imageIs it just me or the rugs I see in many of the foyers, rooms, and hallways that I encounter are either traditional Persian rugs or plain monotone or color blocked rugs? Where’s the fun in that? Designers like Jonathan Adler and stores like CB2 have been creating fun rugs in response to all those dull dishrags out there. Shine On With Kartell’s Cindy Table Lamp

imageWhat do you get when you combine a table lamp with ’70s retro appeal with a sheen of shimmery metallic finish? The Cindy Lamp from Kartell. I’m not sure if I love these lamps or am repulsed. I am drawn to their teardrop base shape and fun metallic chrome-like finish radiating an iridescent glow. I could see these paired with a minimalist room on an all black matte night stand that would make these babies pop. What do you think of these extremely shiny lamps? imageAlexander Wang seems to favor the undressed/dressed down look, so it was no surprise when a hint of boudoir styling made its way into his recent collections. Christian Dior, never hesitating to push the fashion envelope while maintaining an exceptional level of elegance, presented a more intentional, more seductive lingerie-inspired collection at this past fall’s ready-to-wear shows. And Marc Jacobs took the trend to new levels when he showed satin bralettes worn outside of tops at his most recent Spring show. Fans of these design houses know by now that extreme runway trends like these aren’t always meant for the streets, but can certainly be adapted into looks that are appropriately alluring enough to see the light of day. Instead of letting that lacy slip work overtime with heels and a coat, try the silk pieced dress from Banana Republic’s Monogram collection. LnA’s garter leggings, though not for the faint of heart, are ideal for those who want to play peek-a-boo without getting caught (though we make no guarantees.) The idea here is to temper the racy statement piece with casual additions, like a bustier-inspired top with a chunky cardigan or a slip dress with rugged flat boots. Shoe Of The Week: Tod’s Olli Ti Lacceto Flats

imageDespite seeing them everywhere you step (on the street and on the likes of Taylor Swift and Emma Watson, just to call out a couple), you may still not be convinced that the whole menswear-inspired shoe trend is really suited for your girlie-girl style. Even when paired with patterned tights or a floral dress, sometimes loafers and oxfords still simply exude a “butler” or “businessman” vibe, no matter what department they’re populating nowadays. However, I’m thoroughly convinced that these Tod’s flats will have you seeing them in a whole new light. This particular pair is not blatantly menswear in appearance — the signature laces have been transformed into an ultra-feminine bow detail and the wingtip pattern is replaced with a contrasting trim that echoes inspiration taken from their masculine counterpart instead of replicating it. And with your perfectly pedicured toes peeking from the peeptoe, there will be no mistaking your shoes for boyish brogues. Now if only we could find a similar pair that a girlie-girl on a budget can appreciate!
