imageSleek & Chic

It’s two things that woman are always striving to be. A sleek look is at once streamlined and flattering, while having an edgy vibe that exudes sensuality and power. Being sleek and chic can range from a casual look to an embellished one and allows you to use your ensemble as a canvas to express yourself. So with the help of Gilt Groupe and others, looking sleek and chic all the time, anywhere can be easy …

Decades Two.1

Hollywood hand-me-downs now available online from the designer consignment experts at Decades
decades1.jpg

Sourcing from some of the most phenomenal wardrobes around the world, L.A.-based designer consignment shop Decadestwo takes their tightly-edited collection of luxury threads online with Decadestwo.1—making it easier than ever to find a distinct look on a budget.

The user-friendly site allows for easy navigation through the collection, with categories spanning styles of clothing, as well as helpful guides such as “Editors Favorites,” “Future Collectibes” and “Under $300.” The site’s blog is updated daily with stories about the newest consignment, constructive advice such as how to spot a fake Chanel bag, the latest fashion news and a weekly column from editor-in-the-know Billy Garcia.

While they keep their consignors confidential with a Bond agent-style number, each week Decadestwo.1 features one of their favorite contributor’s closets, revealing just a little information about the woman behind the wardrobe. Often though, the consignors don’t mind sharing their identity (Rachel Zoe is #143 Decades founder Christos Garkinos tells us) and the site will share those stories about what makes their closet so special in full.

With all of the brands you covet right at your fingertips, Decadestwo.1 is an inspiring site to scour (read: slightly dangerous addiction). In celebration of their online launch, Decadestwo.1 is offering CH readers 20% off of all purchases until 19 October 2010, simply by using the code DEC20. For those in NYC, check out the Decadestwo.1 pop-up shop at Kiki de Montparnasse from 14-17 October 2010. (Sunday includes their $150 shoe sale.)

The SHG – Pattern Behaviours

imagePlaids, prints and other patterns ranging from classic and conservative to colorful and quirky are showing up on all types of garments and in numerous store windows. Not only that, but it’s no longer a fashion faux-pas to mix and match patterns that originally would’ve seemed mis-matched or over-the-top. Now florals and polka dots are the best of friends, while plaids have been seen in many a collaboration with stripes and other prints.

But while it seems like anything goes, it’s still possible to step over that fine line of stylish into garish. Limit yourself to three colors for a bright and whimsical vibe and not like you’re on your way to a kid’s birthday party as Bozo’s assistant. And also avoid pairing prints that are too similar, like plaid and houndstooth, so that you’re fashion statement is more obvious and not looking like you raided your grandmothers closet.

Get The Winning Look From Our ‘Lighten Up’ Celeb Poll!

imageWe’ve been loving the new lighter denim trend and so have some of our fave celebs! Last week, we asked you all to weigh on and let us know which celeb you think rocked the new lighter denim trend the best.

Whitney Port, reality star and fashion designer, looked sophisticated but youthful with her cropped tweed jacket and estate-inspired statement pieces balanced out with cuffed boyfriend jeans and a casual up-do. Studded platform heels added a rocker edge.

But it was truly a battle of the songstresses with Jessica Simpson and Rihanna pulling in an equal percentage of votes with 40% each and making this the first celeb poll tie! Both singers opted for a skinny leg cut, but Jessica kept her look classic and preppy with a cropped military blazer and an oversized bag in a versatile dark taupe. Dark-blue suede booties subtly added a trendy vibe to her ensemble, while keeping the look classic.

Fashion forward Rihanna chose a super light wash of denim and let the vibrant hue of her fitted sweater speak for itself. Classic black pumps and understated jewelry makes this an eye-catching, but refreshingly clean and simple look for the usually over-the-top star.

While some of us may not have had to experience wearing school uniforms, the preppy school look stays appealing year after year, generation after generation. Mostly because it’s conservative stylings stay as an ‘appropriate’ staple, collared shirts, pleated skirts, and cardigans, as well as blazers and other neatly structured pieces are in fashion for all seasons. Plus, just a few detail changes and this clean-cut look translates well into our adult years! Check out HauteLook and others because they know exactly what we mean!

Street Style – Faux-cus On Fur!

imageFaux fur sprouted up last fall and winter season and is back with a vengeance for this year, too! With runway shows and store-front windows showcasing a wide array of couture and RTW faux-fur options, it’s hard not to want to get in on this fuzzy trend. A quality faux-fur looks and feels glamorous and stylish, but without the guilt of eliciting harm towards poor woodland creatures. While every fashion magazine and site out there is telling you hurry up and don this latest trend with the likes of a large vest or cozy coat, some of us may not be ready to try on this ‘brown-bear’ inspired look just yet.

No worries because faux-fur is available in other ways as well, like a warm and luxurious stole, or as a unique and fashion forward handbag. A shrug or stole is the perfect way fend off the chill without looking like you’re ready for hibernation, and other accessories give just the right touch of on-trend style.

Want to incorporate just a little of this faux-fur look into your wardrobe? Click on our slideshow to see our fave picks of faux-fur stoles and accessories!

Shoe of the Week – Etienne Aigner ‘Vivica’ Slingback

imageThe 1950s bring us back to days when ladylike looks of long full circle skirts and fitted cardigans were what really turned men on! Coiffed hair and cinched waists made the lady. Women dressed ‘smartly’ in the Fifties when a more conservative and lady like look was sexy way back when …

And while we here at Stylehive love our sky high stilettos as much as any fashion follower, we thought we’d give a nod to days gone by with these ‘Vivica’ Sling-backs by Etienne Aigner. These coy kitten heels feature a playful white polka dot print on a neutral taupe background with a big bow accent right at the peep toe. With a 2 and a half inch heel and comfy rubber soles, these sweet feminine shoes are as practical and ‘smart’ as the days that inspired them! Go retro!
