Dressing In Nude From Head To Toe

There is nothing more chic than dressing in one tone from head to toe. It used to be all black, but spring’s new fresh trend is head to toe nude. Soft neutrals dominated the runways in the spring shows. Chloe and Stella McCartney’s shows were both an ode to pale flesh tones, Donna Karan gave us warm nudes that evoke suntans and sandy beaches, even the man of darkness Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy showed beige clothing and buttery pale leather accessories. Wear the look head to toe with a sexy Jay Godfrey fringe dress and a pair of nude booties; top it all off with an ivory or nude sweater. But if you’re feeling more adventurous beat the evening chill with the leather jacket in a non-traditional nude. Madison Marcus’ ‘Anthem’ jacket would finish of the look perfectly or look great over a black outfit for just a touch of nude. Pale accessories are also a great way to dabble in the trend; nude or beige shoes give your legs that long endless look. A light handbag is a nice alternative and just as versatile as black or brown. Go a little or go all the way, but whatever you do, make sure you have a few nude pieces in your spring wardrobe. Click the slideshow to see everything you need to go nude for spring.

Hot In The Hive: Anti-Theft Lunch Bags

If you’ve ever had to deal with a communal fridge at work, at school, or even with rude roommates, a lunch or two has probably vanished before you got to eat it. I’ve had an instance where I made delicious spaghetti and meatballs for lunch only to have an unscrupulous person eat it all and then put the empty container back into the fridge! While the Anti-Theft Lunch Bags may not have worked with my spaghetti, it’ll certainly be handy anytime I bring a sandwich. The lunch bags are regular zip-top lunch bags with totally unappetizing green splotches on both sides of the bag. Lunch stealers have been thwarted! Now those thieves will just have to get their own lunches. (If your lunch goes missing after being placed in one of these bags, we don’t know what to tell you other than.. eww.)

Price: $10

Use CUTE Bags And Clean Up The Earth! (Get It?)

Disclaimer: I do in fact own one of those reusable shopping totes, no matter how often I forget to actually bring it with me to the market…

Every once in awhile I’ll stop into the natural foods market in my neighborhood. Two things always happen on these trips, without fail. First thing- I end up leaving with odd items like a box of instant oatmeal with some strange man’s head printed on the box, or a self-tie bag of some grain I told myself I’d try from the bulk section (because isn’t that what you’re supposed to do in “natural food” stores?) Second thing- the man at the register scowls as he hands me my bag of random, possibly unnecessary groceries. My PAPER bag. Whoops.

The first time this happened (the scowl, not the random grocery-buying), I was taken aback. I just bought $10 almond butter, the guy could at least crack a smile. However, the next time I went, I happened to be carrying a canvas gym tote, and mentioned to the man (same one) that I could just carry my groceries in it. Him? Same scowl on my way out. Where was the nod, the one that says “Ah! You’re doing your part!”? Did he somehow know my bag wasn’t organic? Hmph. Off I went.

There’s no real moral to this story, but there’s probably some truth to the fact that you’re more likely to carry a canvas tote (or remember one, in my case) that you actually like. If it happens to be CUTE, even better! The cute (clean up the earth) bags are crafted from organic cotton and embellished with Swarovski crystals. Part of the proceeds from cute bags go to groups like the Natural Resources Defense Council and Global Green USA. So the next time the Mean Organic Grocer Dude/Chick scowls, at least you can know you’re way more CUTE than he or she is anyway. But please, do it for the Earth! Buy your cute bags here!

Seeing Spots: Men Can Wear Polka Dots Too!

In general, men have always been wary of prints and polka dots aren’t exactly on the top of every man’s wishlist. Personally, I am all for polka dots. They have this child-like wonder to them, but you need to be wary when it comes to donning the dots. There is no gray area when it comes to apparel with polka dots. You have to either be really subdued or go all out. If you go for the former, you need to go big or go home- like the Marc by Marc Jacobs t-shirt. For me, I like to keep my dots very understated via my accessories. A pocket square from JoS A. Bank adds a bit of whimsy to a suit, while a Band of Outsiders skinny tie gives some urban dandyism. But whatever you choose, know when to say when. Don’t dress in dots from head to toe- you don’t want to look like a giant polka dot vomited all over you. Check out the slideshow for polka dots that won’t send you to clown school.

Video Style Steal: Go GaGa Over Ladylike Interpretations Of Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face”

Whether or not you’re a fan of her futuristic, robot-like, pantsless persona, you can’t deny that Lady GaGa is an interesting character (after all, anyone who can make Perez stop talking about the Octo-Mom for a few posts has to be at least somewhat intriguing). With electro-pop hits like “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” and any of the other sound-alike tracks off her debut album The Fame, GaGa has gained a rapidly-growing following. While I certainly don’t question the appeal of her catchy beats (although I’m still trying to figure out what on Earth a “disco stick” is), I’m thoroughly convinced that her talked-all-over-town popularity is due largely in part to her bizarre outfit choices and overall “Donatella Versace in outer space” gimmick. And while we at Stylehive would never promote public indecency by encouraging you to go without pants in public, you may be surprised to see just how inspirational some of Lady GaGa’s futuristic fashion choices really are, as long as you don’t attempt a literal translation of her shiny black catsuits and hooded capes. From practical patent leather booties to a chunky cocktail ring and a simple pair of liquid leggings, you can channel the artist’s funky style (one bold piece at a time!) and still stop traffic without looking like a spaceship! Click “See Video” to watch her provocatively funky “Poker Face” vid, then check out the slideshow to see some wearable translations of her eccentric ensembles!

Vintage Fashionistas Are Seeing Spots

Some of the most recognizable polka dot outfits haven’t adorned statuesque models on fashion runways but rather a very famous two-dimensional celebrity: Miss Minerva Mouse–you know her better as Minnie. This beloved Walt Disney character often sported polka dots on her frocks and well, she got her man didn’t she? Of course, I’m not suggesting that we should start taking our fashion cues from cartoon characters, but we shouldn’t discount the power of the polka dot either. They’re a sure-fire way to stand out among this season’s sea of strong graphic prints and well, they’re just good ol’ fashioned fun! And yes, this dotted pattern was named after the polka dance, but it’s perfectly acceptable to wear the fashionable spots even if you have two left feet. Just click the slideshow and pick your favorite from this collection of vintage polka dot finds.

Hot In The Hive: Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss

Remember those corny ball-point pens with the little water-encased figurine or message that would scroll across when you tipped it upside down? Well our quirky friends at Urban Decay just took that idea and ran with it in a much more interesting, PG-13 direction with their appropriately named Pocket Rockets! Each flattering shade of hydrating gloss boasts a tiny well-dressed fellow (front and rear views, ladies) who, with the tilt of the tube, strips down to his undies for your viewing pleasure! And with 8 different hunks to choose from (or shades — whichever you decide is the bigger priority in making your purchase), from emo James to power-hungry CEO David, any single lady is bound to find their type of man (or a few of them!) whose skivvies they wouldn’t mind seeing slide off! To make things even more enjoyable, the tube itself is packed with pheromones… you know, just in case you’re on the look-out for a life-size version of your new pocket boyfriend!
