Hot In The Hive: Vazu Foldable Vases

imageThe forever-old custom of giving flowers as gifts would be a whole lot easier if you didn’t have to worry about the glass vase not surviving the car ride over to the housewarming party you’re attending. Vases usually aren’t cheap, they break too easily, and they take up lots of precious storage room when you’re too busy to keep them full of fresh-picked flowers. Apparently the masterminds behind the Vazu Foldable Vase had the same frustrations regarding flower-giving. The Vazu vase comes flat in its package and expands to form a sturdy, free-standing vase that you can fill with water and put on display with your flower arrangement. When you’re finished, it re-folds easily back into its package for simple storage, and at only $4.99, you can afford to give it as part of a gift — no broken glass and no lending out your grandma’s old vase with the chance you’ll never get it back! It even comes in a ton of colorful patterns that can coordinate with any bouquet arrangement. Check out the selection at the Vazu site!

Price: $4.99 each

CollegeCandy Wishlist: Denim, Or Sweats?

imageWhen it comes to many things in life, including fashion, I’m a fan of odd, quirky things that leave people asking questions. No, I’m not going to start wearing fairy wings like one of the girls on What Not To Wear, but I did pick up a pair of pants last week that totally fit the bill. They were a pair of skinny denim-like pants by Fragile that I scored at T.J. Maxx for $17, but normally retail for $29 (sweet!) at Hot Topic, a store I haven’t stepped into since my friend’s goth days in high school. Anyway, the pants look like jeans, but function somewhat like sweatpants in that you basically pull them on and button the single button at the top. I would say that they are comparable to denim leggings, although I prefer these Fragile pants since they look more like jeans and aren’t as skintight. These pants are definitely the answer to every college girl’s fashion dilemma: chic sweatpants? That you can wear to class? And not look sloppy? I think it’s time we all made a run to Hot Topic! Head over to CollegeCandy for more wishlist-worthy wardrobe staples!

Get That Edgy, Rocker-Inspired Look With Chain Accents!

imageTo chain or not to chain? These days, it’s not even a question! I used to picture a black, quilted Chanel bag with braided chain straps whenever I would hear about chains in fashion. Chanel chain straps are still feminine, but hint upon notes of edginess. With the influx of sexy-goth vampires and emo-rocker fashions, however, chains are now popping up everywhere from hair pieces to fancy footwear and all things in between! It’s not so much the single large strand like a Dookie Chain ala RunDMC or the early b-boy days, but rather multiple, skinny links of varying widths and lengths that are adorning clothes and accessories and popping up on every other photoshoot. Smaller, more delicate chains are all the rage right now and look great dangling from boots and pumps and really step up the air of danger in an outfit when placed on what would be basic tops or bottoms. Wear them on as many pieces as you’d like, or have it be the detail on just one. Sexy, edgy looks are in so check out the slideshow for some awesome chained pieces!

Hot in the Hive: Homo Sapiens Caveman Kitchen Tool

imageI like to cook. “Like” as in I watch Food Network and enjoy flipping through cookbooks (but only the ones with pictures) and am particularly inspired to whip things up when there is chocolate involved, or perhaps a dough I can repeatedly test (for quality control- I’m very thorough). Michael Pollan would disagree and say that what I actually like is food and not the process by which it is prepared. He would not be wrong. His recent cover story for The New York Times Magazine not only points out cooking’s transformation from obligation to fascination, but also the idea that cooking actually helped our ancestors evolve and develop a culture rather than merely grunting, gnawing, and chewing all the live long day. And so, in the spirit of getting back to those simpler times, I am seriously pondering this caveman kitchen tool from ThinkGeek. It grinds, grates, mashes, flattens, and even sharpens your knives, and the best part is that it’s not the least bit daunting, so you don’t have to worry about your tools being more sophisticated than you are. The other best part is that you can make noises like “oog” and “grog” as you pound your way to your next meal!

Price: $39.99

Personalize Your iPhone With A Unique Case

imageI just got an awesome 3G “S” iPhone — and I’m betting a lot of iPhone fans out there are with me on this one, not to mention the huge amounts of people who jumped on the bandwagon earlier. I’m in cell phone bliss, the only problem is that I’m afraid the iPhone is fairly fragile. My other phone was kind of a piece, but I had it for two and a half years (an eternity in phone years!) and it was relatively bomb proof. I can’t tell you how many times I dropped it and yet it survived. But I know that one tumble is all it would take to knock me out of my bliss! So I need a durable and good looking iPhone case that will help prevent this, since I’m pretty clumsy. Fortunately, there are plenty of good looking and unique 3G iPhone case options out there. Which is another pre-requisite for me! Some of these cases and skins are colorful and will add more personality to your phone.

March On With Our Top 5 Favorite Marching Band Jackets!

imageWhat do Jimi Hendrix, Christophe Decarnin of Balmain and Sienna Miller all have in common? They all love marching band style jackets! Beyonce and Rihanna have been spotted in the amazing (and very pricey) Balmain version and Sienna looked retro-cool in her Temperley London version. Finding an authentic vintage band jacket is hard to do, and sometimes the fit is less than flattering. Good thing designers have been turning out more modern and contemporary versions! Go subtle with some slight button or double-breasted detail, or go all out with some major gold trim and adornments. If you want to be truly authentic, check out Nasty Gal for a few great vintage styles. Check out the slideshow for our 5 favorite jackets that will keep you marching all fall long!
