Daily Obsesh – Kitty Cat Hat

imageWhat’s better? A cute kitty cat or a cute kitty cat you can wear? Our answer is obvious – a cat hat, or in this case, a hood. It’s the perfect cuddly cute accessory to wear on a cold winter’s day while out for a walk or while watching the lighting of a holiday tree. Everyone around you will be a little bit jelly of your adorable, super soft, fluffy cat hood. Slip it on, button it up … then purr.

And don’t worry. No animals were hurt in the making of this product. It’s made of vinyl and polyester, and fits most adults. Just don’t get it dirty – it’s hand wash or dry clean only.

Giuliana Rancic of E! News Shows Us How To Dress For Success

imageYou’ve got to guess that any girl who can hold her own on camera next to Ryan Seacrest is … well, she’s not just any girl. And E! News anchor, Giuliana Rancic, is far more of a powerhouse than anyone might have initially realized. The Italian bombshell is touring to promote her second book, ‘I Do, Now What’, tackling serious personal issues in the third season of her Style Network reality show Giuliana & Bill, and still makes time to appear for as the Trop50 spokeswoman for women-in-the-workplace non-profit Dress for Success.

Special contributor Lena Katz, editor of travel pop site Zingi caught up with Giuliana after a recent fundraiser, and got some excellent tips on how to stay stylish and keep your confidence levels up even when you’re strapped for time and cash.

What are three inexpensive (under $20) accessories that can take a black pants suit from ‘blah’ to sophisticated?

1. Skinny Belts: Metallics are very in right now in terms of trends, so I would suggest picking up a silver skinny belt. Silver is classy and absolutely appropriate for an interview. One tip: When you sit down for your interview, unbutton your suit jacket to show off your belt. It will add the perfect flare to your outfit while keeping it classy.

2. Double strand Necklaces: While it is important to make sure your personality shines through in an interview, you don’t want to come across as too loud. You can get a double strand of faux pearls or a simple metal double strand fairly inexpensively that will add a little pizazz to your suit, without being too over-the-top. Simple sophistication is the way to go at an interview.

3. Satchel Brief: One of the most important parts of any job interview is preparation! To really look polished, yet prepared, everything you need for your interview – resume, portfolio, cards, pens and paper – should be neatly stashed in a satchel brief. There are so many different cute styles and varieties, too! You can really have fun with this and select a bag that suits you and your personality. I guarantee you will get a ton of compliments on this accessory!

What’s a trend this season that can be incorporated into professional dress and look good?

Kitten heels, a la ‘Mad Men’, are one of the biggest trends for Spring/Summer 2011. Luckily for us ladies, they look fantastic with slacks or skirts! Plus, the lower heel is definitely appropriate for any professional environment, not to mention they are much more comfortable than the platforms heels I€™m usually wearing! I can get away with sky-high shoes on the red carpet, but in many professions, wearing too high of a heel might not go over so well.

For girls without money to spend on all the latest trends, what’s a wardrobe essential that wouldn’t necessarily be obvious, but that has worked magic for you over the years?

I absolutely love big, chunky bracelets. I have a large collection of bangles that are all very inexpensive. When I€™m in a hurry in the morning, but need to add a little punch to my look, I throw on a stack of bangles and instantly my outfit goes from an 8 to a 10!

Please give us a trick you use to boost confidence for an important job interview.

Confidence is every woman’s most important accessory. Yes, wardrobe is important, but no article of clothing is as important as exuding confidence. Applying for jobs is one of the most stressful things a person goes through and it’s easy to get in a rut and lose confidence. When I’m feeling stressed out or like I’m losing some confidence, I always find that staying active helps. Walking is an easy and affordable way to exercise, and I know from experience that it helps! It’s also important to be mindful about what you eat. I’m a big advocate of healthful eating and I am always reading nutrition labels to make sure that what I’m putting into my body is good.

Please tell us what Dress for Success is, and how you are involved, and why this charity is important.

Dress for Success is a fantastic organization that focuses on helping disadvantaged women become economically independent by providing them with professional attire, a network of support and career development tools. I’m so excited to be working with them through a partnership with Tropicana Trop50. We’re really empowering women to help each other look and feel good. In fact, right now, if you visit Tropicana’s Facebook page, share a free online gift with your girlfriends using a Facebook app and Trop50 will make a $5 donation to Dress for Success (up to $25K).
I also just spoke on panel in NYC with Joi Gordon, CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide, on tips for achieving career success. This is a topic that is hugely important to me, and, as women, I think it’s important that we support and empower each other in the workplace. You can check out some of the tips shared during the seminar – including ways you can get involved to help Dress for Success – right here!

For those of us who aren’t quite broke enough to qualify for Dress for Success, how would you suggest using the resources we have to re-invent our wardrobes (i.e. clothing swap with friends, renting dresses for special occasions, etc.)?

Yes, yes and yes! I recommend investing in a few key pieces and then adding inexpensive accessories to change things up each season. I love clothing swaps – although sometimes it’s hard for me to find things to part with – and definitely agree with borrowing dresses on special occasions, whether it’s from a friend or dress rental. Chances are your girlfriends are dying to swap for something of yours too!

The Best Red Carpet Hairstyles

imageStylehive Hair Series Powered by Pantene

While many celebs are choosing to boldly chop their locks, this week on the European Red Carpets, it was all about classic Hollywood glamour with looks that were long and luxurious.

It wasn’t the swoon-worthy international destinations (hello UK, Spain and Italy!), but rather their sleek and sexy ‘do’s that put Julianne Moore, Selita Ebanks and Kristin Davis on the map this week!

The great thing about these three show stopping styles? As glam as they look, they’re simple to achieve! Not quite a hair whizz? Alternatively, with more and more affordable ‘Blow Dry and Go’ Salons (blow outs for around $35.00!) popping up everywhere, the follicle-y challenged can be in and out in less than 40 minutes, looking like a Hollywood star!

Do It Yourself –

Kristen’s Bold Blow-Out – For this much volume, you’ll definitely need a round brush and blow-dryer to achieve the desired look. While damp, rub a small amount of volumizing serum or mousse into hair. Blow dry sections of hair, starting from the under layer and using clips to keep other sections away. Using a round brush to separate and give volume, brush outwards slowly while following with the blow dryer simultaneously. Curl the ends with a medium sized barrel. Gently style hair into desired position and finish with a few spritzes of a light hold hairspray.

Julianne’s Sleek & Simple Waves – While hair is still damp, rub in a few drops of sleeking serum and comb hair into 2 sections with the part slightly off center. Lightly blow dry and gather hair into 2-inch sections. Curl each section around a medium barrel, starting from the lower half of the hair. Do not brush though. A few spritzes of flexible hold spray and you’re out the door!

Selita’s Pretty Pullback – This is actually a look that works best when hair isn’t squeaky clean. Blow dry hair upside down, brushing through to create volume. Flip hair back and gather the top half, being sure to pull back all hair so that there’s no part, but the look isn’t too tight either. Secure with an elastic band and finish with a few spritzes of volumizing spray!

Vintage Frames Company

One of the most esteemed purveyors of classic eyewear gets an online store
bgbodycolora.jpg

To score a sunglasses fitting with the exclusive Vintage Frames Company, it wouldn’t hurt to be a hip-hop mogul or Russian princess. But now the largest distributor of its kind is offering hundreds of choice styles each month—from legendary labels like Alpina, Carrera and Silhouette—to the masses through its just-launched webshop. “The point [is] to offer a selection of frames to the public who have been dying to purchase them for the past years,” says owner Corey Shapiro.

Based in Montreal, Shapiro and his team of fashion historians search the world for deadstock designer eyewear. His warehouse has more than 150,000 mint-condition frames, spanning the 1950s to the 1980s. “Old eyewear manufacturers took time and love to produce eyewear,” explains Shapiro. “Any of the handcrafted details put into eyewear cannot be added to today’s eyewear, as those factories have long been closed.”

Nostalgia and manufacturing techniques aside, Vintage Frames has become a leader in shaping optical trends, as their reputation as a highly sought source of long-lost classic and original models has grown. “We also run a rather large division aiding today’s new eyewear designers through a historical look of eyewear, renting them all kinds of frames as production samples,” adds Shapiro.

Such tight relationships with brands makes for a pretty amazing commemorative reissue as the label celebrates its fifth anniversary this month and online grand opening with a collaboration. “We have made a very special Cazal 951, which is the first frame I ever owned in my collection,” he says. “The status of a man in a certain crowd could be judged by how deep he went into accessorizing his 951. Diamonds, snakeskin, leather, gold—all that!”

Celebs Keep It Short And Sweet

imageLong hair is versatile and fun because there are so many styles that you can try, but it takes a truly confident beauty to dare to chop her locks off. Short styles can have just as much range as long hair styles with looks from sexy and sassy, to sweet and girly.

Some of our favorite movie stars from around the globe are rocking the short, pixie cut trend and we love it on all of them? But who wears their short ‘do the best?

Brit bombshell, Keira Knightly, keeps her look sultry with long wisps of side swept bangs and a smoky eye. French beauty, Audrey Tautou, keeps her short locks fun and feminine with loose shining curls and a large, but subtle floral hair accessory. Her clean face and bold lips add to the French appeal. Newcomer, Carey Mulligan, keeps her pixie cut cute with a tousled girl-next-door vibe and a simple elastic headband. Precise eyeliner and lashes paired with pink lips and rosy cheeks further enhance the youthful and sweet vibe.

So with all these sweet and sassy short hair styles, which celeb gets your vote? Let us know by taking the poll below!

We Love That Overalls Are Back!

imageDepending on age, it was either middle school or highschool, but it seems like not too long ago that baggy denim overalls were all the rage. Light wash, dark wash, loose fit, long, short … it was all considered cool! And extra cool points if you wore them with one strap unattached! Now, overalls are making a come-back, but they’re shedding their ‘barn house’ vibe by showing up in more fitted cuts, new fabrics and a variety of colors.

With the hot jumpsuit and romper trend, it was only the natural step for us to steer style into the direction of overalls. Bold hues, short hems, skinny leg and varying style details keep the look modern (unless you want the vintage denim look, because we’ve got that too!) and many styles are a haute-hybrid of jumpsuits and overalls. Pair them with cage heels or pumps to amp up the sex appeal, or keep it casual with a loose tee and a pair of throwback Converse!
