Hot In The Hive: Ninja Star Coat Hooks

imageDoes your prissy Hello Kitty-adorned apartment need a little roughing up? If so, I’ve got the best thing to make your pad a whole lot more bad-ass: Ninja Star Coat Hooks. Made of super-strong nickel-plated alloy, the star is shaped to easily install into your wall and look as if you’ve survived a sneaky ninja attack right in your own home. See? Bad-ass. In fact, you’re so bad-ass that after you survived said attack and dispelled the ninja from your pad, you decided to make a mockery out of his misfired weapons and hang your coats from them! True, most of your guests will probably assume they’re just fun little decorations that you bought online (’cause you did) and ask where you got them, but they’ll secretly be afraid to mess with you from now on, just in case.

Price: $12.99 each

Are Baggy, Footless Tights In Your Fashion Future?

imageI’m all for most hosiery trends, whether it be two-toned, crazy-patterned, or studded leg wear. And I’ve never been an opponent of “tights as pants,” as long as it’s done tastefully. But I have to admit that I don’t know what to make of Wolford’s Voile leggings/footless tights. Isn’t hosiery supposed to be fitted, not baggy? I have to say that these look like the cheap stockings sold at drugstores and bodegas, which are barely adequate when you’re in a bind and create a very unsexy-looking leg. These leggings, however, aren’t inexpensive, and retail for about $62. They not only look weird (and not in a good eccentric way) and cost too much, but are also impractical. I can’t think of any way to rock these that wouldn’t make the wearer look short and malnourished. Well, I guess if you’re trying to look thinner, these might do the trick, but would you really want to risk having your style license revoked? I didn’t think so. Head over to TheFrisky for more!

Add A Light Layer To Your Summer Look With A Draped Vest

imageSometimes all those layers can get a little stuffy… especially during summer. But you don’t have to skip out on that draped and layered look when you’ve got a vest to hang on your shoulders. Add a hip piece that won’t keep you sweltering with a long vest that wraps your shoulders like a scarf. Paired with summer staples like shorts and tank tops, it’s a cute and comfortable alternative to your fitted button-up vests, but the look of a sleeveless cardigan sweater makes this vest a more casual layer. Some drape over like a curtain, lending a richer and more delicate style. These accessories will prove even more valuable on a chilly night, as well as into the fall season when you actually will need something to shelter your shoulders. Check out the long vests in this slideshow and treat your trendy self to an edgy, layered look!

Piperlime.com Launches New Apparel Shop Today!

imageI’ve been a huge fan of Piperlime.com since it launched in 2006. It’s become my go-to place online for shoes and handbags. With over 200 brands, they carry everything from the inexpensive to high-end and tons of options in between. Well, I guess domination of online shoes stores wasn’t enough! Starting today they will be adding about 65 more brands to their roster with their new apparel section. That’s right, they’re now a one-stop shop carrying everything from denim and tops to the shoes and bags they already carry. They’ll be stocking up on all your basics from brands like 7 for all Mankind, Joe’s Jeans, Cynthia Vincent, Paul & Joe Sister, as well as lesser known, up-and-coming brands like Riller & Fount and Kain. Happy shopping!

Fall Trend Alert: Leather Jewelry!

imageThe upcoming fall fashion season will be heavy with rich textures and colors. Metallics, tweeds, and leather in all its forms–including jewelry. Jewelry? Leather accessories are mother’s milk for the style-conscious (thinking about how much leather I personally own between shoes, purses, and jackets alone likely places me in PETA’s crosshairs). Leather jewelry, however, is a niche in accessories that’s not often thought of much. Mostly, I think, because people tend to envision Bondage or Dude Ranch homages whenever you hear “leather choker” (er, not that there’s anything wrong with that!). However, there’s a lot of gorgeous leather tooling in jewelry going on at the moment, particularly within Nicole Richie’s House of Harlow 1960 line, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite accessories brands. I like what leather jewelry does for an outfit: it takes a fabric typically reserved for hard use and turns it into something delicate, not to mention the dimension of texture it immediately adds to any look. Added bonus: price points that are normally reasonable and within reach. Take a look at selections from Oscar de la Renta, Alberta Ferretti, and Anthropologie, among others, in my slideshow!

Hot In The Hive: Reminder Rug

imageIf I had a dollar for every time I’ve waltzed out of the house in the morning without my keys, wallet, or phone (or a tragic combination of all of the above), I’d probably have enough money to simply buy a replacement of whatever I forgot at home on the way out. Unfortunately, since there is no Forgetfulness Fairy to reward my flighty morning-rush behavior, I could use a little helpful reminder to make sure I have all my necessities before I dash out the door. Luckily, Urban Outfitters knows what’s up and came up with the brilliant Reminder Rug, designed to help start your mental checklist. It’s the perfect doormat (with nice, big lettering so your eyes can’t skip over it as you step), and even if you’ve never forgotten a thing in your life, it’s still pretty cute as a cheeky addition to your apartment decor!

Price: $18

Get Your Hands On Jessica Alba’s Feathered Headband!

imageJessica Alba knows a thing or two about being glamorous on the red carpet. But this past year she has been discovering a whole new type of style — “mommy chic.” One thing that all new moms learn pretty quickly is that having hair in your face while trying to run after your kids is no fun. Jessica is a huge fan of headbands, yet her picks are anything but basic and ordinary. Everything from feathers to ribbons have adorned her pulled-back hairline. Running errands around Los Angeles with her adorable daughter Honor, she sported a cute Stella Accessories feathered headband that added just a touch of whimsy to her jeans-and-tank style. To get the look, mom or not, you can get the Madison headband by Stella Accessories which retails for $42.

Tote A Messenger Bag As Your Chic Fall Carry-All

imageEach year, usually right before fall, I get a hankering for a new handbag, regardless of how recently I purchased my last one. They’re just so fun to build outfits around and I hate to hinder my creativity, you know? Right now I’m all about messenger bags– I’m picturing one crafted out of buttery leather, maybe a tad distressed for that vintage look, and preferably in a neutral hue- chocolate brown, khaki, even dove grey would be lovely. The style is undeniably classic and yet alluring at the same time, and the brand is nowhere to be seen (with the exception of a small amount of indicative hardware, in some cases). Larger ones add a seriously urban element to business ensembles, while smaller types lend effortless appeal to androgynous and feminine styles alike. My personal favorite way to wear one of these schoolboy-esque satchels? Strapped across the body, over none other than a flouncy party dress. Vintage Fashionistas Pay Tribute To The Queen Of Swimwear

imageRose Marie Reid was the Queen of Swimwear in the 1950s, ruling an empire that produced 10,000 suits a day and posted sales of $14 million by 1958! Women loved her knack for hiding figure flaws and it was Rose Marie Reid who pioneered the use of tummy control panels, wire bra cups and the boning and adjustable straps that we enjoy in modern swimwear today. Plus she was a woman who stood by her convictions. Because she was Mormon, she refused to design immodest bathing suits. So while her company did ultimately create bikinis, Rose Marie Reid refused to participate in their design. For vintage fashionistas, an early authentic Rose Marie Reid swimsuit is a coveted find. Click the slideshow to see a fab little selection of her designs!
