Tom Binns in Wonderland!

imageWhenever I see Tom Binns’ jewelry it makes me insanely happy. Known for mixing the classic and punky, his much copied work is the perfect blend of chaos and elegance. It made him an excellent choice to join the likes of Stella McCartney in creating a jewelry collection with Disney for Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland”. The entire line takes inspiration from the much-anticipated movie, and each iconic character served as a framework for the jewelry. From a necklace made of what looks like broken tea cups to heart earrings and a bib necklace fit for a queen; the line is whimsical and dark just like movie. For those willing to shell out a pretty penny, Tom Binns is creating six high fashion pieces for Disney Signature that will retail from $1,000 to $2,000. A more affordable collection, Tom Binns for Disney Couture will retail from $100- $500. Look for them now before they’re gone, and go see the movie March 5th.

Video Style Steal: Rihanna Busts Out Some Jamaican Flavor & Bold Prints For “Rude Boy”

imageRihanna isn’t a newcomer when it comes to pushing the envelope on the fashion scene, but while she has undoubtedly become a style icon over the years, she’s also pretty much the only person who could plausibly pull off those crazy outfits. I mean, she’s nearly always fierce, especially in her videos, but imagine what would happen if you tried matching her piece for piece — from the cockatoo-inspired bouffant of her current ‘do all the way down to her platforms that are always about 1/4-inch away from screaming “lady of the night.” If what you’re picturing looks ridiculously cool, then by all means, work it! However, when looking for inspiration from her latest video for “Rude Boy,” I’ll opt to tone it down just a smidge, with peep-toe lace-ups in place of those OTK Louboutin combat boots and a tiered ruffle dress instead of hers made from recycled vinyl records! Watch the video to see her wild island-inspired costumes, then check out the slideshow for some pieces that are appropriately Rihanna-esque!

Hot In The Hive: Alexandra Cassaniti Face It Sunglasses

imageHere at the Stylehive office, we absolutely love our trendy sunglasses. That’s why when we came across these ‘Face It’ sunglasses by Alexandra Cassaniti, we just had to share them with you. The classic tortoise pattern on the frame is given a uber-hip and edgy side with the reflective ‘X’s shining at you across the dark lenses. The overall effect hovers somewhere between somewhat terrifying and strangely cool in an animated way. Plus, while they get points for uniqueness. I thought the whole point of glasses, sun or not, is to aid the vision and one has to wonder how much the mirrored ‘X’s restrict sight. One thing for sure, though, is that these are some seriously stylish sunglasses!

Price: $80.00

Look For Less: Forever 21 Mesh Pearl Strand Necklace

imageThis mesh pearl strand necklace from Forever 21 is the perfect accessory for the stylish young woman that still remembers when the Material Girl was a lace tutu-wearing pop sensation, yet works just as perfectly for the trendy teen that refers to Madonna as “that buff singer that, like, invented yoga, right?” The pearls and mesh flower give the necklace a feminine feel, while the ruffled, intertwining mesh give it texture and edge. Worn over a cotton tee and cardi with a pencil skirt, it’s just right for a lunch meeting, or would look totally cool layered over long tanks and tattered leggings for a “rich girl gone bad” vibe. It doesn’t matter how many outfits you pair it with, though, because nothing beats the amazing price and the uncanny (but not copycat) resemblance it bears to one of Lanvin’s ultra-coveted, ultra-pricey mesh and pearl confections!

Price: $10.80

Bag Of The Week: Brahmin ‘Pasha’ Crossbody Bag

imageFlipping through the latest issue of Vogue, I counted not one, not two, but three mentions of Brahmin handbags– and that was before page 400. Seriously, pick up the March issue if you want toned arms. It’s that big. Anyway, the ‘Pasha’ crossbody bag caught my eye and I typed it into Google, fully prepared to find a four-digit price tag staring back at me – after all, sueded, croco-embossed leather and Vogue placement don’t come cheaply. Instead, I was met with a reasonable $395, meaning I can put it on my realistic spring wishlist instead the overpopulated one I like to call “Keep Dreaming Or Win The Lottery.” Sweet!

Get A Naturally Gorgeous Spring Glow With These Face Luminizers

imageEven if you’ve already gotten a head-start on counting down to Spring Break, it is only the first week of March, and your dreams of a summer tan are still officially a little premature. While you can easily resort to self-tanners and bronzers to achieve the deepened skintone that the sun can’t give you yet (it’s the safer way to go, anyway), it’s still a little early for the full-on sun-kissed look. As an alternative, face luminizers are the ideal product for transitioning from winter-dry to spring-fresh skin, and are perfect for the color-shy girls who haven’t yet mastered the feat of making bronzer look totally natural. Instead of deepening color, luminizers work with your own skintone to add subtle shimmer or light-reflecting radiance to emphasize cheekbones and give you that pretty spring dewiness in a way that doesn’t appear oily or shiny. They still give you the contour and glowing appearance of bronzer without the fear of piled-on color. Plus, since they’re mostly sheer, application doesn’t have to be perfect — in fact, many are designed to be rubbed in with your fingers for a more natural look. Take a look at the slideshow for a selection of products that’ll help you achieve the perfect springtime glow!

Hot In The Hive: Mark Pretty Wild Lip Gloss

imageWhen you have a lipgloss collection as impressive (see: ridiculous) as mine is, at some point you have to stop compulsively buying everything shiny and pretty and start forcing yourself to be a little pickier. Nowadays, instead of snatching anything new off the shelves in the beauty aisle, I stop for a minute to ask myself some vital questions. Is this lipgloss really more sparkly than a diamond? Will I actually magically transform into Adriana Lima upon application? Does this tube have the coolest packaging I’ve seen in a long time? In the case of this Mark Pretty Wild Lip Gloss, that last answer was an emphatic “OMG yes!” Okay so maybe it’s not the coolest, but the leopard print tube is ridiculously cute, so of course it’ll end up getting loads of use since I’ll constantly want to take it out of my purse and brandish it around in front of my friends. And it’s mint flavored, so it’s totally practical — I’ll save money on mints and gum. Sold!

Bright Blazers For Spring

imageI don’t know why it took so long for blazers to become ultra trendy, whether boyfriend-style and casual or tailored and fitted for a night out, but since I’ve become so attached, I’m not ready to let go just yet. Luckily, with springy updates like jersey instead of wool blends, magenta and sky blue in place of charcoal, and cropped lengths or looser fits, blazers are still very “in” for the months ahead, just with the necessary adjustments to make them appropriate for the upcoming season. I’m really into cobalt lately, and the shade is perfect if you’re looking for a color that’s practical yet still refreshing for transitioning from winter to spring. Or, if you’re not afraid of a whole lot of color, opt for an in-your-face vintage limeade blazer — just make sure it fits impeccably so it doesn’t look like you’re drowning in a bowl of Jell-O. I’m sure even more variety is bound to spring up before the season officially hits, but if you’re dying to start your colorful collection ahead of time, check out the slideshow for some of my favorite bright blazers!
