots. The Peer records videos, takes pictures and allows image editing in realtime using add-on effects. Basically, a communication device with loads of cool stuff that can be monitored by parents!
