Dead Meat Clothing

deadmeat-1.jpg deadmeat-1-1.jpg

Formed by Giovanni De Pol and six other young people living in Italy between Modena and Milan, Dead Meat clothing comes from a sort of Italian countryside version of a Warholian Factory with ontology as a main focus.

Seemingly more art oriented and consciously philosophical than market-driven, the resulting collection of graphics, comics, tees and other clothing reflects an intellectually pensive team focused on producing a high quality, stylish assortment of goods.

“I sell thousands of pieces of clothing and I diffuse my own personal verb. I, more or less, influence people. I don’t want to be overly serious because I really trust in what Pasolini called “The Depth of The Surface” but, you know, the world needs to follow an Idea of Equilibrium. I just would like to be a part of it,” De Pol explains.

Provocation? Narcissism? Culture? Their quest for equilibrium is subtly prevalent, expressed in their manifesto and by kitschy black-and-white drawings, collages of Kurt Cobain and Hitler printed on tees, Rorschach test-inspired military jackets, and by perfectly knitted holes and scars in pricey sweaters. Keeping the best hidden, the brand carefully prints the most artistic and experimental images on the inside of the clothes.

Dead Meat sells at an impressive roster of stores worldwide, including United Arrows in Tokyo, The Library in London and Florence’s Luisa via Roma. Prices begin around $125 for T-shirts.

Odeur Spring/Summer 2010: Light

odeur-intro.jpg

Founded in 2006 around a conceptual branding approach “seeking to broaden the opinion of what design really means,” Odeur uses “a unique scent and its molecular structure as a replacement for the traditional, word-based logotype.” The upshot, clothes fragranced with an airy, light smell comparable to CK One and a pyramid-shaped symbol, sets the tone for forward-thinking looks that, this season, incorporate subtly odd details like boat-necked and pleated tees.

odeur-spring2.jpg odeur-10.jpg

Inspired by “sun faded lines and transparent gossamer surfaces,” the Spring/Summer 2010 collection uses a washed-out palate of blues and grays in jersey, building on their last season for a series of oversize tees and deeply pleated bottoms that play to an emerging men’s silhouette. This new proportion—exaggerated tops paired with slimmer pants—works equally well for (and is perhaps inspired by) women.

Odeur sells online from Oki-Ni (which we’re excited to report now also carries P.A.M.), starting at £75. See more images after the jump.

12 Denim Dresses That Will Make You Rethink How You Wear Your Jeans!

imageI know, I know — the words “denim dress” together sounds like something out of Lisa Turtle’s “Saved By The Bell” wardrobe (and not “The New Class” either), but don’t write me off as crazy (or tragically dated) until you hear me out! You might not believe it until you see it, but denim is making its way out of its early-90s cave and back into the realm of dresses with trendy updates like exposed zippers and military accents. While a chambray shirtdress isn’t hard to imagine as modern and sophisticated, thicker fabrics and acid washes are also being made 2010-appropriate thanks to Karen Millen, Charlotte Ronson, Thakoon, and other more bargain-friendly retailers. And the best part of this trend (aside from the fact that it’s updated and totally cute) is that it combines the comfort and summer-friendly breathable nature of denim with the slightly dressier versatility of… well, a dress! And nothing has me sold faster than versatility! Check the slideshow for a selection 12 (yes, 12!) stylish denim dresses — I dare you not to be a fan!

Au Naturale Spring Beauty Trends Calls For Clean, Dewy Skin

imageFinally. spring is almost here! And as we shed the winter layers in anticipation for warmer, sunnier days ahead, don’t forget to start lightening the coverage on make up as well. Caked on powder and obvious cover up was never a good look and matte finishes are so last season. Spring is all about breezy, carefree days and the beauty of nature and all things reawakening. That’s why the new beauty trend for this spring is dewy, radiant skin and a clean, au naturale look. Glowing, clear skin is youthful and appealing and while I’m sure we’d all like to participate, some of us may be worried about still getting ample coverage while taking this ‘au naturale’ look out for a test spin. The first step is to keep skin moisturized to keep that fresh, dewy feel, like a tinted moisturizer. Cream blushes in soft pinks and translucent dusting powders complete the look and leave skin moist and radiant, but not oily looking. Click on the slideshow to see some of our favorite face care products and cosmetics that will keep you looking bright-eyed bushy tailed this spring season!

Pleasure Principle x Olaf Breuning T-Shirts

olafbreuningxpleasureprinciple.jpg olafbreuningxpleasureprinciple1.jpg

The second in a series of artist collaborations for NYC clothing brand
Pleasure Principle
, these U-neck tops draw on Swiss artist Olaf Breuning’s typically playful imagery for a two-piece unisex collection. Breuning’s graphics—two hands with faces positioned over the chest and the similarly goofy “Peeping Pervert“—make light of sex and fashion and fit perfectly with the eight-year-old label’s “spirit of dissent.”

Printed on soft white cotton, the tees run $110 a piece from Seven New York.

Top 10 Clogs That Will Make You Want to Pack Away Your Stilettos

imageWhile watching the Spring 2010 shows like Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu I noticed one thing…they were all wearing clogs. What? I had to look again; yes those are definitely clogs they are wearing. So it seems that clogs are back, and this trend has been gaining steam for a little while before it went high fashion in Paris and Milan. MK and Ashley Olsen have been wearing clogs for over a year now, and Michelle Williams was seen walking her adorable daughter, Matilda with some equally adorable clog boots by No.6. But if anyone is going to take the look and make it a trend it’s going to be Karl Lagerfeld. While the Chanel ones are drool worthy their price tag (retailing over $1,000) is a little steep for wooden shoes. So I had to look into some other options, because I can’t see this being a long lasting trend. Just to clarify these are not your basic wooden clog or leather nurses clog, and they are defiantly not those horrid colored plastic ones either! These clogs are sexy and embellished, some with heels as high as those on your favorite stilettos. There will be no need to pair them with super light wash 70’s style bell bottoms, these clogs will work best paired floaty little dresses and romantic sheer tops. Check out the SLIDESHOW for the top 10 clogs that won€™t cost you a month€™s rent.

Stylehive’s Stylescopes Say You’re Destined To Rock A Spring Scarf!

imageJust because spring has sprung, it doesn’t mean you have to swap your scarves for sunglasses and throw all your favorite past-season accessories to the wayside. Stylehive’s Stylescopes are here to say you’re destined to stay wrapped up in style, as long as you go the lightweight route and pay close attention to spring-appropriate patterns, colors, and fabrics! While scarves normally conjure up thoughts of snowstorms, stuffy wool blends, and hot cocoa by the fireplace (so not what you’re craving in the season ahead!), silk, chiffon, and gauzy versions are still totally in, no matter what the temperature. Tauruses can add some fresh color to their spring basics with this Diane von Furstenberg circle scarf, and Aries ladies will get to hang up their sequined blazer for the time-being and shine on with glittering neckwear! Curious to see what kind of springtime scarf the stars have in store for your sign? Check out the slideshow!

Number (N)ine x Converse

nine-cons-last2.jpg nine-cons-last1.jpg

As a farewell to esteemed Tokyo brand Number (N)ine, Converse recently teamed up with the now defunct label for a final covetable collaboration.

nine-cons-6.jpg nine-cons-7.jpg

The resulting asymmetrical Chuck Taylor All Star and One Star oxford-styled sneakers make a fitting end for Number (N)ine, as designer Takahiro Miyashita explains, “My childhood started with Converse.”

nine-cons-1.jpg

Takahiro tweaked the classic Converse models with an askew lace-up, a nod to the innovative 1970 Converse Odessa (a more recent version is pictured below left). Made of premium deer skin, the shag suede upper’s uneven texture lends a spackle-paint texture for a modern Boho feel.

While saying goodbye is always hard, as Takahiro eloquently states “When you’re finished changing, you’re finished”—the Converse collaboration seems a silver lining to that cloud.

The shoes drop in select stores around the world beginning 13 March 2010, including 10 Corso Como, Colette, Dover Street Market, Wood Wood, Aloha Rag, and more, for $140 a pair.

Cover Up (Just A Little) This Spring With A Lightweight Shrug!

imageDaylight Savings may be upon us, but even on those days when it stays sunny until 9 PM, it’s still not quite hot enough to make you sweat at just the thought of an extra clothing layer. You know those perfect spring nights where the temperature is still in its in-between stage… and you spend 20 minutes in front of your closet trying to decide whether or not to ditch the jacket? Enter the lightweight shrug, the spring fashionista’s savior for those awkward-weather nights. They provide just the right amount of coverage for your bare arms and shoulders without obstructing the view of your cute top. Opt for a neutral color in light jersey or a really fine sweater blend when you want a go-to you can throw on on your way out, or make a statement with the shrug itself in a bright color or flashy sequins. Take a look at the slideshow for 10 ways to cover up comfortably this spring!

Liberty of London x Target

liberty-london-last.jpg

Lending a little High Street charm to America’s beloved retail chain, Target’s collaboration with Liberty of London hits shelves nationwide this Sunday, but we had the chance to check it out yesterday at a NYC pop-up.

liberty-london-middle.jpg

The collection—reinterpreting Liberty’s limited edition Merci line for spring at a lower price point—plays to both brands’ recent successes with similar collaborations. The upshot, floral-printed apparel for men, women and kids, as well as accessories, bedding, stationery, furniture and bicycles done up in paisleys and other patterns by the centuries-old fabric company, fills the space to the brim. Along with blooming flowers (like daffodils and hydrangeas), props, and build-outs all keeping to the theme too, the shop itself has the dizzyingly gorgeous effect of a classic all-over Liberty print.

liberty-london-first.jpg

Running through 13 March 2010, the pop-up is not to be missed.

See some of the shots from our visit to the shop, as well as some photos from Refinery29, in the slideshow below.
