Hot In The Hive: Plug & Socket Rings

imageWe all remember fighting over those two-piece friendship necklaces in elementary school — you know, the ones with the heart split in half (one said “best,” the other “friend”), or the separate yin and yang necklaces that were reunited whenever you ran into each other on the playground. These Plug and Socket Rings from Artifacts by Casey put a unique spin on that childhood accessory. They’re certainly not as expected as two sides of the same heart when it comes to jewelry, but somehow they turn household electricity into something fashionably funky. Buy one for yourself and one for your equally fierce BFF, go for a “his and hers” deal, or keep them both for yourself (after all, a plug’s no good without a socket)!

Price: $180 for the plug, $150 for the socket (sold separately)
Who Found It: xgalexy was the first to add the Plug and Socket Rings to the Hive.

South Africa’s Molori Safari Lodge Is Your Dream Getaway (Literally!)

imageIn the South African language of Tswana, Molori means “to dream”. Just a visit to the Molori Safari Lodge’s Web site will whisk you away to dreamland. One on one with nature’s most majestic of savanna wildlife, the resort is an intimate, 5-suite retreat that only houses a maximum of 10-12 people within its exquisite construction, consisting most notably of a rustic-African design that also models international style you might find at a budgetless Pier 1 Imports. The two-year old resort-sponsored “game drives” make it perfect for close-encounters of the jungle-cat kind. Each regally-decked suite’s telescope (not to mention the resort’s on-site planetarium) make it perfect for uncovering your inner-Galileo. The collapsible glass wall of the suites invite your vacation to the outdoors and, quite perfectly, your personal infinity pool indoors. This place is so perfect, A-listers like Nicholas Cage, Mischa Barton, Lily Allen, Kate Moss and Fran Cutler have been among the baller-guests who shell out over $4,000 a night to stay in this dream-like paradise. Money is of no object in dreams, and South African designer Stephen Falcke spared no expense in creating the five traditionally and internationally decorated, openly constructed abodes. As if being surrounded by the rugged reserve terrain weren’t enough of an indulgence, guests enjoy some signature pieces like a Fendi daybed and a Phillip Plein swingbed in their room, and even first-class arrival options as the resort has its own airstrip and helipad. All the more, your tongue is treated to a retreat all its own with fine-dining crafted per your personal requests. On an intimacy scale, there’s something to be said about a place where you feel more camaraderie from the beasts of the safari than you do other hotel inhabitants. Molori Safari Lodge is more than a triple threat in the middle of South Africa’s brush. This main attraction brings danger and adventure alongside sexy extravagance in a way that makes even the Web browser not want to wake up from the dream!

Liberty of London x 10 Corso Como

liberty-corso1.jpg liberty-corso2.jpg

Following its recent stateside collaboration with the chain store Target, Liberty of London continues its resurgence by partnering with more alluring retailers around the world. In addition to a one-month pop-up with Parisian boutique Merci, and a four-piece handkerchief collection for Japan’s Tokyo-based department store, Isetan, Liberty’s most recent fusion is a limited edition spring/summer capsule line for the Milanese concept boutique 10 Corso Como.

The graphic-heavy 26-piece collection, available online as well as at Corso Como’s storefront and Liberty’s London flagship, includes apparel and accessories for both women and men in an updated version of Liberty’s iconic Ianthe print.

liberty-corso3.jpg liberty-corso4.jpg liberty-corso5.jpg

Corso Como’s founder and director Carla Sozzani commissioned the American artist (and a close personal friend) Kris Ruhs to reinterpret the Art Nouveau print for a decidedly more psychedelic effect than many of the classic florals gracing this spring’s collections. The resulting fresh and kaleidoscopic eyeful of swirls and teardrop shapes looks just right for warm days ahead.

Button-down shirts, dresses and ties in Italian cotton poplin, as well as swimwear and silk scarves, canvas totes and leather wallets, all come in color schemes of yellow, pink, and cream or black-and-white.

Pick it up online at Liberty of London and 10 Corso Como.

Goody Blue Shoes

Spring has officially sprung here in NYC, with blue skies on our mind and blue shoes on our feet. With shorts season just around the bend, now is a great time to find a pair of kicks that perfectly compliment your bright personality, as well as the warm weather. There’s always the go-to classics like Vans and Keds, but here are some shoes that excel both in design and style.

blue-emerica.jpg blue-nike.jpg

A step up from average classic skate shoes, these Emerica Reynolds Cruisers manage to maintain an ultra-slim, low profile silhouette without sacrificing skateboard performance and padding. A perfect shade of blue kitted out with gold eyelits makes for a killer combination. Although these are from a past season, they’re still available from Active for $60.

An appealing blue-on-blue-on-blue color scheme, these Nikes tend to look as great on the ladies (including a CH editor who wears them constantly) as they do on men. The Quickstrike release might be hard to track down, but we found a pair here for around $90.

Blue suede boots by A.P.C., need we say more? The ultimate blue suede shoes, these desert boots look as beautiful as they wear comfortably (and are another pair we own and love). The hue perfectly suits the material—bright enough to stand out but rich enough to maintain a subtle elegance. Grab them online here or from your local APC store for $330.

While blue Chuck Taylors are a Converse classic, these kick it up a notch with their preppy skate shoes. The boat style of the Sea Star ($55) thoroughly embodies the spirit of the season while the simpler CVO ($50) promotes fresh vibes all year round.

Go Sleeveless For A Sexy Spin On Shirt Dresses!

imageIt’s fun to follow the newest trends and show off all the latest fashion styles, but there’s something to be said about a tried and true classic. A classic piece is timeless, flattering and never goes out of style. One of my favorite classics is the shirt or trenchcoat dress, a piece that’s versatile, feminine, and so easy to dress up or down. While the usual shirt dress is a little on the conservative (but still totally cute) side, it’s easy to add a little bit of sophisticated sex appeal and make it spring/summer ready. Simply go sleeveless! Baring a little skin makes you look and feel easy, breezy, and classically ready for some fun in the sun! Shoe of the Week: 1971 Reiss Lolita Multirope Wedge

imageGiven the choice between a super sexy pair of stiletto heels or a wedge heel, I’d choose the wedge. Not only do wedges look a little more casual and can go with most of my wardrobe, they’re also more comfortable. Given that the wedge heel gives your feet more of a surface area to rest on rather than on a spindly spike heel, that means you can wear them throughout the day without changing into flats. Believe me, I was able to do it during the long days at New York Fashion Week! Since we’re heading into the gorgeous spring weather, it’s time to update your shoes for the occasion. I love the 1971 Reiss Lolita Multirope Wedge for the rope strap details that touches on a nautical look that comes back every summer. The pinkish cream leather is easy to coordinate with the rest of your wardrobe and the 4 inch wedge heel is enough to have you stand comfortably tall.

What: the 1971 Reiss Lolita Multirope Wedge
Price: $254

Which Star Was Most Chic In Her Minidress At The Kids’ Choice Awards?

imageThe Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, which take place every spring at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion (Go Bruins!), have always traditionally been a more casual-cute affair. You know — nice jeans, fun heels, maybe a funky jacket and some chunky jewelry to emphasize that you’re actually attending a televised event, not just a trip to the movies. After all, who wants to get slimed in a hot-off-the-runway outfit? In the past couple years, however, I couldn’t help but notice that today’s generation of rising starlets have been pulling out all the stops on the orange carpet. Designer pumps, low-cut dresses, diamond jewelry, you name it! While some teeter on the edge of age-appropriateness and others just seem to forget that it is a more casual daytime affair, they still certainly look fashionable beyond their years! Selena Gomez managed to maintain her cuteness in a Grecian-inspired yellow dress, sandals, and a messy braid, while ex-BFF Demi Lovato was her usual rocker-chic self in all black. As for the ladies who are actually of age, Nikki Reed’s tiered floral dress was springtime perfect, and Rihanna’s long-sleeved mini was surprisingly wearable compared to her usual bold choices! Vote below for who you think looked best in her minidress! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Recession Chic: Practical Spring Flats Under $100!

imageOn the perfect lazy spring day, when the last thing you want to do is be teeter around in heels all afternoon, the easy route would be to reach for a pair of flip-flops in your stash of sandals. But sometimes your trusty Havaianas don’t exactly suit the situation when you want something a little dressier than, say, rubber… yet the whole point is that you were trying to avoid the endless “which-pair-is-perfect-with-this-particular-outfit” debate and just slip something on and go already! Luckily, it can be that easy with the perfect pair of practical spring flats! The idea is to choose a pair that can go with nearly everything, while still staying on-trend with the season, making it look like you actually meticulously paired them with each item of your outfit (only we need to know that they’re your new no-brainer go-to pair for just about anything!). But practical doesn’t have to mean boring, and it doesn’t have to mean pricey either! With updated classics like slingback oxfords, or practical yet edgy hardware like studs in place of polka dots, your flats can be foolproof, versatile and stylish… all for under $100! Glitz Your Wrists With A Set Of Stacked Bangles!

imageWhen it comes to jewelry, I love the look of stacked bracelets and bangles. After all, as a girl who’s always talking with her hands (what can I say? I’m Italian!), it’s nice to have a little bling where it counts! However, while I’ve certainly collected my share of trinkets over the years, I have a hard time pairing coordinating bracelets on my own for that effortlessly layered look. The solution? Bangles that already come in a coordinating set! Either matching and intertwined like these gold CC Skye interlocking bangles, or mix-and-matched like this “Cleopatra” themed set, bangle sets practically do all the thinking for you. Just make sure you keep the rest of the jewelry to a minimum so you don’t end up looking like a gypsy drowning in a pool of glitz and glitter. Check the slideshow for some ready-to-stack bangle sets!
