MINT Jodi Arnold Spring 2009: Creative Embroidery and the Color Nude

I’m swooning over the Spring 2009 collection of MINT Jodi Arnold featuring creative embroidery and the color nude. A shift dress ($561) is embellished with strips of ribbon that have been pleated and hand embroidered. Black chiffon lining decorates the hem of the sleeves and neckline. The ribbon embroidery wraps towards the back of the dress, along the bottom. The intricate hand embroidered work is just breath-taking! But what I love the most is this this continuing theme of the color nude with the Side Tie Mini Dress ($561) and the Cascade Dress ($418). Both dresses are modern and stunning. I love the pairing with the sandals, either silver or gray, to go in tune with the muted shade of nude. Take a peek at more pictures by clicking over to Coquette!

Style Essentials: Our Top Ten Must-Have T-Shirts!

Ask anyone what they have the most in their wardrobe (besides underwear and socks), the answer is most likely t-shirts. I recently made an inventory of my closet, and let’s just say that I don’t need to buy anymore t-shirts for a long time. Just why are t-shirts so popular? They come in all colors, styles, and fabrics from cotton jersey to bamboo. You can also find t-shirts from a variety of price points. Some can be over $100 while others can be less than your regular cup of coffee (hello, Hanes!). Most importantly of all, they’re comfortable! A lot of times, comfort doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with stylish, but I like to think of t-shirts as a blank slate. Pair a t-shirt and jeans for your everyday errands or tuck the shirt into a high-waisted skirt, add some chunky jewelry and you’re ready for a night out on the town. Here’s my list of top essential t-shirt styles everyone should have in their closet.

1. The classic crew neck: definitely a basic staple. These are the best to wear to the gym or even to work if it’s a super casual office.
2. A V-neck tee: it can bare a little more skin than crew neck shirts. I like to wear them with necklaces that rest just by the hollow of the neck.
3. A pocket t-shirt: these have a casual menswear feel, perfect for brunch with your best friends or a lazy day at the park.

Clae Spring 2009 Collection

pimg src=http://www.productdose.com/images/products/draft_5316.gif
alt= //ppAthleisure. That’s what I am an all-world level potentate of. Also what is known as the footwear movement that combines athletic comfort with classic styling, which shoe label Clae claims to be the leader of. And I sort of can give them partial claim to that. The new lineup for Sping 09 from Clae looks like they’re ready to shod your dogs for gametime. But the athleisure throne still belongs to me. No one can sweat out a TV show like I can. Nobody. Check out Clae at their a href=http://www.clae.com/website/a. Prices range from $85 to $165. I am somewhat partial to the Cousteau and the Rollins (both pictured), two guys (though one is dead) you’d love to have backing you up in your ferocious underwater battle against the mer-people./p

Reel To Real: “Clueless” Style For The Milennium

Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) endeared herself to fashionistas everywhere when she pleaded, “You don’t understand; this is an Alaia!” while held at gunpoint and forced to ruin her frock from, like, a totally important designer (so many quotables from this movie — be warned: I’m going to go there many times over). Clueless still holds up today as not just a modern classic, but also as a time capsule for mid-90’s fashion: plaid skirts, embellished jackets and cardigans, high-heeled Mary Janes, knee-highs/thigh-highs, and demure headbands. Craving a style trip down memory lane but don’t want to look like you’ve just stepped out of a Seventeen spread from 15 years ago (Ugh, as if!)? Take a look at the slideshow for a few basics from Cher, Dionne, and the gang’s looks updated for today’s way existential shopper.

Which Young Starlet Showed Off The Most Grown-Up Fashion Sense At Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards?

This past Saturday, while UCLA students begrudgingly returned to campus as spring break came to a close, their back-to-school blues were made just a little more bearable with a slew of orange carpet celebrity sightings right on campus! Nickelodeon’s 2009 Kids’ Choice Awards, which takes place annually at the school’s Pauley Pavilion, brought to Bruin territory the likes of Megan Fox, Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, and the whole High School Musical crew, among tons of other Young Hollywood appearances worthy of making any paparazzo drool. While the kids called the shots as far as who received a golden Blimp statuette and who got slimed, it was the ladies who took the cake on the carpet, looking much more like refined young women than their kiddie characters who shot them to fame. Instead of the more casual jeans-and-heels combo that stars have been known to rock at the lesser-hyped award shows geared towards kids and teens, today’s younger vixens stepped it up a notch with designer babydolls and platform sandals, showing that they can compete stylewise with even some of fashion’s most mature! Vote below on who you think looked the most fab beyond her years! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Seeing Spots: Men Can Wear Polka Dots Too!

In general, men have always been wary of prints and polka dots aren’t exactly on the top of every man’s wishlist. Personally, I am all for polka dots. They have this child-like wonder to them, but you need to be wary when it comes to donning the dots. There is no gray area when it comes to apparel with polka dots. You have to either be really subdued or go all out. If you go for the former, you need to go big or go home- like the Marc by Marc Jacobs t-shirt. For me, I like to keep my dots very understated via my accessories. A pocket square from JoS A. Bank adds a bit of whimsy to a suit, while a Band of Outsiders skinny tie gives some urban dandyism. But whatever you choose, know when to say when. Don’t dress in dots from head to toe- you don’t want to look like a giant polka dot vomited all over you. Check out the slideshow for polka dots that won’t send you to clown school.

Video Style Steal: Go GaGa Over Ladylike Interpretations Of Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face”

Whether or not you’re a fan of her futuristic, robot-like, pantsless persona, you can’t deny that Lady GaGa is an interesting character (after all, anyone who can make Perez stop talking about the Octo-Mom for a few posts has to be at least somewhat intriguing). With electro-pop hits like “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” and any of the other sound-alike tracks off her debut album The Fame, GaGa has gained a rapidly-growing following. While I certainly don’t question the appeal of her catchy beats (although I’m still trying to figure out what on Earth a “disco stick” is), I’m thoroughly convinced that her talked-all-over-town popularity is due largely in part to her bizarre outfit choices and overall “Donatella Versace in outer space” gimmick. And while we at Stylehive would never promote public indecency by encouraging you to go without pants in public, you may be surprised to see just how inspirational some of Lady GaGa’s futuristic fashion choices really are, as long as you don’t attempt a literal translation of her shiny black catsuits and hooded capes. From practical patent leather booties to a chunky cocktail ring and a simple pair of liquid leggings, you can channel the artist’s funky style (one bold piece at a time!) and still stop traffic without looking like a spaceship! Click “See Video” to watch her provocatively funky “Poker Face” vid, then check out the slideshow to see some wearable translations of her eccentric ensembles!

These are limited edition and slated to be released in Fall 2009. They come in an assortment of colors and will be just the flair you need to vault you into the style stratosphere. Vintage Fashionistas Are Seeing Spots

Some of the most recognizable polka dot outfits haven’t adorned statuesque models on fashion runways but rather a very famous two-dimensional celebrity: Miss Minerva Mouse–you know her better as Minnie. This beloved Walt Disney character often sported polka dots on her frocks and well, she got her man didn’t she? Of course, I’m not suggesting that we should start taking our fashion cues from cartoon characters, but we shouldn’t discount the power of the polka dot either. They’re a sure-fire way to stand out among this season’s sea of strong graphic prints and well, they’re just good ol’ fashioned fun! And yes, this dotted pattern was named after the polka dance, but it’s perfectly acceptable to wear the fashionable spots even if you have two left feet. Just click the slideshow and pick your favorite from this collection of vintage polka dot finds.
