Keep Your Cosmetics Collection In Order With A Makeup Organizer Case!

imageI’ll admit it — I’m a major beauty junkie. And I don’t only mean that I own a lot of cosmetics, know every product that Sephora carries (or has ever carried), and that I love to compulsively buy tons and tons of makeup, as if it’s an addiction, and hardly actually use any of it regularly. I actually literally have it piled all over the place in my room, bathroom, purse, and tote bags… like piles of junk. If you’re anything like me and the inside linings of almost all of your bags are tarnished by a glittery residue mess from one too many screw-tops left askew, it’s time to invest in a makeup organizer or train case. Face it — we beauty mavens have a lot of makeup, most of which has probably cost us a pretty penny (and it definitely has collectively!), so it’s important to keep it all in good condition for maximum use and minimum mess until it’s time to chuck that empty tube, jar, or pot in the trash! Whether you need a nice big compartmental case for storage (gotta love Caboodle!), or a cute compact tote for easy travel, there’s a shape, size, and function to suit any kind of beauty-sorting need! With all of your beauty goods so neat and organized, you might find yourself surprised at what a great variety you have and maybe even be inspired to try some new tricks, not to mention save some money by not re-buying things you totally forgot you already have! Check out the slideshow for some convenient cases — if your collection is as big as mine, you might even need more than one!

Stars Celebrate Matthew Williamson’s Second H&M Collection Launch

imageLast week, the stars aligned at New York’s South Street Seaport to celebrate the launch of Matthew Williamson’s second collection for H&M, the first of which debuted in stores only a week before. Performances by Grace Jones and music by DJ Michel Gaubert and DJ Hanna Hanra provided entertainment while hosts and hostesses dresses as sailors added a beachy, tropical vibe to the soiree. Mary-Kate Olsen, Helena Christensen, and Lucy Liu came out to admire the collection, which is set to arrive in stores on May 14. Williamson himself had this to say: “Working with H&M has been such a wonderful experience. The global launch event in New York City was a spectacular soiree. I was delighted to see so many of my friends from the fashion world support this collection.” The collection will feature colorful prints and sophisticated tailoring, in addition to a men’s line which will be Williamson’s first. Hot In The Hive: Crayon Rings

imageSome of my fondest childhood memories involves opening up a brand new package of crayons and attempting to color inside the lines of my dinosaur coloring book. The days of using coloring books may be long gone, but who says we can’t still use crayons? Boston-based Converse “idea” designer Timothy Liles certainly keeps busy outside of his day job! He recently created crayons shaped into rings that come in eight basic colors. The playful rings have a pointed tip at the top of the ring in a traditional diamond-like shape which you can use to draw finer lines. Why choose between form and function when you can have both? The rings only come in size 7, so if your fingers can’t fit them, I’d string them into a necklace. Don’t worry, any marks you make will be washable!

Topsiders: Comfy And Cute!

imageI used to be one of those people who didn’t do comfortable footwear. I pretty much still am, with the exception of a few pairs. But after spending way too much money on intensive healing pedicures and way too much time in the foot care aisle (can you say… ew?), I surrendered to my comfort-loving feet. Kind of. Here’s the thing: there are plenty of comfortable, stylish shoes out there. But are they affordable? Not really. And a lot of them try so hard to be both stylish and comfortable at once that they ultimately end up looking ridiculous. So when it comes to comfort, I’ve realized classic simplicity is best. One of the most popular casual footwear are Topsiders, with Sperry leading the pack. These preppy, summery shoes are as great out on the boat with shorts and a hoodie as they are with your favorite floral sundress. Give your feet a break this summer- you have all winter to suffer in gorgeous heels! Click over to Shop Therapy for more on these carefree kicks.

Denim To Die For From Tripp NYC

imageDenim is like blood– you need it to survive. One of my ultimate favorite denim jean brands, Tripp NYC, has just released their summer collection, now available at Karmaloop.com. Conceived on the streets of the East Village in the early 80s, Daang Goodman, founder and designer of the label, has drawn inspiration from underground rock n’ roll scene, fusing it with downtown NYC street style. Tripp NYC has stayed true to its rock n’ roll roots, dressing today’s top musicians and artists. The brand is looked to for emerging trends on the pages of Vogue, Interview and Nylon. Tripp NYC produces the hottest colors and cuts for all their denim jeans, featuring rip, stud, zipper and splatter details. My most coveted pairs are The Tear Me Down Ripped Jean, web-exclusive to Karmaloop.com, and The In Distress Black Splattered Ripped Jean, a grunge flashback to the early 90s, seen on Agyness Deyn. Also check out my other top picks: The Spilt Personality Jeans, The Stud Jeans and The Double Zip Jeans in Turquoise.

Perfect Presents For New And Soon-To-Be Moms!

imageWith a bun in the oven, an expecting mom, exhausted with eating, breathing and living for two also has to dress for two! Someone expecting, whether they’ve been a mother before or not, should definitely be on your list this Mother’s Day! Clothing options for a beloved pregnant pal may be a touchy subject, given the fact that she may no longer fit into her favorite pair of jeans — and she’s probably dreading having to dress in time-old maternity clothes that more resemble the looks of hospital-gown smocks and potato sacks. Give the gift of style with some of the latest trends in maternity clothes, many of which fit right in with standard women’s wear styles already! If you think maternity clothes shopping is slim-pickings, think again: there are options galore — even designer!

Hot In The Hive: Ballistic Rose From Citizen

imageThere has always been something so alluring about paradoxical situations and the juxtapositions in life. What symbolizes beauty and romance better than a rose? Tobias Wong creates the Ballistic Rose out of a single piece of Ballistic Nylon, material used for military purposes. The black, rough material is so different from the fragrant, velvety feel of a real rose, but then, that’s the appeal. This Ballistic Rose is in full bloom and lends commentary to the current somber issues in our world today. The Ballistic Rose by Tobias Wong is meant to remind us of the fragility and volatility of our world, but also of the beauty that can still be found in it. Made of a material usually reserved for those that protect, Wong is showing us how simple it is to manipulate our sense of security. The Ballistic Rose is a fascinating and elegant way to accessorize and have your voice be heard. Originally a wry art piece for the New York MoMA, the Ballistic Rose corsage can now be yours. It comes in a replica of a shotgun cartridge box, adding even more tongue-in-cheek appeal to this multi-use, avant-garde accessory. Check out www.citizen-citizen.com for more interesting and innovative ideas!

Savvy Gifts For Savvy Moms!

imageI love my mother and I love her style, but she is surprisingly hard to shop for and with Mother’s Day fast approaching, I’m looking to send her something besides the same flowers as the previous year, or a last-minute card. I could always give her cash, which she loves, but of course I want something a little more personalized and memorable. The thing is, my mom is still a stylish and hip woman who, although loves anything I get her, will not really like wearing a “World’s #1 Mom” sweatshirt. I’m looking for something chic and fashionable and something that she’ll want to use and not just store away after May 10th. This Mother’s Day, check out these featured items and see her eyes light up with true surprise and let her be the envy of all the other mothers at brunch! Anything from Swarovski studded earphones for her gym time, crocodile leather checkbook cover to patent leather, stylish diaper bags for the new mom, you’re sure to find something different for your mother that she’ll be happy to use every day of the year!

Jewelry for You, Inspired By Your Diamond Dog

imageIt was only a matter of time… fine jewelry inspired by pets such as dachshunds, pit bulls, poodles, chihuahuas, and labs (with German Shepherds, terriers, retrievers and schnauzers soon to come). Made from 18k matte yellow and white gold, and encrusted with hand-cut onyx, sapphires, and conflict-free micro-pave diamonds, the new collection from Diamond Dog New York also includes paws, hearts, and bones. Created by Suzanne Mates, a longtime recording studio exec who changed careers after getting her dog and realizing “a pet can change the world,” a portion of the net profits is donated to no-kill shelters, making any of the rings, earrings, or charms perfect for fun-loving accessory hounds.
