Cheap Date: 10 Valentine’s Day Jewelry Picks Under $50!

imageDid you know that Valentine’s Day is less than 3 weeks away? Whether you’ve got dinner plans with a special someone or plan of going out with all your girlfriends dancing to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” it’s paramount that you look your best. Many of us are also still financially recovering from the holidays so if you’re like me, anything affordable yet chic is definitely a plus. That’s why I’ve been on the hunt for reasonably-priced jewelry that would work with any Valentine’s Day outfit. Think hearts, bows, romance and vintage-inspired pieces. You can always count on Betsey Johnson for a great selection. The Linear Bow Earrings are great for the most romantic day of the year but you can also wear them later with your leather jackets for a bit of feminine flair. If you’re looking for something a bit quirkier, I had a laugh over the sweet nothing heart necklaces from Fred Flare. My pick would be “potato chip!” For more Valentine’s Day jewelry that won’t break the bank, take a look at my slideshow!

Got V-Day Plans But Nothing To Wear? Check Out Our 10 Favorite Date-Ready Dresses!

imageWhile most Valentine’s Day cynics are more likely to be down in the dumps about their lack of romance, sometimes having a date in the bag is just as stressful! In fact, we singletons have it pretty good if you think about it — a Valentine’s Day boycott with your recently dumped gal-pals complete with Sex & The City on DVD doesn’t require the perfect going-out outfit! So if you do have plans for Hallmark’s biggest holiday but your current wardrobe just isn’t cutting it, I’ve put together a slideshow of February-festive dresses, for everything from a casual first date to the movies to a full-fledged night of painting the town red (do people still do that?). Okay, so you might not get pinched if you don’t dress according to this holiday’s color theme (at least I don’t think you will), but it’s still fun as long as you play it down and don’t turn yourself into a human valentine. Browse the slideshow for a collection of Cupid-approved dresses, perfect for your romantic night out!

Give Back Fashionably Like Christina Aguilera With The “Love For Haiti” Scarf!

imageYou’ve texted your donations to the Haiti relief fund (hey, every little bit helps!), retweeted dozens of messages to spread the word, called in to numerous telethons, etc. So unless you’re ready to ship off your next paycheck to the cause (if you are — awesome!), it can be frustrating to feel hopeless once you’ve already donated what you feel financially comfortable with. But good news — there is something else you can do to give back: SHOP! The Tucker Paisley “Love For Haiti” scarf gives 10% of its proceeds to the American Red Cross for Haiti relief, and has already been ordered by the likes of Christina Aguilera and Lacey Chabert. Not only is it totally cute — lightweight and perfect for spring — but it also makes for a great Valentine’s Day gift for anyone who’s also looking for new ways to give back. Visit the Tucker Paisley site to order!

Get Blake Lively’s Sophisticated, Demure Look

imageBlake Lively definitely has her wardrobe personality down pat… she’s the “sexy” girl. She likes to show off her smokin’ bod in tight designer mini dresses with slits up to here and necklines down to there. But when she stepped out for the CHANEL Fete d’Hiver Gala she showed a different, more covered up side, and looked stunning as ever. She paired a high neck, gathered black dress with a large obi belt and a silver broach necklace. Get the look with a similar dress like the Zero + Maria Cornejo Noori dress, with a draped cowl neckline and cap sleeved shoulders. Blake’s jewelry was a mix of minimal and statement; she wore just one large necklace. To mimic her large silver flower try the broach necklace from Banana Republic. Echo the same flower detail with some black patent pumps with a ruffled rosette detail and a sleek little silver clutch. Get Blake’s pretty make-up look with some classic black liner and shimmery nude lipstick. Check out the slideshow to shop it all!

A Salute To Desert Boots

imageDo you ever think you’ve discovered an up and coming trend, only to then see it everywhere? That’s what I’ve been encountering with desert boots! Desert boots can be seen as 2010’s answer to the 2009’s oxfords. The menswear-inspired boot adds a rugged look to any outfit. You might be familiar with the original Clarks desert boot, designed in 1949 by Nathan Clark. The simple, durable boots were worn by British Army soldiers in Egypt during World War II, and gained popularity with the mods of the 1960s . Today, desert books are worn by the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, and lend a laid back look to outfits. Wear them with jeans or a flirty dress when the weather heats up for an unexpectedly sophisticated touch. Typically found in neutral shades of khaki, brown, and taupe, one of my favorite picks is the Bronx women’s “Double Take” desert boot, which comes in bright red and sky blue! Bag Of The Week: B. Makowksy Tie-Dye Leather Shopper

imageI knew the second I opened the latest Nordstrom catalog that I was in some serious trouble. It was like a colorful page-after-page party dedicated to the premature welcome back to spring. Bright teal-framed sunglasses, lightweight scarves in every saturated shade of the rainbow… and a tie-dyed leather bag?! Since I already bought the first two on that list (my wallet is crying), I had to give a shout-out to this B. Makowsky Leather Ball Shopper that I just can’t allow myself to buy. There’s something about it that’s just so reminiscent of the perfect weather day (or maybe I’m just nostalgic of my own tie-dying experience in summer camp), plus the cool-toned pastel pattern looks nowhere like the sloppy creations we used to make in buckets on our backyard lawn. And I can personally vouch that the leather really is “butter soft” — I won’t deny that I’ve loitered in the handbag department just to cradle it lovingly. Someone buy it so I can enjoy it vicariously!

10 Red Carpet-Ready Vintage Dresses

imageHollywood’s Award Season has officially begun and while umbrellas were the most popular accessory at this year’s Golden Globes, it takes more than a little rain to stop the glitz and glamour. Of course, only a few celebrities dared to wear vintage at the Globes–most notably Julia Roberts in vintage YSL and Penelope Cruz in vintage Armani–but a vintage fashionista can hold out hope that we’ll see more smashing vintage evening wear strutting down red carpets in the week’s ahead. Of course, donning a vintage evening gown doesn’t guarantee that you’ll end up on a best-dressed list—you still need a discerning eye!—but reaching back to the early era of Hollywood glamour can certainly give you a fashion edge. Just take a look at this little collection of vintage evening gowns that are Red Carpet-ready! Click the slideshow to see the selection.
