Joola

Up your home game on scaled-down ping-pong tables from the pros

joolamidsize1.jpg joolamini1.jpg

Borrowing its name 60 years ago from veritable German sports store Jooss and its Landau location, Joola is now synonymous with ping pong and standard for multiple world championship competitions. The brand also caters to amateurs as well, offering a variety of recreational tables that will fit anywhere from a Tokyo apartment or frat house.

Joola’s Midsize and Mini tables are great for practicing your moves or holding your own mini-tournaments. If you are tight on space but still want to perfect your drop shot, the Midsize—at almost six-feet-long—offers enough surface to seriously challenge your opponent. Measuring just three feet, the Mini makes a winning choice for table tennis-obsessed urbanites or children who are just starting out.

Both the tables are regulation height and fold up for easy storage. They each sell from Joola for $220 (Midsize) or $100 (Mini).

The four piece bent-wire frame of SP-7 coffee table is held together by tension and pressure only. Therefore the possibility of combining different coloured pieces is given as well as free choice of covers for the table.

The same concept is used for the SP-7 dining table. It has 5 pieces and is bent in 12mm steel wire.

Pylone tables by Linn Kandel

Cologne 2011: industrial designer Linn Kandel exhibited these occasional tables inspired by electricity pylons at imm cologne earlier this month.

Pylone tables by Linn Kandel

Called Pylone, the pieces each have a wire frame and glass top.

Kandel designed the collection while studying at Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL).

The information below is from Kandel:

Pylône is a project inspired by the aesthetic of electric towers, the many ways their lines and structures interact with each other.

The interpretation of these constructions became a series of side tables on which tinted glass trays rest to let assembled structures appear.

They are made out of square, powder coated metal profiles.

OLA Table by AKKA

Here are some more details from AKKA:

The ola-table is an easily handled folding-table that always stands on its feet, and thus doesent get a dirty and chipped tabletop after a while. Even a fairly small lady could unfold a hundred tables at a conference without risking her health, since you dont have to turn the whole table around or so. The ola-tables looks so nice when folded that you can store it by the wall in your office or at home for an easy-accessed extra work desk. The table stacks tightly and is made of aluminum.

The Ola-table (which bears its name after the father of Petter) is designed by Petter Danielson and Oscar Ternbom at AKKA (www.akka.se), Göteborg, Sweden.

The OLA-table will be manufactured by MATERIA, a Swedish company, (materia.se) and will be launched at the Stockholm furniture fair in a few weeks.

The Trestle by Bénédicte de Lescure for La Corbeille

The Trestle by Benedicte de Lescure for La Corbeille

Designer Bénédicte de Lescure has created this concertina trestle table for French brand La Corbeille.

The glass top is supported by a wooden frame that folds out in one movement to support the top on four points in addition to the central hinge.

The Trestle by Bénédicte de Lescure for La Corbeille

Called The Trestle, the piece was launched at Maison & Objet in Paris last month.

The Trestle by Benedicte de Lescure for La Corbeille

The information that follows is from de Lescure:

What is more efficient to stand a tray? Two trestles or maybe… only one. Only one trestle is enough to stand a tray wich can be round or very long.

The Trestle by Bénédicte de Lescure for La Corbeille

Bearing spots guarantee a increased stability. Handling is easy, one move to open, another to fold it and to put away, with an efficient space’s benefit. Upper legs are used to lower part as compasses, embed hinges make the pivot.

The Trestle by Bénédicte de Lescure for La Corbeille

No waste. Colored plywood underline the obvious drawing in red, or solid oak glorifies the simplicity.

Haworth Planes Tables

planes-haworth-1.jpg planes-haworth-2.jpg

The clean, elegant design of Haworth‘s Planes table suits any modern office space, but its adjustable height capability—easily switching between sitting and standing heights—puts it ergonomic leaps ahead of similar contract furniture options. Whether using a crank or electronic mechanism (there are six options in all) to raise or lower the surface throughout the day, the award-winning table “helps prevent repetitive work injuries and reduces fatigue, ultimately contributing to increased productivity and employee retention.”

planes-haworth-4.jpg

Another handy feature, wheels make for effortless rearranging and reconfiguring, turning a work surface into a conference setting in seconds. Cables tuck away into cleverly-designed table legs, hiding them from view, and the table completely folds up for storage—both factors that keep to an overall streamlined aesthetic.

planes-table-close1.jpg planes-table-close2.jpg

Part of the Planes series, Haworth designed the entire collection to serve as the “office workhorse” for a line that easily adapts to various environments, truly adjusting to every need. Its multifunctional design illustrates the Holland, Michigan-based furniture manufacturer’s commitment to designing long-lasting furnishings, an eco-friendly attitude recently affirmed by achieving a zero percent landfill status for their recycling efforts.

The table comes in a variety of finishes and sizes, as well as with an optional green core made of 100% recycled tree fiber. It sells from dealers around the world.
