From afar, this delectable treat may look like a giant donut, but cut into it and you’ll see that it’s a cake! The non-stick cake pan set comes with two molds you can customize with your favorite cake flavors (try a ha;f/half combo with chocolate and vanilla). Let the cakes cool, put them together with your favorite filling and then add toppings like a fudge frosting with sprinkles or a lemon creme glaze. It’s sure to be a hit at your next party!

Recession Chic: Sigma Makeup Brushes

imageAsk a beauty neophyte or serious makeup maven to name a high end makeup company and MAC Cosmetics would definitely be on the list. The staple brand for any makeup artist is also super accessible and fairly budget friendly for people like us. So when I went to the local counter to take a peek at their makeup brushes to round out my collection, I wasn’t prepared for the sticker shock! Luckily, I found a comparable new company called Sigma Makeup. Sigma carries a line of handmade professional quality brushes and a fraction of what MAC charges. If you check out the Professional Brushes Complete Kit, the 12 brushes included are essentials in any makeup bag and only cost $69. If you buy the same brushes from MAC, it would cost a whopping $333 (aka a new pair of shoes!). As a devout follower of being recession chic, $69 is still a lot of money, but believe me, quality brushes can totally change the way you apply your makeup. I can’t imagine doing my makeup without using their soft powder brush or eyeshadow blending brush. They also carry some brushes individually including a super cute line of Hollywood themed kabuki brushes as well a small collection of makeup. All I can say is, watch out MAC!

Blazers Are For Spring Too!

imageBlazers have become the new outfit-commodity. They’re the easiest way to rock the edgy boyfriend style. Throw one over a mini, short-shorts, skinny jeans or leggings, and your look’s complete — and not to mention chill free! But a chill is all you need to prevent in this blossoming weather. A blazer for spring shouldn’t carry winter’s bulk — it should be a lighter-weight fabric, could be slinkier cut (cropped or shorter-sleeved), maybe an open-up, and perhaps even lighter-colored to be spring season-appropriate. As commonplace as they are on store racks, wearing a blazer still makes you different enough to stand out. downloadable Dirty Dozen Cheat Sheet makes that split-second decision on whether to spend that extra 20 cents a pound on organic bananas or organic strawberries a little easier.

Hot In The Hive: Navy Roll n’ Go Keyboard

imageI would be the first to tell you that a job in fashion is super fun and rewarding. I mean, you can’t beat discovering up and coming designers, going to cool events, and getting a sneak peek at cool products not even in stores yet! It almost makes me embarrassed that I get paid to do all this. Almost. On the flip side, it’s not all glamour. I have the habit of lugging around my laptop everywhere to blog at a moment’s notice and I know all the cafes with free wi-fi by heart. Sometimes there are days where both my laptop and iPhone are dead and I desperately need to send off an email (RSVPing to every invitation is the polite thing to do, you know) and there’s a crusty computer at the cafe. Bag Of The Week: Alexander Wang Cher Large Siamese Clutch

imageI’ve got major respect for Cher. No, not the matchy-matchy character from the movie Clueless, but the iconic performer! Can you believe the chart topping singer, Academy award winning actress and style chameleon is 63 years old? She’s still got it going on and I can see why young designers like Alexander Wang are still inspired by her style. The Cher Large Siamese Clutch is an oversized leather clutch with a double personality. The front features a mirrored leather panel that’s oh-so-Cher set at an angle to a suede pouch. The mirrored panel has a magnetic clasp while the suede pouch has a zippered opening so you can store double the lipstick, breath mints and credit cards. If you’re out karaoking to “I Got You Babe” or dancing to “If I Could Turn Back Time,” I’m sure this clutch will find its way to your nighttime repertoire.
