Global Warming by Banksy

Banksy Sighting

We stumbled upon new work by renowned street artist Bansky and felt the piece above was relevant given the COP15 conference that just went down earlier this month. The piece is appropriately named “I don’t believe in Global Warming”

This picture (more after the jump) is from an event curated by Italian group Petralito Rotiroti Associati (dedicated to graphic design, visual identity, editorials, graphics for exhibitions, and events). It involved five Italian street artists (BROS, ERON, IVAN, NAIS, OZMO) in a unique, experientially focused exhibition. Amazing venue too.

“The exhibit hosted by the Urban Metamorphoses section of the 2009 Creativity Festival showcases experiences rather than works of art. The project envisions five private spaces of which each artist takes possession and expresses his or her own artistic experience. The five previously unpublished works have been especially created for the exhibition and are featured in spaces where visitors can go in and listen to the narrations of each artist. The exhibition is curated by Michelangelo Petralito, Gianni De Simone, Iolanda Rotiroti and Serena Vinattieri.”

Banksy in West Africa…

A number of street art imagery found throughout Africa have surfaced on the web—particularly from one particular Flickr group that speculates that the pieces are the work of none other than Banksy. A few weeks back, we issued a post that featured the largest exhibition of Banksy’s work to date, currently on display at the Bristol Museum. You can view the image shown above, and the entire collection of the enigmatic artist’s work right here. Flickr user Olly C weighs in on his contribution to African cityscapes:

“I’ve seen this one in the flesh. Its in the suburbs of Bamako in Mali, West Africa. Banksy was there about 4-5 months ago. Sadly this has been partially painted over, Peaches Geldoff is no more and somebody has added a flower to the collection tin. There’s also a few local tags scribbled on the same wall.

There are a handful in Mali, stretching from Bamako to Timbuktu. Their locations are still unpublicised as far as I can tell.”

Neozoon is re-populating the streets of Paris and Berlin with silhouettes of animals made from recycled fur coats. This form of street art has been coined “UpCycling” — improving on the last cycle of the products life. Quite a concept. Interesting indeed….

According to PETA, about 30 percent of fur sold in the US is from wild-caught game. Once caught, the animals are kept in cramped cages, and many are poisoned before being skinned.
