Payday Splurge (Give Your Hostess The Mostest)!

imageHere’s something to be thankful for: You’re not the one hosting an extensive Thanksgiving dinner for family and friends (unless you are …). While Thanksgiving is a time for family and comfort food, it’s no fun to clean house, cook and host the whole thing. We’d much rather show up in a cute outfit, eat our fill and go home and sleep off the tryptophan. But that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate the friend or family member who has enough love and patience to be the gracious hostess. To show appreciation, a bottle or two of sparkling cider just might not cut it. So we’ve gathered five great items that would make wonderful hostess gifts, in varying price ranges, for you to present and show your thanks!

Calliope – Wine Lines, $6.99

Rosenthal – Medium Fast Vase, $124.00

RabLabs – Crystal Platter, $375.00

Jonathan Adler – Bird Wine Stopper, $18.00

VivaTerra – Slate Cheeseboard Set, $60.00

Recession Chic – Go For The Gold! $100 Or Less

imageMetallics are in and while silver and bronze are just as beautiful, it’s really about going for the gold this season. Eye-catching without being gaudy, gold is a surprising neutral. Like the popular nude tone trend, gold is a color that matches virtually everything. Bold and edgy when paired with black, incredibly luxe with white, and a head-turning color all on it’s own, gold is the way to go this season.

Plus, with the holidays upon us, gold is a festive color that can be as glittering or understated as you please. Gold jewelry is gorgeous, but obvious, so try out this gold trend in garments and other accessories. Look for a sequined dress to really make a statement, or add just a pop with small embellishments.

And while gold itself can get pretty pricey, gold pieces can be affordable and worn before, during and after all the holiday soirees. Afterall, what fun are the holidays if they’re gild-free? Click on the slideshow to see some fave gold picks for $100 or less!

Stylelist Shows Us – How to Wear Socks With Skirts for Fall!

imageStyle setters are saying ‘sock it to me’ this season, strutting the streets in the once-forbidden look of anklets and knee-highs paired with skirts. Designers including Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, DKNY, Marni and Cynthia Steffe are among those putting a stylish spin on socks.

‘I think a ballet flat and a sock is a really cute look’, celebrity stylist Elle Werlin, who has worked with Beyoncé and Jessica Szohr, tells StyleList. ‘It kind of has that hipster, geeky-chic vibe and can look amazing. Also, a sock and a great sandal or boot adds a youthful, trendy look to anything you already have in your closet.’

And yes, Werlin says, the socks-and-skirt look is something real women can pull off, giving a youthful twist to the season’s retro-inspired silhouettes.

‘For fall, there were a lot of A-line, ’50s-style skirts, and ankle socks with a small, 1-inch heel gave a new look to the ’50s feel’, she says. ‘The socks add a twist to a lot of inspiration from the past.’

Pact Festive Holiday Collection

Philanthropy is sexy this season with Pact’s new underwear that gives back.
pactholiday1.jpg

The new Festive Holiday Underwear Collection from Pact brings light not just to your skivvies but to those who need it most. Featuring three festive patterns designed by Yves Behar and his team at Fuseproject , with every purchase the brand donates a handheld, solar LED lantern to Haitian earthquake victims in Port Au Prince.

Over half of Port-au-Prince’s inhabitants report that they feel unsafe at night, in part a result of Haiti’s lack of streetlights and general energy scarcity. Pact’s lantern donations will increase the security of Haitian families, especially women living in the city’s more vulnerable areas.

“We could not imagine a more worthwhile cause this holiday season than helping provide access to a basic resource—like light—to the people in Haiti,” said Jason Kibbey, CEO of Pact. “The fact that a Pact underwear purchase can directly provide a family in Haiti with a solar lantern, and all the benefits light provides, is an honor.”

The Holiday Collection is the result of a partnership between Pact and the non-profit Earthspark and Citizen Effect’s Light Up Haiti Campaign.

The collection ranges from $18-$26 on their Pact’s site.

Accessorized! Which Celeb Got It Right?

imageWhen it comes to completing a look, nothing can make or break a pretty ensemble more than the accessories. Whether it’s an eye-catching statement piece, or a few demure choices, accessories are what takes the outfit from good to glamorous and what better place for our favorite celebs to show off their accessorizing skills than on the red carpet?

Songbird, Rihanna, gave her sexy silhouette a fun twist with an oversized hair accessory, a sleek gold bangle and delicate chain and pendant, that balanced out her bold red look. Model and actress, Angie Harmon, kept her look simple and elegant with a ruffled skirt and tube top and only matching nude heels and a stylishly knotted belt to help bring her look together and to show off her slim waist. Songstress, Ashlee Simpson, wowed in a slinky sequined dress and a sexy and sassy new ‘do, but it was her shoulder-grazing drop earrings that really turned heads on the red carpet.

All the ladies look gorgeous and found ways to perfectly compliment their outfits, but who do you think accessorized the best? Let us know by taking the poll below!

Cute Thanksgiving Outfits That Allow Room For Seconds!

imageThanksgiving is just around the corner and we’re all looking forward to the family time and, more importantly, the delicious and extensive Thanksgiving dinner! But while ’tis the season to indulge and seconds are a must, we don’t need to show our turkey-filled bellies off for all to see.

It’s no secret that skintight jeans or a clingy top would not be the most comfortable or flattering after your third slice of pie and that the wisest ‘cute but comfy’ Thanksgiving options would be looser fitting tops and belly-accommodating pieces.

Draped tunics and oversized tops are completely in style, while sweet, girly baby doll dresses are a classic. Leggings are sleek and flattering, or if you’re looking for something a little dressier, try a pair of jeggings or cargo leggings. Click on the slideshow to see some of our favorite looks and styles to help us look great, stay comfortable and eat our fill this Thanksgiving!

Raen Optics

Surf and skate style meets ’50s inspiration in a Southern California sunglasses brand

Raen_1.jpg

While its name may conjure cloudy weather, Raen Optics are a paean to endless summers and drop-tops—an enthusiasm made clear with their limited edition Myopia sunglasses created for surf-loving label Alexandra Cassaniti (in stores Spring ’11). Other latest styles—the Underwood (bottom left), Ryko and Squire (bottom right)—draw from “a very classic, mid-century design aesthetic.” The Squire was inspired by a photograph of James Dean in his Speedster, and all three do double duty as sleekly retro eyeglass frames.

RaenUnderwood.jpg Raen_Squire.jpg

Founded in 2008, Raen is the brainchild of a foursome bonded by an appreciation of iconic sunglasses, Justin Heit, Jeremy Heit, Micah Dunham and Jordan Percy of Libre Design, a creative agency based in Encinitas, CA. The small coastal town thrives with upstart companies springing from skate and surf culture. “[This] has a heavy influence on coastal Encinitas, and this background has certainly shaped what Raen has become and will guide us in the future,” they explain.

Each frame is handmade with select European acetates and hardware that you’d be hard-pressed to find at Raen’s wallet-friendly prices. “We are striving to create timeless pieces,” they say, designed to “be relevant for more than one or two seasons.”
